High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) provides massive aggregated memory bandwidth by exposing multiple memory channels to the processing units. To achieve high performance, an accelerator built on top of an FPGA configured with HBM (i.e., FPGA-HBM platform) needs to scale its performance according to the available memory channels. In this paper, we propose an accelerator for BFS (Breadth-First Search) algorithm, named as ScalaBFS, that builds multiple processing elements to sufficiently exploit the high bandwidth of HBM to improve efficiency. We implement the prototype system of ScalaBFS and conduct BFS in both real-world and synthetic scale-free graphs on Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card real hardware. The experimental results show that ScalaBFS scales its performance almost linearly according to the available memory pseudo channels (PCs) from the HBM2 subsystem of U280. By fully using the 32 PCs and building 64 processing elements (PEs) on U280, ScalaBFS achieves a performance up to 19.7 GTEPS (Giga Traversed Edges Per Second). When conducting BFS in sparse real-world graphs, ScalaBFS achieves equivalent GTEPS to Gunrock running on the state-of-art Nvidia V100 GPU that features 64-PC HBM2 (twice memory bandwidth than U280). The cache can improve the DSP processor's access speed to external memory and solve the “Storage Wall” problem. Designing an efficient and flexible cache module plays an vital role in improving the memory access efficiency and overall performance of the DSP. Based on the analysis of DSP storage level design requirements, combined with the actual pipeline structure of the DSP processor SWIFT independently developed by our laboratory, in this paper, we design and implement first- level instruction and data cache. For L1 D-Cache, the relevant conflict detection and processing module is designed to support four parallel Load/Store access requests. The size of the cache can be flexibly configured according to actual application requirements to achieve a balance between power consumption and latency. To write back the modified data left in the cache before the cache size is changed, the Cacheclean instruction is designed. Finally, module-level functional verification and logic synthesis are carried out. The results show that the cache function meets expectations, and the critical path after logic synthesis optimization meets the requirement of 1GHz frenuency.

L2E: Learning to exploit your opponent

Opponent modeling is essential to exploit suboptimal opponents in strategic interactions. Most previous works focus on building explicit models to directly predict the opponents’ styles or strategies, which require a large amount of data to train the model and lack adaptability to unknown opponents. In this work, we propose a novel Learning to Exploit (L2E) framework for implicit opponent modeling. L2E acquires the ability to exploit opponents by a few interactions with different opponents during training, thus can adapt to new opponents with unknown styles during testing quickly. We propose a novel opponent strategy generation algorithm that produces effective opponents for training automatically. We evaluate L2E on two poker games and one grid soccer game, which are the commonly used benchmarks for opponent modeling. Comprehensive experimental results indicate that L2E quickly adapts to diverse styles of unknown opponents. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

AlphaStar, a multi-agent intelligence program, is a new member of Alpha’s gamer software. Rated at Grandmaster level in the empirical evaluation shows that AlphaStar has been a great success in engineering, which is another milestone in AI history. After a brief introduction to AlphaStar, we discussed its computational architecture, league training, PFSP, and proposed an interesting topic direction on the basis of our suggestions, which was how to combine the capacities of diverse ANNs that successful completed learning. Additionally, we proposed the viewpoint that is big data— space, intelligence— man’ world, parallel computing—time.

Metasurfaces in the ultraviolet band have attracted current research concern due to the expanding requirement for wearable UV optical and ultra-compact systems. The constraints of traditional plasmonic metasurfaces operating in transmission mode can be controlled by using an appropriate dielectric material. A metalens presents promising wavefront engineering for multiple applications. Metalenses have sophisticated advanced technology in the progress of miniaturized and integrated optical devices. However, metalenses using the Pancharatnam– Berry (PB) phase or resonance adjusting technique are limited to polarization reliance and for different applications, polarization-insensitive metalenses are extremely preferable. We present three designs of high-efficiency dielectric polarization-insensitive UV metalens using cylindrical nanopillars with focusing efficiency, offering full phase delay in a broadband spectrum of Ultraviolet light (380–400nm). The designed metalenses include titanium dioxide (cylindrical nanopillars on a glass substrate with geometrically different radii and present magnificent polarization-insensitive operation in the broadband UV band. It will considerably advance the miniaturization and integration of the UV photonic devices by limiting the use of Plasmonics structures that are undefended to the ohmic losses and absorption of the metals. The focusing efficiency of the designed metalenses is as high as 43%, 45%, and 47% for the designed wavelengths of metalenses $\lambda_{d}=396\text{n}\text{m}$, 388 nm, and 380 nm, respectively.

