The aim of the study is to develop a method for storing images of sulfur imprints. In the framework of the study, a more effective method of representing images of sulfur imprints by using knowledge of the specificity of these images was developed compared to universal methods. In particular, a method for storing images of sulfur imprints has been developed, which stores information about objects that are significant for technological analysis in the image. The developed method was tested for images of sulfur imprints of continuously cast billets for the conditions of a large metallurgical enterprise in Russia. To conduct a computational experiment, a software product was designed and developed that allows you to convert the image of a sulfur imprint into a mathematical representation, as well as the process of restoring the main image. Using the array of retrospective information of 2011-2018 and the developed software product, the calculation of the effectiveness of the presentation of graphic information in the form of a structural unit of information without directly saving the image was performed. The average share of stored information from the original volume is 0.53 percent © 2020 IEEE.

Evaluating student performance is important for universities and institutions in the current student education landscape because it helps them create models that work better for students. The automation of various features related to fundamental student traits and behaviours that manage massive amounts of data efficiently processes these. To handle student records that included information about students' behaviour and how it related to their academic performance, the companies employed models of classification with mining concepts. Additionally, the quality of result classification can be substantially improved by using learning analytics and Educational Data Mining (EDM). The educational establishments are making an effort to lower the low student performance. To address this issue, numerous methods for assessing student performance have been devised, allowing the relevant faculties to intervene and enhance the final product. Three classes—Low Performance Student, Average Student, and Smart Student—were created using the K-Mean Clustering methodology for classifying student records. Features including grade point, number of deficits, student attendance, medium of education, and board of education are taken into account when classifying the data. In this case, the WEKA tool is also utilized for implementing the model and outcome assessments.

In recent years, with the continuous growth of social and economic level, people's living standard has also been constantly improved. Under this background, contemporary people highly respect a good living environment, and the importance of building interior decoration engineering has been fully reflected. As one of the important design contents of interior decoration, the use level and effect of color will directly affect the overall visual effect of interior decoration and the comfort of interior space. Through the rational collocation of colors, the artistic characteristics of interior decoration can be displayed, which can also show the important role of color in interior decoration. In modern interior decoration, the use of colors is gradually enriched, and the use of multiple colors leads to the problem of actual color matching. Image segmentation, which is the premise of image recognition and tracking, divides an image into regions with different characteristics and extracts interesting objects. This technology has been widely used in military affairs, medicine, intelligent transportation, pedestrian detection, product inspection, sports, remote sensing, machine vision and other fields. Therefore, good color matching is very important in the actual interior decoration practice.

An analysis of the signaling systems used in the Intelligent Communication Network has been carried out. The main probabilistic characteristics of signal information delay are determined. A method for calculating these characteristics for such error correction methods is proposed: basic error control method and preventive cyclical control method. The analysis of the delay of signal units from loading the signal network is carried out. Simple formulas are proposed for approximating the load applied to the signaling link. © 2022 IEEE.

Development of a visual programming tool called SmrAI for function testing to mitigate the shortage of programming personnel in the manufacturing

We have developed a visual programming tool called SmrAI for function testing, and investigated whether wrapping existing source code with Scratch Blocks is an effective means of mitigating the shortage of programming personnel in the manufacturing. SmrAI is based on Smalruby, which can convert Scratch Blocks into Ruby code. In addition, SmrAI introduces two new sets of Blocks that wrap existing Ruby libraries for function testing. Since existing tools and libraries were utilized, the cost of developing SmrAI was low, and there were no changes in the function testing procedure. We conducted a verification test using staff members who were familiar with the function testing process but had little or no programming experience, and confirmed that they were able to program using SmrAI and that they had confidence in its business applications. These results are expected to contribute to the diversification and increase of programming personnel responsible for function test programming. © 2022 Japan Society for Software Science and Technology. Context: When developing software, it is vitally important to keep the level of technical debt down since it is well established from several studies that technical debt can, e.g., lower the development productivity, decrease the developers' morale, and compromise the overall quality of the software. However, even if researchers and practitioners working in today's software development industry are quite familiar with the concept of technical debt and its related negative consequences, there has been no empirical research focusing specifically on how software managers actively communicate and manage the need to keep the level of technical debt as low as possible. Objective: This study aims to understand how software companies give incentives to manage Technical Debt. This is done by exploring how companies encourage and reward practitioners for actively keeping the level of technical debt down and whether the companies use any forcing or penalizing initiatives when managing technical debt. Method: In a first step, this paper reports the results of both an online survey provided quantitative data from 258 participants and interviews with 32 software practitioners. In a second step, this study set out to specifically provide a detailed assessment of additional and in-depth analysis of Technical Debt management strategies based on an encouraging mindset and attitude from both managers and technical roles to understand how, when and by whom such strategy is adopted in practice. Results: Our findings show that having a Technical Debt management strategy (specially based on encouragement) can significantly impact the amount of Technical Debt in the software. Conclusion: The result indicates that there is considerable unfulfilled potential to influence how software practitioners can further limit and reduce Technical Debt by adopting a strategy based explicitly on an encouraging mindset from managers where they also specifically dedicate time and resources for Technical De

