Panoramic image plays an extremely important role in the application of 3D, but in some special scenarios, the depth information is also needed as an auxiliary, but to obtain the panoramic depth information needs a high cost, it is extremely difficult to obtain. Therefore, this paper proposes a panoramic depth estimation method called PDEGAN (Panoramic Depth Estimation Generative Adversarial Network). This method first enhances the style migration, transfers the input panoramic image to a style closer to the panoramic depth image domain, and then combines the conversion results with the original panoramic image as the input data for further depth estimation training. By using the style closer to the depth estimation, the texture, color and other characteristics of the image can be adjusted, so as to better highlight the depth information of the object in the image, so that the generator network is more focused on performing the image translation task, reduce the impact of style differences on the image translation task, and improve the generalization ability of the model. At the same time, the model will also use multi-scale feature fusion, combined with the attention mechanism, to better capture the depth information of different scales, viewing angles and channels. Not only that, but also by introducing depth gradient loss, surface normal loss to improve the accuracy and stability of depth estimation. To this end, we also made a set of related datasets for the related experiments of PDEGAN, and named it PDE Images. Finally, it is shown that the method proposed in this paper has more accurate estimation results than the traditional Pix2Pix image conversion model. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. Robust registration is able to register the complementary information captured by multimodal images. Owning to the nonlinear intensity differences and repeating patterns in multimodal images, many classic descriptors are unable to achieve good performance. Aiming at this problem, a remote sensing image registration method based on key point description and filtering is proposed. First, this work utilizes a new keypoint descriptor with Log-Gabor filters to characterize the oriented phase congruency information in multimodal images. Then, a keypoint filtering is performed on all descriptors by mean-shift clustering to remove the repeating patterns. This approach is evaluated on three commonly used data sets, which are used for structure map construction and image registration comparisons. The experimental results show that the proposed method is able to preserve highly similar structure features and remove most repeating keypoints in multimodal images, which indicates this method is efficient and can achieve good registration performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model’s capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

The combination of Chest X-Ray imaging and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has proven its efficiency in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) detection [1]. The present paper proposes an efficient COVID-19 detection system based on a new textural features descriptor: Monogenic Local Binary Pattern Variance (MLBPV). An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model is used for Regions Of Interest (ROIs) classification. Evaluating MLBPV, it outperforms other tested models by achieving an Area Under Curve (A-{z}) of 0.96263 and an accuracy of 99.9805%. Comparing our method with previous ones proves that ours provides the best performance. This model may be implemented in digital X-Ray machine for radiography and help radiologists. © 2022 IEEE.

To accurately extract Brillouin frequency shift of BOTDA with large sweeping step sizes, a novel structure of GAFCNN is proposed, combining time series coding with convolutional neural networks. The experimental data validation results demonstrate that the GAFCNN is capable of obtaining more accurate results under large sweep steps and low signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) than other current methods. © 2025 SPIE.

This article introduces a novel method for predicting solar energy production using an affordable data logger and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithm. The main goal of this research is to create a precise predictive model for solar energy output, addressing the critical need for accurate forecasting in the renewable energy industry. The study capitalizes on the accessibility and cost-efficiency of a low-cost data logger to collect detailed environmental and solar irradiance data. The ANN algorithm is utilized to analyze the collected dataset, providing a robust and effective approach for forecasting solar energy production. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the developed model achieves an impressive R2 score of 0.95, indicating a high degree of accuracy and reliability in predicting solar energy output. This significant R2 score highlights the proposed methodology’s effectiveness, demonstrating its potential for practical applications in solar energy planning and management. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

As the largest class of small non-coding RNAs, piRNAs primarily present in the reproductive cells of mammals, which influence post-transcriptional processes of mRNAs in multiple ways. Effective methods for predicting piRNA and mRNA target relationships can help identify piRNA functions, investigate the possibility of piRNAs as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In this study, we propose a computational approach for classifying the relationships of piRNA-mRNA pairs based on an interactive inference network (IIN). First, we gather piRNA-mRNA target data, collect sequence data by position alignment, and construct a benchmark dataset. Furthermore, a reliable negative set is constructed by positive-unlabeled learning. Finally, we view a piRNA and a mRNA sequence as a premise and hypothesis sentence, respectively, and IIN model is used to predict the relationship between them. The experiments demonstrate that our method effectively characterizes piRNA-mRNA interaction and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate piRNA functions. © 2023 IEEE.

Radio frequency energy harvesting (RF EH) and clustering are promising solutions to solve the energy constraint problem faced by cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSNs). However, study on clustering routing protocol design for RF EH-CRSNs is still in the initial stage, and there lacks of solutions for inter-cluster routing problem, which restricts the network scalability. In addition, unbalanced harvested energy and energy consumption may result in premature death of nodes in key position, which will significantly reduce the network performance. In this paper, a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-based multi-hop clustering routing protocol (SMCRP) is proposed for RF EH-CRSNs to well balance the residual energy distribution among nodes and postpone node death. Apart from the RF energy harvested from dedicated or ambi-ent energy sources, the energy obtained through intra-cluster and inter-cluster SWIPT is also considered to facilitate high-quality cluster heads selection, cluster formation and inter-cluster route establishment. Power splitting ratio is derived based on the residual energy of CRSNs nodes and their energy consumption to enable effective implementation of SWIPT in CRSNs. Simulation results show that SMCRP is effective in balancing the residual energy distribution among nodes and improving node sustainability. To be specific, compared with current clustering protocols, the network lifetime is extended by 64.07% while intra-cluster energy balance degree and network energy balance degree are improved by 15.1% and 7.82%, respectively. © 2023 ISSN 2414-8105 (Online).
