Engagement in learning is crucial in maintaining student eagerness as fuel for student learning to achieve learning success. In e-Learning settings, engagement also plays an im-portant role as a factor influencing student learning success as students are regulating themselves during learning one-on-one using computer devices. Failing to detect student engagement may result in unsuccessful learning. In extreme cases, students may disengage and learning purpose cannot be achieved. This research aims to detect user engagement in e-Learning settings by using a deep learning approach with a feature extraction method. The dataset used in this study is the DAiSEE dataset. The dataset is in the form of videos and is extracted into frames and specific facial features. The facial area was extracted using the Mediapipe Library. The features include 1434 3D landmark features, 52 action unit features, one depth estimation feature, and three head pose estimation features. This research also conducts image selection, which selecting frames with an interval of 15 in the train, validation, and test folders. The multi-stacked Convolutional Neural Network model was used to classify four levels of engagements. The results were compared to the existing approach in engagement detection. The untuned proposed model achieved an accuracy of 48.95%, while the tuned proposed model achieved an accuracy of 52.94%. The proposed model is able to compete with state-of-the-art methods using a less complex model. Even so, the model still cannot learn labels perfectly due to a very imbalanced dataset and a possibility of model overfitting. This research is expected to be useful for educational institutions and the e-Learning field in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

The proliferation of behind-the-meter (BTM) distributed energy resources (DER) within the electrical distribution network presents significant supply and demand flexibilities, but also introduces operational challenges such as voltage spikes and reverse power flows. In response, this paper proposes a network-aware dynamic pricing framework tailored for energy-sharing coalitions that aggregate small, but ubiquitous, BTM DER downstream of a distribution system operator's (DSO) revenue meter that adopts a generic net energy metering (NEM) tariff. By formulating a Stackelberg game between the energy-sharing market leader and its prosumers, we show that the dynamic pricing policy induces the prosumers toward a network-safe operation and decentrally maximizes the energysharing social welfare. The dynamic pricing mechanism involves a combination of a locational ex-ante dynamic price and an ex-post allocation, both of which are functions of the energy sharing's BTM DER. The ex-post allocation is proportionate to the price differential between the DSO NEM price and the energy-sharing locational price. Simulation results using real DER data and the IEEE 13-bus test systems illustrate the dynamic nature of network-aware pricing at each bus, and its impact on voltage. © 2024 IEEE.

Kidney disease (KD) is a gradually increasing global health concern. It is a chronic illness linked to higher rates of morbidity and mortality, a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and numerous other illnesses, and expensive medical expenses. The machine learning (ML) models are applied for KD prediction with higher accuracy and precision. The KD dataset has uncertainty and vague information, so, we used the neutrosophic set (NS) to deal with vague and uncertainty information in the KD dataset. The KD dataset is converted into the N-KD dataset with three membership functions: truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. Three ML models are used in this study such as logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor (KNN). These ML models are applied to the N-KD dataset. The results show the LR has higher accuracy and precision on the N-KD dataset than the original KD dataset. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology is essential in converting printed or handwritten documents into machine-readable text. This paper provides an overview of machine learning based OCR technology, including its history, principles, and applications. The paper discusses the challenges and limitations of machine learning based OCR and presents various OCR models based on different feature extraction and classification methods. Specifically, it covers feature extraction methods such as Euclidean distance, HOG, Fourier descriptor, and directional chain code, which are used to improve the accuracy of classification models such as CNN, KNN, ANN, and SVM. The paper also discusses recent advancements in OCR for different languages and how OCR can be integrated with machine learning and AI to understand ancient scripts and convert them to modern languages. The paper concludes with a discussion on the future of multi-lingual OCR and integration with AI and machine learning models, which have the potential to revolutionize the field of OCR. In summary, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of OCR technology, its advancements in various languages and potential for future development. © 2023 IEEE.