For several years, traffic congestion has been a major problem in big cities where the number of cars and different means of transportation has been increasing significantly. The problem of congestion is becoming more and more critical, and if not treated smartly this issue will negatively affect drivers by wasting time and fuel gas while waiting for hours in lanes. This paper presents a new and smart way to mitigate this issue in an affordable cost, minimum processing power, and low power consumption. This concept takes into consideration the majority of the cases that may cause congestion and presents a smart and accurate outputs to ease traffic flow leading to the prediction of the peak hours of traffic congestion for smarter control. A model is designed to study the case of a four lanes crossroad with two traffic lights and two LCD monitors. The strategy in reading data is divided into two parts: real data from sensors and pre collected data from google maps to create a kind of a predicted pattern over a certain time interval. The responsiveness of the system is analyzed thoroughly, and the accuracy of all possible cases is carefully considered and evaluated. Each part of the system was tested alone, and the overall system is still in an ongoing testing phase. The results have shown minimum faulty errors and accepted outputs that can lead to safe traffic control decisions. Finally, integrating more IoT devices and sensors between V2V, V2P, V2I with the help of artificial intelligence will definitely optimize this system with higher accuracy.

Visually impaired people encounter several challenges in their mobility and navigation. Their daily activities are obstructed due to their inability to adapt or recognize accurately their surroundings, especially outside their house which they are more familiar with. Thus, it becomes the main reason of accidents, falling off, getting lost in unknown areas, etc. Furthermore, one of the sensory systems that helps the body to process data about the external environment is the visual system. Blind people also lose touch with the outside world, develops poor motor habits, which results in postural problems as a result. This project will assist visually impaired people in their daily life and simplify normal tasks through a system combining two previously designed projects, “Smart Shoes for Blind and Visually Impaired People”, and “Human posture monitoring device”. The multifunctional system is developed with the goal of securing safe movements for visually impaired people as well as maintaining a good back posture by detecting leaning postures (LP). The purpose of the smart shoe is to identify obstacles and protect the user from unintended accidents. A compatible Android application has been developed to alert the user when there is an obstruction or when he is walking on a wet surface. Voice alarms will be used to acoustically alert the user. If the user collapses, a message with their position will be sent right away to a relative. On the other hand, the smart vest will identify the position of the user's back and alert him to maintain a straight posture through the same application as well. As the system is dealing with human health, some safety measurements would be taken into consideration to implement a safe electrical system in order to reduce error and to increase accuracy.

Emergent Atomic Environments in Twisted Bilayer Graphene and Their Use in the Prediction of the Vibrational Properties

While Bernal stacked bilayer graphene bears two distinct atom types in its lattice, there exists no analytical framework addressing the number of atomic environments that emerge in twisted bilayer graphene superlattices. Here, we computationally analyze 140 different twisted bilayer superlattices using descriptor functions to study the emergent local environments. Our study reveals that the number of atoms with unique local environments depend on the superlattice size linearly manifesting itself on two distinct lines in accordance with the respective space groups. We then introduce the use of local environments in the investigation of vibrational properties. Local phonon density of states of the atoms with unique local environments are calculated by molecular dynamics simulations and are used to train a machine learning model. This model is used to predict the phonon density of states of twisted bilayer structures. Performance of the trained model is cross validated and discussed thoroughly via different selection of training and test sets. It is shown that the model proves effective in predicting the vibrational properties of any given twisted bilayer structure. Since the generic method presented reaches far beyond twisted bilayer graphene the possible applications ranging from non-periodic structures to strain induced moiré superlattices are also discussed. The covid-19 pandemic and Economic Policy Uncertainty resulting from the shutdown of production, withdrawal of investments, enforcement of lockdowns and quarantines globally, have been directly affecting stock markets worldwide. This study is thus an attempt to analyse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stock market behaviour in major affected economies. Moreover, the time frame was extended by using current data which investigate the impact of the virus during the boom and the blast phase in the country's most hit by the pandemic crisis such as China, Italy, UK and US. The frequency of the data is daily, and it dates from 3 January 2020 up to 10 February 2021. The considered time framework will give a deep insight into how stock markets behave in the case of an exogenous shock. The Dickey-Fuller Augmented Unit Root Test indicates that all the variables are stationary at first difference, which is one of the main conditions to have robust result, and the ARCH-LM test for the heteroskedasticity of the residuals, which show that all the probability values are significant, rejecting the null hypothesis of no ARCH effect. Based on the results of GARCH (1,1), we conclude that the change in stock markets volatility is positive and significant in China, Italy, UK and USA. This suggests that the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak and economic policy uncertainty on Stock Markets are a significant and Homogeneous across the studied countries, and the shock on FTSE Italia All Share has the longest time to vanish which makes it the riskiest to invest during this period, while the shock on SP500 USA has the shortest time to disappear meaning that it is safest Stock Market in this study. These findings have significant implications for policymakers, institutional and individual investors and Financial Markets analysts. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.
