In supervisory control of discrete-event systems, prescribing formal specifications is a non-trivial task that depends on the intuition and cognitive understanding of the designer. A human designer has no assurance if a prescribed specification is as intended, making it necessary to manually validate the specification, i.e., check whether the specification does indeed prescribe the intended requirement. This uncertainty in specification is compounded in the case of timed discrete-event systems (TDES's), where real-timing behavior also needs to be correctly specified. The fundamental control theory for TDES's requires a specification to be formalized as a timed transition graph (TTG), prescribing a timed regulation of logical behavior that restricts a TDES to some timed execution sequences. To help validate the specification, human designers need an algorithm that cam automatically remodel the TTG specification, to highlight sequences essential for comprehending the specification's timed restrictions while hiding irrelevant information. By 'hiding' in self-loops the associated events of all transitions deemed irrelevant to the specification, we can obtain a more comprehensible TTG, formalized by what we call a transparent TTG specification. In this paper, we propose a polynomial-time algorithm to compute TTG specifications of clear transparency.

Due to recent advances in mobile wireless communication and computing technologies, Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) have become the network of choice for use in various applications. But this advantage comes with serious security concerns, in particular from a wireless transmission medium perspective where such networks may be subject to data tampering and dropping attacks. This paper enhances a recently proposed AODV-based protocol named Highly Secured Approach against Attacks on MANETs (HSAM) that deals with this issue in at least two ways: (a) by performing for the first time a simulation study of the HSAM protocol; (b) by introducing a more efficient approach to securing the routes in the route selection phase of the HSAM scheme. Simulation results are provided, showing that the proposed enhanced HSAM scheme (so-called E-HSAM) outperforms HSAM in terms of packet delivery ratio, throughput rate, and number of broken links; chosen as performance metrics, when malicious nodes are present in the network.

A localization scheme for wireless sensor networks is proposed and its performances are investigated in this paper. The proposed scheme is an anchor-free scheme, in which no geometrical information of sensor nodes is required for their localization. Thus, only local interaction among sensor nodes is used to estimate their locations. This scheme employs the link quality indicator and hop count between sensor nodes for location estimation. A weighted averaging and Kalman filtering schemes are incorporated in order to reduce the effects of the measurement errors in the obtained values of the link quality indicator. We performed experiments by implementing the proposed scheme on ZigBee sensor modules. The results of our experiments indicate that estimation could be successfully performed for networks comprising four sensor nodes.

Constraint solving is a fundamental tenet of most test case generation strategies. However, conventional constraint solving methods were not designed in consideration of that aspect of test case generation. It has led to a situation where test case generation techniques can miss test cases when constraints contain function invocations. This is due to the fact that, when solving constraints to generate test cases, function invocations are not effectively handled and, as a result, solutions to some constraints are not found even though they do exist. This problem occurs in both specification-based and code-based testing. To address the problem, this paper presents a function substitution method that transforms test case constraints that contain certain types of functions into equivalent constraints that do not contain those functions. The transformation preserves the solution space and avoids missed test cases. As a result, the completeness of test case generation can be improved.

In this paper, the H_2 optimal state-feedback control problem is investigated for discrete-time Markov jump systems subject to periodic coefficients and multiplicative noise. First of all, an exhaustive analysis is pursued to set up an H_2 performance criterion (H_2 norm), which can be characterized by the periodic solutions of two generalized Lyapunov equations. Based on the obtained H_2 norm, the H_2 optimal state-feedback controller is designed in terms of the stabilizing solution of a discrete-time generalized Riccati equation with periodic coefficients. Moreover, this stabilizing solution can be computed efficiently by the available iterative algorithm.

This paper proposes a robust control scheme that prevents an autonomous 4WS4WD vehicle from lane departure and wheel skidding in presence of road curvature and aerodynamic drag. The control objectives can be specified as various closed-loop specifications, such as lane keeping, wheel slip constraint and disturbance attenuation. An LMI approach is used to deal with these objectives simultaneously, which combines the quadratic stabilization technique with constraints on inputs. Simulation results show that the proposed controller effectively limits the combined wheel slip and improves the lane keeping performance.

This paper is devoted to the modeling problem of hypersonic vehicle with significant couplings. An integrated approach is developed to analytically model the dynamics of hypersonic vehicle, in which the effects of variable mass, spherical rotating earth, and couplings among the sub-models are considered. Furthermore, a preliminary analysis is conducted using the general data of a hypersonic vehicle. The simulation results show that the maximum of the Coriolis force can reach values up to 7.02% of the vehicle weight, and that the thermal load determined by the nonuniform aerodynamic heating and the properties of the structure has a significant influence on the elastic deformation.

Currently, Diabetes is a very common disease around the world, and with an increase in sedentary lifestyles, obesity and an aging population the number of people with Diabetes worldwide will increase by more than 50%. In this context, the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Teehnology) developed the SANA platform, which brings the benefits of information technology to the field of heaIthcare. It offers healthcare delivery in remote areas, improves patient access to medical specialists for faster, higher quality, and more cost effective diagnosis and intervention. For these reasons, we developed a system for diagnosis of Diabetes using the SANA platform, ealled S2DIA. It is the first step towards knowing the risks for type 2 Diabetes, and it will be evaluated, especially, in remote/poor areas of Brazil.

The paper introduces the design of the super monitoring system of the reaction kettle, the serial communication between the super computer and the multichannel distributional lower computer, as well as the design of monitoring surface which has been realized using VB. The system has the powerful data-handling capacity and the image display ability, and may carry on the control through the data transfer to the lower computer. The system has achieved the real-time monitor of the production process of the reaction kettle conveniently. © 2011 IEEE.
