MLPFormer: MLP-integrated transformer for colorectal histopathology whole slide image segmentation

Colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer, which is mainly diagnosed using pathological images. According to the characteristics of lesions, precancerous lesions can be classified into four different grades, i.e., background, normal, low and high level. However, due to the continuity of lesion development, tissue in different stages has high similarity. Recently, visual transformers have achieved impressive results in different visual tasks, due to their capacity of capturing long-range dependencies. However, due to computational cost, transformer cannot well extract detailed feature, which is important for lesion grading. To accurately segment pathological tissues with high similarity, in this work, we embed the multi-head MLP mixer module in the transformer network to extract cell and edge information. Furthermore, we propose a hierarchical MLP decoder to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion. The proposed transformer, namely MLPFormer, achieves remarkable results against competitive baselines on the Histo-CRC Biopsy dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that MLPFormer significantly outperforms the competitive baselines, i.e., a 3% dice improvement is achieved over the SegFormer series. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper introduces a deep learning (DL)-based vision system for real-time object detection, grasping, and sorting using a UR5e robotic manipulator, aimed to address the challenges faced in industrial automation while grasping and sorting randomly placed objects in the workspace. The system utilizes a fine-tuned detection model, YOLOv8s, trained on a custom dataset of three distinct objects for testing a real-time grasping and sorting system using DL. Once the objects are detected in the workspace, image processing techniques are applied to each detected object to extract the accurate grasping information like the centroid and the orientation. This information is then converted to the robotic arm-based coordinate system to ensure the accurate manipulation of the objects in the workspace. The system is tested in the cluttered environment of the tabletop workspace to grasp and sort the objects, significantly enhancing both speed and accuracy in real-time industrial tasks. Experimental results show grasping accuracy of 93.33%, demonstrating the system's potential to improve automation efficiency in Industry 4.0 applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Optimizing therapy and rehabilitation for Parkinson's disease (PD) requires early identification and precise evaluation of the illness's course. However, there is disagreement about the best way to use gait analysis to categorize the severity of motor symptoms and identify early-stage Parkinson's disease. The precision of machine learning (ML) models in identifying early and intermediate stages of Parkinson's disease was assessed in this study. Six ML models are used in this study for the prediction of PD. Different metrics are used to evaluate ML models such as accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, and AUC score. Then we propose a multi-criteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) to evaluate the ML models and select the best one. Two MCDM methods are used such as CRITIC method to compute the criteria weights and the TOPSIS method to rank the alternatives. These methods are used under the bipolar neutrosophic sets (BNSs) to deal with uncertainty information. The results show the support vector machine is the best ML model for the prediction of PD. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

This work presents an adaptive tracking guidance method for robotic fishes. The scheme enables robots to suppress external interference and eliminate motion jitter. An adaptive integral surge line-of-sight guidance rule is designed to eliminate dynamics interference and sideslip issues. Limited-time yaw and surge speed observers are reported to fit disturbance variables in the model. The approximation values can compensate for the system's control input and improve the robots' tracking ***, this work develops a terminal sliding mode controller and third-order differential processor to determine the rotational torque and reduce the robots' run jitter. Then, Lyapunov's theory proves the uniform ultimate boundedness of the proposed method. Simulation and physical experiments confirm that the technology improves the tracking error convergence speed and stability of robotic fishes.

The use of batteries as an energy storage medium has a very important role in the installation of renewable energy power plants, such as photovoltaics to overcome intermittency in photovoltaics and to maintain stable power quality. In this study, the installation of solar plants that was used as the research object was a smart micro grid that integrates photovoltaic electrical energy sources with the Utility electricity network for residential scale. The battery monitoring system is used to manage the performance of existing batteries on the electricity grid through analysis of the battery's electrical values such as current, voltage, power and energy, so that it can function optimally in storing electrical energy and supplying electricity to users. Internet of things (IoT) technology is used to provide easy transfer of data obtained through the process of data acquisition to data visualization provided to be accessed by users in real time. This research aims to develop an IoT-based battery monitoring system. The development carried out focuses on the data acquisition process, the data transfer process using IoT technology, the process of analyzing and visualizing data on the IoT cloud and remote access to users. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new information technology sector in which each device may receive and distribute data across a network. Industrial IoT (IIoT) and related areas, such as Industrial Wireless Networks (IWNs), big data, and cloud computing, have made significant strides recently. Using IIoT requires a reliable and effective data collection system, such as a spanning tree. Many previous spanning tree algorithms ignore failure and mobility. In such cases, the spanning tree is broken, making data delivery to the base station difficult. This study proposes an algorithm to construct an optimal spanning tree by combining an artificial bee colony, genetic operators, and density correlation degree to make suitable trees. The trees’ fitness is measured using hop count distances of the devices from the base station, residual energy of the devices, and their mobility probabilities in this technique. The simulation outcomes highlight the enhanced data collection reliability achieved by the suggested algorithm when compared to established methods like the Reliable Spanning Tree (RST) construction algorithm in IIoT and the Hop Count Distance (HCD) based construction algorithm. This proposed algorithm shows improved reliability across diverse node numbers, considering key parameters including reliability, energy consumption, displacement probability, and distance. © The Author(s) 2024.

