Address event representation (AER) object recognition task has attracted extensive attention in neuromorphic vision processing. The spike-based and event-driven computation inherent in the spiking neural network (SNN) provides an energy-saving solution for AER object recognition. However, SNN with spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) learning rule has not achieved satisfying AER object recognition performance. This work proposes an SNN-based encoder-decoder model to improve the recognition performance of AER objects. An STDP-based locally connected spiking neural network (LC-SNN) is proposed as an encoder to extract rich spatiotemporal features from AER event flows more flexibly. After the encoder extracts and learns primary features, we propose a fully connected spiking neural network (FC-SNN) based on the reward-modulated spike-timing-dependent plasticity (R-STDP) learning rule as a decoder to learn higher-level features for classification. In addition, we improved the winner-take-all (WTA) mechanisms and R-STDP learning rule in the decoder based on the reward and punish decision, enabling the network to perform better. The experiments are performed on the N-MNIST, MNIST-DVS, and the DVS Gesture datasets, improving the accuracy of the best existing plasticity-based SNN by 0.19%, 0.27% and 1.35%, respectively. © 2016 IEEE.

In 2020, the world suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic. This situation highlighted the considerable need for systems to detect viruses quickly. Providing an accurate e-health system that detects, monitors, and controls virus spread became necessary. Countries attempt to reduce the virus's spread using basic processes such as quarantine and lockdown. Early virus detection is requested to reduce the threat and decrease the propagation of the pandemic. This paper proposes an attempt to avoid speed-up spreading based on airborne virus detection. The suggested detection based on the SiNW-FET biosensor is not approved as a standardized diagnostic test. To support the airborne detection methodology, a metasurface technology based on Reflector cylindrical antenna with a sensing unit is proposed to detect viruses. The proposal considered the propagation delays and concentration of a virus. Conducted results prove that the receiver's volume is considered a primary key to an accurate detection rather than the virus's concentration. © 2023 IEEE.

Software vulnerabilities are a major cyber threat and it is important to detect them. One important approach to detecting vulnerabilities is to use deep learning while treating a program function as a whole, known as function-level vulnerability detectors. However, the limitation of this approach is not understood. In this paper, we investigate its limitation in detecting one class of vulnerabilities known as inter-procedural vulnerabilities, where the to-be-patched statements and the vulnerability-triggering statements belong to different functions. For this purpose, we create the first Inter -Procedural Vulnerability Dataset (InterPVD) based on C/C++ open-source software, and we propose a tool dubbed VulTrigger for identifying vulnerability-triggering statements across functions. Experimental results show that VulTrigger can effectively identify vulnerability-triggering statements and inter-procedural vulnerabilities. Our findings include: (i) inter-procedural vulnerabilities are prevalent with an average of 2.8 inter-procedural layers;and (ii) function-level vulner-ability detectors are much less effective in detecting to-be-patched functions of inter-procedural vulnerabilities than detecting their counterparts of intra-procedural vulnerabilities. © 2024 ACM.

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical technology allows transmission of many wavelengths in a single optical channel. In this paper, system modelling and numerical simulations are demonstrated for high-capacity data transmission using an Optical Frequency Comb (OFC). An OFC is generated using fiber loop modulation technique and simulations are carried out using commercially available simulation software -Optisystem. An OFC with excellent flatness is obtained, which is essential for noise and error reduction. Each comb line is modulated with data and the DWDM multiplexed signal is transmitted over a free-space optical (FSO) channel. The system performance is assessed in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and range of the FSO channel. Our experimental results demonstrate that our system aligns well with simulation and can generate an OFC confirming the potential of our approach for applications such as optical communication networks. © 2024 IEEE.

The extensive application of smart contract technology in the blockchain domain has positioned it as a key component of the digital economy. However, as the application scope of smart contracts expands, security issues have become increasingly evident, resulting in substantial economic losses. Current vulnerability detection methods largely depend on analyzing complete smart contract source code, which struggles to filter out extensive redundant information when identifying individual vulnerabilities. This leads to an insufficient exploration of the characteristics of smart contract code, which in turn results in lower overall accuracy of detection methods. In this context, the study introduces a method that transforms smart contract source code into a control flow graph, filtering out the main basic blocks based on key information about timestamp vulnerabilities. Subsequently, individual operation audits are conducted on these basic blocks, combined with the graphical structure of the control flow graph, utilizing gated graph neural networks for detecting timestamp vulnerabilities in smart contracts. Comparative experiments were performed on two public datasets, and the results indicate that compared to state-of-the-art detection methods, the proposed approach has improved the accuracy and F1 score for detecting timestamp vulnerabilities in smart contracts by 1.65% and 6.51%, providing valuable application prospects for the security of smart contracts. © 2024 Knowledge systems Institute Graduate School. Federated learning (FL) is a popular distributed paradigm where enormous clients collaboratively train a machine learning (ML) model under the orchestration of a central server without knowing the clients' private raw data. The development of effective FL algorithms faces multiple practical challenges including data heterogeneity and clients' privacy protection. Despite that numerous attempts have been made to deal with data heterogeneity or rigorous privacy protection, none have effectively tackled both issues simultaneously. In this article, we propose a differentially private and heterogeneity-robust FL algorithm, named DP-FedCVR to mitigate the data heterogeneity by following the client-variance-reduction strategy. Besides, it adopts a sophisticated differential privacy (DP) mechanism where the privacy-amplified strategy is applied, to achieve a rigorous privacy protection guarantee. We show that the proposed DP-FedCVR algorithm maintains its heterogeneity-robustness though DP noises are incorporated, while achieving a sublinear convergence rate for a nonconvex FL problem. Numerical experiments based on image classification tasks are presented to demonstrate that DP-FedCVR provides superior performance over the benchmark algorithms in the presence of data heterogeneity and various DP privacy budgets. © 2020 IEEE.

