SAND: semi-automated adaptive network defense via programmable rule generation and deployment

Cyber security is dynamic as defenders often need to adapt their defense postures. The state-ofthe-art is that the adaptation of network defense is done manually(i.e., tedious and error-prone). The ideal solution is to automate adaptive network defense, which is however a difficult problem. As a first step towards automation, we propose investigating how to attain semi-automated adaptive network defense(SAND). We propose an approach extending the architecture of software-defined networking, which is centered on providing defenders with the capability to program the generation and deployment of dynamic defense rules enforced by network defense tools. We present the design and implementation of SAND, as well as the evaluation of the prototype implementation. Experimental results show that SAND can achieve agile and effective dynamic adaptations of defense rules(less than 15 ms on average for each operation), while only incurring a small performance overhead.

The usage of machine learning and deep learning algorithms have necessitated Artificial Intelligence'. AI is aimed at automating things by limiting human interference. It is widely used in IT, healthcare, finance, and agriculture. It is achieved through several deep learning algorithms that reflect the human brain's intelligence. These AI algorithms can be manipulated according to changing needs and improved efficiency. This paper tries to utilize the developments made in AI technology to classify the images and recognize the objects present in them. One widely used AI algorithm is CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks). The CNN is a deep learning-based algorithm that consists of various layers that extract and filters the parameters present in the images. Some additional layers of ResNet50 and the CNN algorithm are used to extract the parameters to improve image recognition accuracy. The image dataset taken for training and testing the proposed model is imageNet. The images are initially processed before sending them to the proposed model. The proposed model is trained, validated, and tested through the images obtained after the initial processing. The same process is repeated several times until getting the maximum accuracy. The accuracy of the proposed model in terms of image recognition is recorded. The obtained results are compared with other image classification algorithms like VGG16 and VGG19. Edge-Computing-Enabled Deep Learning Approach for Low-Light Satellite Image Enhancement

Edge computing enables rapid data processing and decision-making on satellite payloads. Deploying deep learning-based techniques for low-light image enhancement improves early detection and tracking accuracy on satellite platforms, but it faces challenges due to limited computational resources. This article proposes an edge-computing-enabled inference model specifically designed onboard satellites. The proposed model follows an encoder-decoder architecture to generate the illumination map with low multiplication matrix complexity, 25.52 GMac of $1920 \times 1200$ image size. To reduce nanosatellite hardware consumption with a single-precision floating-point format, the edge-computing-enabled inference model proposes a quantized convolution that computes signed values. The proposed inference model is deployed on Arm Cortex-M3 microcontrollers onboard satellite payload (86.74 times faster than normal convolution model) but also has a similar quality with the low-light enhanced in full-precision computing of lightweight training model by using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (average of 28.94) and structural similarity index (average of 0.85) metrics. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Millimeter-wave radar technology is gaining popularity as a perception sensor in autonomous vehicles. This is due to its ability to detect nearby objects in adverse weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or fog, as well as its cost-effectiveness. In this paper, we explore the impact of different backbones and object detector heads on the performance of radar-based object detection algorithms. More specifically, we employ the RADDet dataset and its object detection algorithm which provides the entire Range-Azimuth-Doppler spectrum and incorporates an automatic annotation approach. We examine different backbones and object detector heads to identify optimal model combinations for autonomous driving applications. Our results show that using a YOLOv4 head integrated with a modified ResNet backbone leads to the highest mean average precision, reaching 66.3% with an intersection over union (IoU) of 0.1, and 43.6% with an IoU of 0.3. This observation will help to advance radar-based object detection, thereby enhancing safety and reliability in diverse environmental conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

OblivTime: Oblivious and Efficient Interval Skyline Query Processing Over Encrypted Time-Series Data

