Supplier selection is a critical component of Supply Chain Management (SCM), as suppliers provide raw materials or services essential for supporting a company's operations. Traditional supplier selection methods often rely on subjective assessments to determine the weighting of criteria, which can lead to biases and suboptimal decision making. To address this issue, this study combines the Logarithmic Percentage Change of Weight (LOPCOW) method with the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method to enhance objectivity in the supplier selection process. The LOPCOW method is used to assign criterion weights objectively based on logarithmic percentage changes, which helps minimize subjectivity, These weights are then applied using the SAW method to evaluate and rank suppliers. The results of the study show that this combined approach is more reliable for selecting suppliers objectively and accurately. The study suggests integrating other Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods to further strengthen the results while recommending the inclusion of real-time data analytics to improve the model's adaptability to dynamic market conditions. The LOPCOW-SAW approach can be applied across various industries for more effective and efficient SCM supplier selection. © 2024 IEEE.

Microorganisms may cause illness when they enter the body, multiply, and spread to other parts. The rapid spread of COVID-19 to neighboring countries is examined in this research. Anticipating a positive COVID-19 occurrence helps in determining risks and creating countermeasures. As a result, developing robust mathematical models with small error margins for predictions is crucial. Based on these findings, a combined method of evaluating confirmed cases of COVID-19 with universal immunization is recommended. First, the best hyperparameter values of the RBF kernel-based LSSVM (least square support vector machine) were determined using the most recent Evolutionary Mating Algorithm (EMA). After that, LSSVM will complete the task of prediction. This hybrid method has been utilized for time series forecasting in Malaysia since the country's immunization program against COVID-19 got underway. We evaluate our results next to those of well-known methodologies in nature-inspired metaheuristics. © 2023 IEEE.

High-precision cylindrical parts are critical components across various industries including aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing. Since these parts play a pivotal role in the performance and safety of the systems they are integrated into, they are often subject to stringent quality control measures. Defects on the interior and exterior wall surfaces of these cylindrical parts can severely undermine their function, leading to degraded performance, increased wear, and even catastrophic failures in extreme cases. This article aims to comprehensively summarize the task definition, challenges, mainstream methods, public datasets, evaluation metrics, and other aspects of surface defect detection for high-precision cylindrical parts, in order to help researchers quickly grasp this field. Specifically, the background and characteristics of industrial defect detection are first introduced. Owing to the unique geometric features of cylindrical part surfaces, algorithms and equipment for image data acquisition used in surface defect detection are elaborated in detail. This article presents an extensive overview of state-of-the-art surface defect detection techniques designed for high-precision cylindrical components, all rooted in deep learning. The methods are systematically classified into three main categories: fully supervised, unsupervised, and alternative approaches, based on their data labeling strategies. Additionally, the paper conducts a comprehensive analysis within each category, shedding light on their unique strengths, limitations, and practical use cases. Concluding the discussion, the paper provides insights into future development trends and potential research directions in this field that will lead to manufacturing innovation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Imitation learning has emerged as a promising approach for addressing sequential decision-making problems, with the assumption that expert demonstrations are optimal. However, in real-world scenarios, most demonstrations are often imperfect, leading to challenges in the effectiveness of imitation learning. While existing research has focused on optimizing with imperfect demonstrations, the training typically requires a certain proportion of optimal demonstrations to guarantee performance. To tackle these problems, we propose to purify the potential noises in imperfect demonstrations first, and subsequently conduct imitation learning from these purified demonstrations. Motivated by the success of diffusion model, we introduce a two-step purification via diffusion process. In the first step, we apply a forward diffusion process to smooth potential noises in imperfect demonstrations by introducing additional noise. Subsequently, a reverse generative process is utilized to recover the optimal demonstration from the diffused ones. We provide theoretical evidence supporting our approach, demonstrating that the distance between the purified and optimal demonstration can be bounded. Empirical results on MuJoCo and RoboSuite demonstrate the effectiveness of our method from different aspects. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

The subject of research. Analysis of the influence of priority service in multi-channel data transmission systems characterized by limited storage capacity and high load, taking into account the non-stationary characteristics of the intensity of packet arrivals and service time. Method. The functional characteristics of the multi-channel system were calculated and analyzed using simulation methods and mathematical statistics. Main results. A simulation model of a multi-channel system with priority service has been developed, designed to evaluate the functional characteristics of the system under high load. Experiments have been conducted to study the impact of priority service on delays and packet losses of heterogeneous traffic. Practical significance. The results obtained can be used in the design of multi-threaded data transmission systems operating under conditions of high heterogeneous load.

The subject of research. Analysis of the impact of priority data transmission in high-load multi-channel systems represented as a mass service system with request prioritization under different variations in the distribution of random variables of packet arrival intensity in the network and service time in the channels. Method. The study of the influence of priorities on the efficiency of data transmission in multi-channel systems was carried out using simulation and mathematical statistics methods. Main results. The method of numerical calculation of time parameters based on the simulation model of multi-channel data transmission system with heterogeneous load is proposed. Simulation experiments evaluating the impact of priority data transmission at different coefficients of variation of packet intensity and service time in the channels on the time characteristics of the multi-channel system are conducted. Practical significance. The obtained results can be applied to the design of multi-channel computer systems of high load data transmission, providing the optimal use of priorities to improve the efficiency of data transmission.