The formation control problem of second-order nonholonomic systems formulated by a force-balance equation is investigated with network communication constraints. A novel event-triggered mechanism based on polynomial interpolation predictive models is presented. To address the stabilization obstacles imposed by the nonholonomic constraints, persistently exciting (PE) functions are utilized to design the distributed control protocols. Under the designed event-triggered mechanism, the system does not exhibit Zeno behavior. Sufficient conditions for second-order nonholonomic systems to achieve stable formation are obtained based on Barbalat’s lemma. Finally, numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Multi-version graph processing has been widely used to solve many real-world problems. The process of the multi-version graph processing typically includes: (1) a history graph version switching at a specific time and (2) graph processing on this history graph. Existing multi-version graph systems assume ideally that every request for a particular graph version at a particular time will have a corresponding snapshot available. However, in most cases, this is not true. Then existing solutions usually have to settle with an "approximating"version as a substitute, leading to unexpected results for the underlying graph algorithm and thus reducing the practicality of a multi-version graph system for many application scenarios *** this paper, we observe that only a few graph updates have a great impact on the final results. We therefore present AFaVS, a novel multi-version graph system that can improve accuracy effectively in both time- and memory-efficient manners. The cornerstone of AFaVS lies in a novel concept "value"that characterizes the importance of graph updates. AFaVS proposes differential management of updates based on their values and achieves higher accuracy while preserving processing and memory efficiency. AFaVS is also equipped with value-guided version switching and locality-aware optimizations to boost its overall efficiency. Our results on a variety of real-world datasets show that AFaVS outperforms four state-of-the-art multi-version graph systems by 74.35%~95.72% in terms of accuracy improvement and 57.03%~90.44% in terms of memory reduction while introducing less than 2.96% extra computing time. We have deployed AFaVS in a disaster recovery system on the production cluster of Alibaba, achieving 78.8%~90.1% fewer error rates than advanced systems at a comparable efficiency. © 2023 IEEE.

Video matting aims at accurately separating foreground from videos. Recent video matting researches pursue to eliminate auxiliary inputs. However, due to the limited ability of extracting global correlation features, these methods suffer from performance degradation when dealing with complex scenes or natural background videos. To address this challenge, we propose a video matting method called Video Matting Based on Local-Global Features Fusion (VMBLGFF) which can extract both comprehensive global correlation features and local subtle features. VMBLGFF contains two closely connected networks: a transformer network that utilizes window and global attention mechanisms to obtain global correlation features within and cross windows, and a fusion network that integrates local subtle features into the global correlation features to supplement the local detail information which may be overlooked by the attention mechanisms. VMBLGFF alleviates the issue of limiting global correlation features and has been benchmarked on both synthetic and real datasets, and the results demonstrate that VMBLGFF improves the quality of video matting and exhibits good generalization performance. © 2024 SPIE.

In this paper, we investigate the issues of real-time sensor scheduling and state estimator design within large-scale sensor network systems. Specifically, data redundancy sometimes occurs in large-scale sensor arrays due to the excessive proximity of sensing units in the spatial domain, leading to high similarity in their measurement data. Currently, it is difficult to account for such redundancy in sensor scheduling algorithms found in existing literature, where the optimal subset of sensors is generally selected by optimizing objective functions formulated from certain performance criteria. To tackle this problem, we introduce an event-based sensor scheduling strategy, the triggering condition of which is designed founded on the similarity of sensor data, so as to identify the most informative subset of sensors for state estimation. To evaluate the impact of the sensor scheduling protocol on system observability, we propose a new notion of E(varepsilon)-observability, based on which an observability criterion is derived. In addition, we have designed a set-valued state estimation algorithm, which takes into account the intricate measurement information structure inherent within the sensor selection mechanism. The performance enhancement of the proposed estimator is also investigated. Finally, numerical experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed estimation algorithm and to verify the performance improvement. © 2024 IEEE.
