The sensor network features characteristics such as nodes being densely distributed, large quantities of nodes being scattered around, necessity of frequently changing the network topology as well as utilizing broadcasting system for communication. It also reflects a wireless network environment where batteries and computing powers are limited that it would be difficult to even make a decision on whether surrounding nodes are in credible conditions. Not only the numbers of nodes through which sensor nodes communicate exceed one, but additional research on password key control is required. It would be used on mutual authentication between nodes as well as authentication and enciphering by using limited sensor resources within the sensor network, which is based on the mesh structure. This paper makes statements on encryption algorithm, key management, security protocol, authentication and essential security elements of secure routing. It will be acting as basis of developing security mechanism, which will provide confidentiality of the MAC class level, authentication and integrity on a sensor network environment referred as the nano-Qplus platform.

A dynamic moving network with unspecified multiple mobile routers or dynamic mobile routers may causes difficult problems in terms of stability and reliability in the moving networks. We assume that a user terminal such as cellular phone can be a mobile router in a dynamic moving network. The selection and maintenance of mobile routers should be very important issue like in this scenario in order to support reliable communication channels to internal nodes. In the selection of representative mobile routers, the staying time of a mobile router should be one of essential factors, e.g. battery power and network capacity. It, however, is not easy to estimate the staying time of each mobile router and candidate to be selected. We propose the staying time prediction algorithm of a dynamic mobile router according to the variable status of dynamic moving network. In this approach, the proposed algorithm is based on gathered statistical data as a probabilistic approach in order to estimate the staying time of a mobile router. Finally simulation results will show the accuracy of the probability.

Benchmark suite scores are typically calculated by averaging the performance of each individual workload. The scores are inherently affected by the distribution of workloads. Given the applications of a benchmark suite are typically contributed by many consortium members, workload redundancy becomes inevitable. Especially, the merger of the benchmarks can significantly increase artificial redundancy. Redundancy in the workloads of a benchmark suite renders the benchmark scores biased, making the score of a suite susceptible to malicious tweaks. The current standard workaround method to alleviating the redundancy issue is to weigh each individual workload during the final score calculation. Unfortunately, such a weight-based score adjustment can significantly undermine the credibility of the objectiveness of benchmark scores. In this paper, we propose a set of benchmark suite score calculation methods called the hierarchical means that incorporate cluster analysis to amortize the negative effect of workload redundancy. These methods not only improve the accuracy and robustness of the score, but also improve the objectiveness over the weight-based approach. In addition, they can also be used to analyze the inherent redundancy and cluster characteristics in a quantitative manner for evaluating a new benchmark suite. In our case study, the hierarchical geometric mean was applied to a hypothetical Java benchmark suite, which attempts to model the upcoming release of the new SPECjvm benchmark suite. In addition, we also show that benchmark suite clustering heavily depends on how the workloads are characterized.

Dynamic mobile network is a kind of moving network which has multiple independent wireless personal area networks interconnecting with MANET networking. Since a mobile device like a cellular phone can work as a mobile router for a dynamic mobile network, there are some fault problems related with traffic overload, reliability and energy consumption. And the essential issue of highly dynamic mobile network is fault tolerant mechanism. In this paper, we propose fast path redirection mechanism and candidate GMR election mechanism in order to enhance fault tolerance. As a result, our approaches support more reliable and seamless connectivity to all the nodes in mobile networks. Finally simulation results show the performance and efficiency of the mechanisms in terms of energy consumption and packet loss.

In this paper, we propose a new adaptive CSMA/CA algorithm (NACA) that aims to reduce redundant transmission of IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN. In wireless sensor networks (WSN), energy consumption is one of the most important issues. Furthermore, it makes the network life-time longer by reducing retransmission. To achieve this goal, we improve the carrier sensing features in MAC layer of IEEE 802.15.4. When the network is busy, the MAC detects it and adaptively chooses the parameters of CSMA/CA mechanism to minimize collisions and redundancy of retransmission packet based on the NACA. We evaluated the proposed scheme with original 802.15.4 MAC on the ns-2 simulator. The results show that our scheme outperforms the original by about 15% in case of retransmission.

In wireless sensor networks, micro sensor nodes dispersed in real environmental field have a constraint energy capacity, so energy-efficient mechanism for wireless communication on each sensor node is so crucial. Specially, the jobs sending and processing sensing data information from on sensor node to the others are more majority parts than merely sensing some events. Thus, energy-efficient routing protocol in wireless sensor networks is necessary for increasing the network lifetime and is also influenced by many challenging factors in terms of energy, processing, and storage capacities. In this paper, we designed and implemented a reliable energy aware routing (REAR) protocol for wireless sensor networks and evaluated the performance of REAR by comparing with existing routing protocols. REAR considers residual energy capacity of each sensor node in establishing routing paths and supports multi-path routing protocol for reliable data transmission. Furthermore, REAR allows each sensor node to confirm success of data transmission to other sensor nodes by supporting the DATA-ACK oriented packet transmission. Finally, the performance evaluation results show that REAR provides energy-efficiency and reliability related to wireless communication in wireless sensor networks.

In this research, real-time face tracking and gesture recognizing embedded quadruped robot with a tele-operation server is presented. Using ***21 embedded system, this robot transfers MPEG-4 video to tele-operation server which processes image data for gesture recognition and face detection, and human following. The developed quadruped robot has 3 DOF 4 legs and pan-tilt actuators. This system can recognize user' s face and hand motion and serve various music contents to robot user.

This paper describes the design and implementations of the application service based on embedded Linux; personal voice recorder (PVR) which uses WiBro network for data communications and CDMA network for voice communications. PVR consists of client and server. PVR client send CDMA voice data to PVR server located in the Internet through WiBro network. Then, PVR server converts voice data to wave form and stores it. In case of shortage of storage space on terminal, PVR makes user to store voice data.

This paper describes the design and implementation of software architecture for Linux-based mobile terminals supporting interworking between CDMA and WiBro. The software architecture includes network switching controller which controls the network switching procedure among other modules and multi-option network selection algorithm. The software architecture also includes function which provides network transparency to the higher network layer and mobile IPv4 based mobility function. The implemented software architecture is designed to have expandability in each function and easily applied to the terminal with more than two networks. The procedures and functions of software architecture are verified by interworking with the multimedia application program.

For the upcoming ubiquitous computing environments in the u-health areas involve the measurement of physiological signals in the daily life. However, the measurement of those signals, such as the photoplethysmography (PPG), and the electrocardiogram (ECG), requires being still tight during the measurement in order to get the accurate result preventing noises caused by the casual movement. In this paper, we propose a method to obtain the accurate physiological signals in the situation where the little movement is allowed. By measuring PPG and motion signals at the forehead during in motion, we calibrate the distorted PPG signal with the motion signals. We show that the calibrated PPG signal is accurate enough by comparing with the result that is measured at the finger without any movement.