Time-series data is prevalent in many applications like smart homes, smart grids, and healthcare. And it is now increasingly common to store and query time-series data in the cloud. Despite the benefits, data privacy concerns in such outsourced services are pressing, making it imperative to embed privacy assurance mechanisms from the outset. Most existing related works have been focused on querying for different types of aggregate statistics. In this article, we instead focus on the secure support for advanced interval skyline queries, which allow to identify time series that are not dominated by any other time series within a query time interval. This is valuable for time-series data analytics in applications like remote health monitoring (e.g., identifying patients with high heart rates in a certain week). We present OblivTime, a new system framework for oblivious and efficient interval skyline query processing over encrypted time-series data. OblivTime is built from a synergy of time-series data analytics, lightweight cryptography, and GPU parallel computing, achieving stronger security guarantees and lower online query latency over the state-of-the-art prior work. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OblivTime can achieve up to 666 x speedup in online query latency over the state-of-the-art prior work. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Recently,human healthcare from body sensor data has gained considerable interest from a wide variety of human-computer communication and pattern analysis research owing to their real-time applications namely smart healthcare *** though there are various forms of utilizing distributed sensors to monitor the behavior of people and vital signs,physical human action recognition(HAR)through body sensors gives useful information about the lifestyle and functionality of an *** article concentrates on the design of an Improved Transient Search Optimization with Machine Learning based BehaviorRecognition(ITSOMLBR)technique using body sensor *** presented ITSOML-BR technique collects data from different body sensors namely electrocardiography(ECG),accelerometer,and *** addition,the ITSOML-BR technique extract features like variance,mean,skewness,and standard ***,the presented ITSOML-BR technique executes a micro neural network(MNN)which can be employed for long term healthcare monitoring and ***,the parameters related to the MNN model are optimally selected via the ITSO *** experimental result analysis of the ITSOML-BR technique is tested on the MHEALTH *** comprehensive comparison study reported a higher result for the ITSOMLBR approach over other existing approaches with maximum accuracy of 99.60%.

Due to the intense data flow in expanding Internet of Things(IoT)applications,a heavy processing cost and workload on the fog-cloud side become *** of the most critical challenges is optimal task *** this is an NP-hard problem type,a metaheuristic approach can be a good *** study introduces a novel enhancement to the Artificial Rabbits Optimization(ARO)algorithm by integrating Chaotic maps and Levy flight strategies(CLARO).This dual approach addresses the limitations of standard ARO in terms of population diversity and convergence *** is designed for task scheduling in fog-cloud environments,optimizing energy consumption,makespan,and execution time simultaneously three critical parameters often treated individually in prior *** conventional single-objective methods,the proposed approach incorporates a multi-objective fitness function that dynamically adjusts the weight of each parameter,resulting in better resource allocation and load *** analysis,a real-world dataset,the Open-source Google Cloud Jobs Dataset(GoCJ_Dataset),is used for performance measurement,and analyses are performed on three considered *** are applied with well-known algorithms:GWO,SCSO,PSO,WOA,and ARO to indicate the reliability of the proposed *** this regard,performance evaluation is performed by assigning these tasks to Virtual Machines(VMs)in the resource *** are performed on 90 base cases and 30 scenarios for each evaluation *** results indicated that the proposed algorithm achieved the best makespan performance in 80% of cases,ranked first in execution time in 61%of cases,and performed best in the final parameter in 69% of *** addition,according to the obtained results based on the defined fitness function,the proposed method(CLARO)is 2.52%better than ARO,3.95%better than SCSO,5.06%better than GWO,8.15%better than PSO,and 9.41%better than WOA.

Static Analysis Techniques for Fixing Software Defects in MPI-Based Parallel Programs

The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a widely accepted standard for parallel computing on distributed ***, MPI implementations can contain defects that impact the reliability and performance of parallelapplications. Detecting and correcting these defects is crucial, yet there is a lack of published models specificallydesigned for correctingMPI defects. To address this, we propose a model for detecting and correcting MPI defects(DC_MPI), which aims to detect and correct defects in various types of MPI communication, including blockingpoint-to-point (BPTP), nonblocking point-to-point (NBPTP), and collective communication (CC). The defectsaddressed by the DC_MPI model include illegal MPI calls, deadlocks (DL), race conditions (RC), and messagemismatches (MM). To assess the effectiveness of the DC_MPI model, we performed experiments on a datasetconsisting of 40 MPI codes. The results indicate that the model achieved a detection rate of 37 out of 40 codes,resulting in an overall detection accuracy of 92.5%. Additionally, the execution duration of the DC_MPI modelranged from 0.81 to 1.36 s. These findings show that the DC_MPI model is useful in detecting and correctingdefects in MPI implementations, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of parallel applications. TheDC_MPImodel fills an important research gap and provides a valuable tool for improving the quality ofMPI-basedparallel computing systems.

Wind power prediction interval(WPPI)models in the literature have predominantly been developed for and tested on specific case ***,wind behavior and characteristics can vary significantly across ***,a prediction model that performs well in one case might underperform in *** address this shortcoming,this paper proposes an ensemble WPPI framework that integrates multiple WPPI models with distinct characteristics to improve *** important and often overlooked factor is the role of probabilistic wind power prediction(WPP)in quantifying wind power uncertainty,which should be handled by operating *** reserve in WPPI frameworks enhances the efficacy of *** this regard,the proposed framework employs a novel bi-layer optimization approach that takes both WPPI quality and reserve requirements into *** analysis with different real-world datasets and various benchmark models validates the quality of the obtained WPPIs while resulting in more optimal reserve requirements.