With the rapid development of technology, the use of social media by the public, especially among young people, is increasing. One of the social media platforms currently used by young people is the TikTok application. It is a video-based TikTok feature accompanied by music, writing, and pictures that are considered attractive, so teenagers like it to show their existence and self-disclosure. Therefore, this study aims to examine the intention of users to disclose their privacy. As the basis of the theory, this study deployed the privacy calculus theory, where the perceived benefits and perceived risks play crucial roles in the intention to disclose their privacy. The study successfully collected 369 responses. The empirical findings indicated that only the relationship between Perceived Personalization (PP) and Perceived Risk (PR) was not supported. However, all the remaining hypotheses were supported. These findings emphasize how several complicated variables influence social media users' intentions to disclose their privacy. When people feel in control of their privacy settings and see significant benefits, they are more likely to divulge personal information;nevertheless, perceived risks can greatly discourage users. © 2024 IEEE.

At high velocity flight, the infrared imaging system encounters significant aero-optical disturbances due to the uneven gas flow around the aircraft's forward section and the elevated temperatures of the optical dome. In the simulation study of aero-optical effects, hydrodynamic calculations of the gas flow field and optical dome are required. This paper examines the utilization of the solid-fluid coupling approach in simulating aero-optical phenomena from the perspective of fluid dynamics computations. This paper undertakes the geometric modelling of the airflow environment and optical dome of a blunt-nose front-window flight vehicle. Utilizing ICEM, the mesh generation for both the gaseous flow domain and the solid optical dome is executed. Subsequently, Fluent software facilitates the performance of hydrodynamic simulations, concurrently extracting vital parameters from both the flow field and the optical dome. The method in this paper can be used in the calculation and analysis of aero-optical effects of high-speed flight vehicles. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents a pilot study on the potential future use of aerial sound sources utilizing parametric array loudspeakers (PALs) in drones via fifth-generation (5G) networks. Integrating superdirectional loudspeakers with high-speed wireless communication is essential for projecting sound from the air to specific locations using drones. Herein, as an experimental approach, we have evaluated the performance of wireless communication, specifically local 5G, for realizing aerial sound sources. The results demonstrated the high performance of the local 5G connection intended for PALs in the air. © 2023 IEEE.

To address the limitations of typical coil detection systems and enhance the performance of traditional magnetic field imaging (MFI) systems, we propose a MFI system that uses a 4×4 array of anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) sensors. The core controller of the proposed system was designed using a pipelined parallelization algorithm and implemented on a high-speed field-programmable gate array (FPGA) in a fully hardware-based architecture. The designed MFI system can achieve parallel acquisition of magnetic field components from the 16-channel AMR sensor array, parallel data processing, parallel data transmission, and parallel computations in a single cycle of only 4 ms. Compared with typical detection systems, the proposed solution not only exhibits superior performance but can also provide dynamic visual representations of sensed information. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Web services are provided as reusable software components in the services-oriented *** complicated composite services can be combined from these components to satisfy the user requirements represented as a workflow with specified Quality of Service(QoS)*** workflow consists of tasks where many services can be considered for each *** for optimal services combination and optimizing the overall QoS limitations is a Non-deterministic Polynomial(NP)-hard *** work focuses on the Web Service Composition(WSC)problem and proposes a new service composition algorithm based on the micro-bats behavior while hunting the *** proposed algorithm determines the optimal combination of the web services to satisfy the complex user *** also addresses the Bat Algorithm(BA)shortcomings,such as the tradeoff among exploration and exploitation searching mechanisms,local optima,and convergence *** proposed enhancement includes a developed cooperative and adaptive population initialization *** elitist mechanism is utilized to address the BA convergence *** tradeoff between exploration and exploitation is handled through a neighborhood search *** benchmark datasets are selected to evaluate the proposed bat algorithm’s *** simulation results are estimated using the average fitness value,the standard deviation of the fitness value,and an average of the execution time and compared with four bat-inspired *** is observed from the simulation results that introduced enhancement obtains significant results.