This research aims to develop an interactive learning system based on Arduino Uno basic material. To realize this system, Augmented Reality technology is used which will explain each Arduino Uno pin function along with an explanation of each example of the basic circuit provided. This started with the Arduino Uno learning process which often caused damage to the Arduino or the components that were connected to the Arduino itself during the process of making the circuit. This problem can occur due to a lack of basic understanding of theory. The use of Augmented Reality technology is able to display objects in the form of Arduinos in virtual 3D, so that 3D objects can appear, markers are used to mark each object, the introduction of the Arduino Uno itself can be simulated by providing a real picture using the multi marker method where there is a main marker containing 3D objects in the Arduino series and supporting markers containing explanations of the series. Thus, learning is not limited to conventional learning and minimizes errors in trials. The method used to develop the system is the waterfall method. The waterfall method itself is part of implementing a design with a good and reasonable target. Based on the tests obtained, the Arduino Uno learning application is able to run well using multiple markers, 3D or 2D objects can be run on a smartphone, and black box testing and marker reading testing are carried out with different lighting levels and reading from different sides. © 2023 IEEE.

In a distribution system, power loss and voltage deviation are the main concern for the customers and utility. The distribution system has a lower voltage level and higher amount of flowing current than the transmission system, so that, the percentage real power loss in the distribution system is higher. This study addresses power loss and voltage deviation concerns in distribution systems. It optimizes the Yirgalem-Ethiopia radial distribution network using the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) and solar Distributed Generation (DG). SSA outperforms other algorithms in reducing real and reactive power losses and improving the voltage profile. The approach minimizes network costs and maintains voltage within acceptable limits. It proves cost-effective, demonstrating significant power loss reduction and improved voltage profiles. The resource feasibility of solar and wind power in Yirgalem city was analyzed and the outcomes showed that solar power generation is more desirable. For this reason, the solar-type Distributed Generation (DG) is used. The proposed SSA algorithm was compared with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) in three various scenarios (only optimal network reconfiguration, only optimal DG size and site, and simultaneous optimal network reconfiguration and DG allocation) for the Aposto feeder. As stated, the SSA method performs better in terms of reducing both real and reactive power losses and improvement of voltage profile. The model has been formulated to minimize the total cost of the network by determining the optima of the substation locations and power, the load transfers between the demand centers, the feeder routes and the load flow in the network subject to a set of constraints. From the point of view of economic evaluations, the proposed approach is cost-effective. Kidney disease (KD) is a gradually increasing global health concern. It is a chronic illness linked to higher rates of morbidity and mortality, a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and numerous other illnesses, and expensive medical expenses. The machine learning (ML) models are applied for KD prediction with higher accuracy and precision. The KD dataset has uncertainty and vague information, so, we used the neutrosophic set (NS) to deal with vague and uncertainty information in the KD dataset. The KD dataset is converted into the N-KD dataset with three membership functions: truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. Three ML models are used in this study such as logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor (KNN). These ML models are applied to the N-KD dataset. The results show the LR has higher accuracy and precision on the N-KD dataset than the original KD dataset. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Image-to-image translation has become a prominent trend in the field of computer vision. This innovative technique is widely employed for generating concealed facial features from given noise. It proves particularly useful in reconstructing obscured facial regions covered by masks. The underlying technology at the core of this method is the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). The primary mechanism of GAN-based neural networks relies on an encoder-decoder structure combined with a discriminator network. The discriminator plays a crucial role in training the network to distinguish between authentic and generated images. FUGAN, a novel approach in this domain, incorporates a self-attention block and has demonstrated superior performance to other models. With an impressive SSIM and BRISQUE score of 0.928 and 27.990, respectively, FUGAN is at the forefront of achieving state-of-the-art results. The architecture of the FUGAN neural network is built upon the UNET framework, with modifications to enhance its effectiveness. These modifications involve increasing the network depth and incorporating batch instance normalization as a regularizer to achieve the desired outcomes. The resulting model attains a smaller size and exhibits high accuracy in image regeneration. This streamlined and efficient FUGAN model is well-suited for deploying low-resource Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Its capability to regenerate facial features from masked regions makes it instrumental in surveillance systems, detecting individuals wearing masks and reconstructing their facial details.
