Using low resolution digital elevation model (DEM) data, reconstruction of cartographic contours is focused on. With a small number of control points, we aim to draw a smooth curve as well as to compute the area and perimeter of a closed contour accurately. The input data forms an oriented contour, each control point of which consists of three values: x, y, and tangent angle. An interpolation method based on arc spline is developed. The method can reproduce G1 continuous curves,in which the exact area and perimeter can be calculated. In a numerical experiment for analytically defined curves, accurate computation of the area and perimeter was achieved with a smaller number of control points. In another experiment using a DEM data, the reconstructed contours were smoother than those by a conventional method.

In this paper we propose an integrated test environment for combinatorial testing and discuss its realization at macro level. We describe the entities that make up the integrated test environment and their interaction, high-lighting the combinatorial test aspects. The proposed environment can be used for the automated as well as manual testing. Test tools supplied by research institutions and commercial tool vendors need to be integrated to realize the test environment proposed in this paper. The proposed system is theoretical in nature which can be embraced by large scale industrial and research projects to achieve an efficient integrated environment for combinatorial testing. This in turn can aid in the adoption of combinatorial testing to achieve the desired quality improvements in the products.

The use of IEEE 802.15.4 standard based application systems has been rapidly increasing, for example, in medical services, sensor networks, public safety systems, and home automation systems. However, issues arise from the fact that IEEE 802.15.4 standard based low rate wireless personal area networks(LR-WPANs) use the same frequency bands as wireless local area networks(WLANs), and they interfere with each other. Based on past research on this issue, the interference has a more serious impact on LR-WPANs' performance than on WLANs' performance. In this paper we propose a method to improve LR-WPANs' performance while coexisting with WLANs, which is called the reliable beacon transmission based medium access control(MAC) protocol. Since the reliability of a beacon frame is important, in this method, only the beacon frame is transmitted in interference-free channels, and the data packets are transmitted in interfered channels instead of abandoning the channels altogether. This method increases the reliability of beacon frames as well as overall channel utilizations. The effectiveness of the proposed method was evaluated through extensive simulations, and this paper proves that this method improves the performance of IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor networks(WSNs) over WLANs' interferences.

The profuse use of software has turned the world into global village where everything is accessible at finger tips. The past studies have confirmed the rapid increase in the demand of software whereas its quality supply has drastically decreased to 6%. As high demand and low supply normally generate numerous problems, many researchers, therefore, have raised their concern to develop software affordable, less time consuming and feasible to achieve organisational ends. The findings of the past research studies have determined the fact that besides technical skills, human resources (i.e., personality type for team composition) is of pivotal importance for developing software which has not been seriously addressed. This study has tried to address this prevailing problem by focusing on patterns of personality types of programmer role monitored with team-leader. Additionally, to draw the attention of practitioners, the results are validated with several classification techniques and results appeared with high accuracy. The study has implications on both software developers and researchers having their interest in role of team composition in software development.

The availability of accurate solar radiation data is essential for designing as well as simulating the solar energy systems. In this study, by employing the long-term daily measured solar data, a neural network auto-regressive model with exogenous inputs (NN-ARX) is applied to predict daily horizontal global solar radiation using day of the year as the sole input. The prime aim is to provide a convenient and precise way for rapid daily global solar radiation prediction, for the stations and their immediate surroundings with such an observation, without utilizing any meteorological-based inputs. To fulfill this, seven Iranian cities with different geographical locations and solar radiation characteristics are considered as case studies. The performance of NN-ARX is compared against the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The achieved results prove that day of the year-based prediction of daily global solar radiation by both NN-ARX and ANFIS models would be highly feasible owing to the accurate predictions attained. Nevertheless, the statistical analysis indicates the superiority of NN-ARX over ANFIS. In fact, the NN-ARX model represents high potential to follow the measured data favorably for all cities. For the considered cities, the attained statistical indicators of mean absolute bias error, root mean square error, and coefficient of determination for the NN-ARX models are in the ranges of 0.44–0.61 kWh/m2, 0.50–0.71 kWh/m2, and 0.78–0.91, respectively.

In modern VLSI designs, timing closure has become a challenging and tedious task for the designers due to the fact that the number of design logic gates led to an exponential increase in the number of timing paths. PrimeTime from Synopsys is used to perform Static Timing Analysis and to generate a timing report in the form of large size text file; hence, data analysis is a complex task for the designer. This work presents a web-based text-mining software tool based on text-mining and web-based reporting techniques. It consists of two parts, the Perl software parser file in the user part, while MySQL and Apache servers in the server part. This tool parses Synopsys PrimeTime timing report and provides analysis services for team collaboration, clock skew and path constraints calculations, paths categorization and paths distribution in well-organized tables, and presents data on website pages.

Advanced downlink (DL) decode-and-forward two-way relaying (DF-TWR) is developed for the sake of maximizing the attainable spectral efficiency. Network-coded phase-shift keying (NC-PSK) holds the potential of significantly increasing the data rate of the network, while adaptive modulation is a powerful technique of improving both the energy and spectral efficiency. Hence power-controlled adaptive NC-PSK has the potential of achieving performance enhancements over fading channels. Given this framework, based on the bit-error-ratio (BER) bounds developed, we derive the closed-form spectral efficiency for a continuous-rate, continuous-power adaptive NC-PSK scheme, where both the transmit power and the transmit rate are optimized subject to specific power- and BER- constraints. We then conceive and investigate a discrete-rate scheme relying on a pair of solutions proposed for maximizing the throughput of the network. Our simulation results reveal that the proposed schemes are capable of achieving a higher spectral efficiency than their fixed-power counterparts.