Feature selection plays a pivotal role in the data preprocessing and model-building pipeline, significantly en-hancing model performance, interpretability, and resource efficiency across diverse domains. In population-based optimization methods, the generation of diverse individuals holds utmost importance for adequately exploring the problem landscape, particularly in highly multi-modal multi-objective optimization problems. Our study reveals that, in line with findings from sev-eral prior research papers, commonly employed crossover and mutation operations lack the capability to generate high-quality diverse individuals and tend to become confined to limited areas around various local optima. This paper introduces an augmen-tation to the diversity of the population in the well-established multi-objective scheme of the genetic algorithm, NSGA-II. This enhancement is achieved through two key components: the genuine initialization method and the substitution of the worst individuals with new randomly generated individuals as a re-initialization approach in each generation. The proposed multi-objective feature selection method undergoes testing on twelve real-world classification problems, with the number of features ranging from 2,400 to nearly 50,000. The results demonstrate that replacing the last front of the population with an equivalent number of new random individuals generated using the genuine initialization method and featuring a limited number of features substantially improves the population's quality and, consequently, enhances the performance of the multi-objective algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

The discovery of Road Traffic Accident (RTA) patterns is vital to formulate mitigation strategies based on the characteristics of RTA. Various studies have applied association rule mining for RTA pattern discovery. However, limited research has conducted a comparative analysis of RTA patterns in different regions. This work is necessary to identify the similarities and differences of RTA characteristics between different regions, especially the developed and developing countries with different RTA trends in fatality rates. This work explored the application of association rule mining (FP-Growth algorithm) to discover and compare the RTA patterns for developed and developing countries. The Orange Data Mining software is used to discover RTA patterns for Ethiopia (12,317 samples) and the UK (United Kingdom) (1,048,575 samples), representing developing and developed countries. Eventually, findings showed similarities and differences in RTA patterns between Ethiopia and the UK. Road characteristics and conditions are the common factors contributing to RTA severity levels, while other crucial factors include the light condition and speed limit. In conclusion, the discovery of RTA patterns in different regions is beneficial to assist in formulating strategies to reduce the risk of RTA. Future work is necessary to discover the RTA patterns from different perspectives, such as seasonal or periodical variations of RTA patterns. © 2023 IEEE.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) holds a record of high incidence and severe global harm. In tasks of liver cancer segmentation based on 3D medical images, the majority of methods have endeavored to enhance the 3D U-net by integrating the latest modules from the field of computer Vision (such as the transformer), often overlooking the distinct characteristics of liver components. We introduced a novel deep learning architecture, Modif-SegUnet, to circumvent this limitation. This architecture extends the U-net model by incorporating a 3D-modifiable attention module, thereby fostering a heightened focus on distinguishing between normal liver sections and lesions. Furthermore, Modif-SegUnet ingeniously amalgamates the 3D-modifiable attention module with the Modif-transformer block, enabling efficient capture of relevant and valuable full-text information in CT images that contain liver or tumor regions. We subjected the proposed Modif-SegUnet to evaluation on the Liver Tumor Segmentation benchmark dataset. Experimental outcomes indicate that our methodology surpasses state-of-the-art approaches in liver tumor segmentation, suggesting potential pathways for advancing the diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer. © 2023 IEEE.

In dynamic meteorological prediction, accurate rainfall forecasting is a mystery. In a complex and dynamic natural environment with unpredictable sky movements, we propose an innovative methodology that forecasts weekly average rainfall patterns using the Gooseneck Barnacle Optimizer and the Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LSSVM). The significance of rainfall prediction is shown by its widespread implications, including public health. However, conventional single-model techniques and machine-learning methods must represent rainfall pattern changes, limiting our preparation. With a 2014-2018 dataset from reliable meteorological libraries, our research explores the possibility of this novel combination. The Gooseneck Barnacle Optimizer (GBO) serves as the bedrock of our methodology, introducing a novel evolutionary algorithm inspired by the intricate mating behaviors of gooseneck barnacles. GBO aptly captures the dynamic interplay of factors such as navigational sperm casting properties, food availability, food attractiveness, wind direction, and intertidal zone wave movement during mating, culminating in two crucial optimization stages: exploration and exploitation. In contrast to previous algorithms like the Barnacle Mating Optimizer (BMO), GBO stands out by more accurately emulating the unique mating behaviors of gooseneck barnacles. The prediction job is performed by integrating the Least Squares Support Vector Machines (LSSVM) algorithm with GBO as an objective function, using the optimized hyper-parameter values. The results suggest that the GBO algorithm exhibits superior performance compared to existing methodologies. This is accomplished by efficiently augmenting the original random population for a particular problem, resulting in a convergence towards the global optimum and producing significantly enhanced optimization outcomes. © 2023 IEEE.