Task-level authoring for remote robot teleoperation

Remote teleoperation of robots can broaden the reach of domain specialists across a wide range of industries such as home maintenance, health care, light manufacturing, and construction. However, current direct control methods are impractical, and existing tools for programming robot remotely have focused on users with significant robotic experience. Extending robot remote programming to end users, i.e., users who are experts in a domain but novices in robotics, requires tools that balance the rich features necessary for complex teleoperation tasks with ease of use. The primary challenge to usability is that novice users are unable to specify complete and robust task plans to allow a robot to perform duties autonomously, particularly in highly variable environments. Our solution is to allow operators to specify shorter sequences of high-level commands, which we call task-level authoring, to create periods of variable robot autonomy. This approach allows inexperienced users to create robot behaviors in uncertain environments by interleaving exploration, specification of behaviors, and execution as separate steps. End users are able to break down the specification of tasks and adapt to the current needs of the interaction and environments, combining the reactivity of direct control to asynchronous operation. In this paper, we describe a prototype system contextualized in light manufacturing and its empirical validation in a user study where 18 participants with some programming experience were able to perform a variety of complex telemanipulation tasks with little training. Our results show that our approach allowed users to create flexible periods of autonomy and solve rich manipulation tasks. Furthermore, participants significantly preferred our system over comparative more direct interfaces, demonstrating the potential of our approach for enabling end users to effectively perform remote robot programming. Dengue fever caused by dengue virus infection is a severe health threat that can lead to death. In the medical and health field, to classify data, data mining exploitation and classification methods have an essential role in predicting disease. Two main criteria are crucial to diagnosing dengue virus infection, namely the criteria clinical diagnosis and laboratory diagnosis. Dengue infection based on clinical signs and symptoms, as well as laboratory examinations, is made in three clinical diagnosis criteria, which consist of dengue fever (DF), dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). This study was conducted with the primary objective to test and evaluate eight different classification algorithms to find the best algorithm in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Classification algorithm used to predict dengue virus infection cases into three classes of DF, DHF, and DSS based on the performance of accuracy, precision, and recall. The classification algorithm used in this comparison were Neural Networks (NN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Decision Tree, Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, AdaBoost, and Logistic Regression. The dataset called DBDDKK was collected from the Division of Disease Prevention and Control in the Semarang City Health Office, Central Java, Indonesia. Impute missing values, selection relevant feature, and normalize feature conducted in the preprocessing stage resulted in 14,019 records with 16 attributes for each record. Then the data were split into 70% for training data and 30% for testing data. Cross-validation with the number of folds 10 is applied to validate the accuracy during the dataset training process. The result of the comparison shows that the NN algorithm has the best accuracy that was over other algorithms. © 2020 IEEE.

Nash Equilibrium Seeking for General Linear systems with Disturbance Rejection

This paper explores aggregative games in a network of general linear systems subject to external disturbances. To deal with external disturbances, distributed strategy-updating rules based on internal model are proposed for the case with perfect and imperfect information, respectively. Different from existing algorithms based on gradient dynamics, by introducing the integral of gradient of cost functions on the basis of passive theory, the rules are proposed to force the strategies of all players to evolve to Nash equilibrium regardless the effect of disturbances. The convergence of the two strategy-updating rules is analyzed via Lyapunov stability theory, passive theory and singular perturbation theory.
