This paper proposes a systematic gain setting method for the positive feedback anti-islanding scheme which is designed to protect the interconnected inverter-based distributed generators (DGs) from islanding operation. Two main factors affecting the performance of the anti-islanding scheme are investigated when the positive feedback gain is tuned. One is the stability impact of the anti-islanding control on distributed generation (DG) systems and the other is the islanding detection time of the anti-islanding scheme. The small-signal model and the electromagnetic transient simulation model of an inverter-based DG system are developed to facilitate the realization of the proposed gain setting method. This method provides a practical and reliable tool for DG planning engineers. ©2010 IEEE.

Hyper-redundant manipulators have been widely used in many fields, however many existing hyper redundant manipulators actuated directly by motors have the disadvantages of complicate structure and high cost. This paper proposes a novel remote cable-driven hyper redundant manipulator. This manipulator is based on elephant trunk bionics, and composed of several serial links combined by Hook joints. Each link is pulled by two antagonized pairs of cables. Two antagonized pairs belonged to the same link are tied and driven by only one motor, which can reduced largely the number of step motors needed. This paper fully discusses the structure and analyzes the cable stretching and retracting displacement. Analysis and motion simulation results show that the proposed scheme is practical and effective.

We present the design of time parallel trace-driven cache simulation for the purpose of evaluating different cache architectures. Due to the long simulation cycles, traditional sequential simulation methods are no longer practical. An obvious way to achieve fast parallel simulation is time parallel. It splits the whole trace into small slices which are assigned to parallel processors for concurrent simulation. In this paper, we introduce a novel time parallel multiconfiguration simulation on single pass method. It exploits time partitioning as the main sources of parallelism and takes the full advantage of the computational capability offered by the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) on the GPU. Our experimental results demonstrate that the cache simulator based on GPU platform gains 1.91x performance improvement compared to traditional serial algorithm.

Hyperspectral unmixing is a crucial preprocessing step for material classification and recognition. In the last decade, nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) and its extensions have been intensively studied to unmix hyperspectral imagery and recover the material end-members. As an important constraint, sparsity has been modeled making use of L 1 or L 2 regularizers. However, the full additivity constraint of material abundances is often overlooked, hence, limiting the practical efficacy of these methods. In this paper, we extend the NMF algorithm by incorporating the L 1/2 sparsity constraint. The L 1/2 -NMF provides more sparse and accurate results than the other regularizers by considering the end-member additivity constraint explicitly in the optimisation process. Experiments on the synthetic and real hyperspectral data validate the proposed algorithm.

This work presents KUCAS (Known User Continuous Authentication system), a work-in-progress security system, that has a continuous authentication mechanism of users in software application. The KUCAS system makes use of environmental context information, users behavior analysis, the behavior theories of Skinner and the Mathematical Confidence of Dempster-Shafer Evidences Theory, that establishes trust levels to authenticate the user by his behavior analysis, during an application software, in a specific domain of the computer networks, in a period of time. The dynamics of enclosed management in this system compares the current behavior with the user's previous behaviors description and with the trust restrictions. In case of indications of changes in the user's behavior, the system provides the behavior analysis of the user using database restrictions information. If there are uncertainties and divergences, mechanisms of security and alert signals are triggered.

Many techniques have been developed to accelerate micro-architecture simulation since it is becoming increasingly urgent as the complexity of workloads and simulated processors increases. However, most of popular techniques need profiles or trial simulations to determine parameters before real simulations. When the number of dynamic instructions of workloads such as SPEC CPU2006 is huge, the profiles or trial simulations often take a long time. What's worse, any changes of benchmarks need to repeat the above work. This paper proposes a novel approach based on fractals to solve this problem. It employs the generation procedure of trisection Cantor Set, a classic fractal, to select instructions simulated in detail. We implement a simulator named CantorSim using the trisection Cantor fractal approach. The simulator is evaluated with benchmark programs from SPEC CPU2000 and SPEC CPU2006. We show that our approach is micro-architecture independent as the same parameter value for a single program yields similar results on processors with different configurations. The unified analytical model used to determine sampling parameters for different benchmarks indicates the proposed approach can save a lot of time for preparing parameters. On the other hand, for SPEC CPU2000 and SPEC CPU2006, CantorSim is slightly faster than SMARTSim. The validated average CPI relative errors of the SPEC CPU2000 and SPEC CPU2006 are 3.2% and 2.2% respectively. Therefore, our proposed approach can simplify acceleration of simulations significantly without sacrificing speed and accuracy.

This paper investigates gene function annotation of Yeast by using semi-supervised multi-label learning. Multi-label learning has been a hot topic in the bioinformatics field, but there are many samples unlabeled. Semi-supervised learning may be employed to utilize the unlabeled data. This paper proposes a novel semi-supervised multi-label learning algorithm COMN by combining Co-Training with ML-kNN to utilize the unlabeled yeast gene data to improve modeling accuracy of function annotation. Furthermore, an embedded feature selection algorithm PRECOMN is proposed to perform feature selection for COMN to remove the irrelevant and redundant features. Experimental results on one benchmark data set of Yeast show COMN and PRECOMN perform better than the original multi-label learning algorithm ML-kNN. Furthermore PRECOMN improves generalization performance of COMN. Copyright © 2010 ACM.

Thread migration is an effective technique for fault resilience and load balancing in high performance computing. However, flexible thread migration is not easy to achieve. In this paper, we present an approach to creating migratory threads dynamically at application level. The targets must be executable source files. Compared to the static ones, the number of threads created during migration with the new scheme is independent from the context. Various thread cases are considered for migration. Thread state is handled at application level. Variables are saved in structures in C language for speedy state construction. In order to solve the inability of traditional methods in tracking the created threads, a tree of active function calls is used to record the callback. The preprocessor of the proposed one is written in YACC for accuracy and programmability. The migration enabling process is transparent to programmers with the help of the preprocess. The experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach.

Using both the modified supply voltage and body voltage, an optimized keeper technique is presented in this paper to tradeoff the performance of domino OR gates. The simulation results show that the novel technique can highly improve power/speed efficiency and robustness to noise. In addition, because of employment of body biased voltage, the optimized keeper technique enables to minimize effect of the strong process parameter variation.
