A delay-locked loop (DLL) regulated single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) power converter is presented. It takes advantage of the fast phase locking property of a DLL to identify the SIMO converter's regulation errors between the output voltages and their corresponding references. In response to these errors, an adaptive peak current modulation technique is proposed to adjust the instantaneous duty ratios, and thus minimize the regulation errors in the converter. The DLL acquires locking within 350 ns, allowing it to respond to load dynamics promptly, which is very desirable for DVS-enabled power-efficient VLSI systems. The system was designed and simulated in IBM 130-nm CMOS process. Fully transistor-based HSPICE simulations show that, with a 1.8 V nominal input supply, the converter precisely regulates two independent output voltages at 0.9 V and 1.5 V, respectively. It achieves the maximum efficiency of 87.2% at a total power of 104.8 mW and a switching frequency of 500 kHz.

Sinusoidal-phase modulation interferometer is a new type of optical precision measuring instrument with nanometer accuracy real-time surface profile measurement. This paper based on real-time surface profile measurement of sinusoidal-phase modulation interferometry, researched filter theory and phase-interference in real-time measurement systems, its phase error is analyzed, and it discusses the theory of error types and causes of error, error estimation and derived measurement formula . Microdevices have recently been developed by various micromachining technologies such as laser cutting, lithography, etc. PTFE is widely used as a microwave and millimeter-wave material. However, it is known that PTFE is too difficult to process with high precision by conventional machining, or even by laser cutting or electrical discharge machining. It has been reported that PTFE microstructures can be fabricated by direct exposure to synchrotron radiation. In this paper, the SR direct etching of PTFE is introduced and a trial fabrication of millimeter-wave PTFE-filled waveguide by sputter deposition of metal is attempted. © 2009 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

While a network with stationary nodes can provide large capacity in many current wireless systems, a network with mobile users suffers from severe performance degradation. This happens due to quick channel variation and its resulting protocol overheads that are especially large for multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In this paper, we propose a relay-assisted multiuser MIMO downlink system to support highly mobile wireless access. Through a theoretical throughput analysis that explicitly considers the protocol overheads, we show that the MIMO relay significantly enhances the sum throughput of the system.

Trace-driven cache simulation is the most widely used method to evaluate different cache structures. Several techniques have been proposed to reduce the simulation time of sequential trace-driven simulation. An obvious way to achieve fast parallel simulation is to simulate the individual independent sets of a cache concurrently on different compute resources. We propose improvements to current trace-driven simulation methods to make them faster and more economical. This paper considers the use of generic GPU to accelerate cache simulation which exploits set-partitioning as the main source of parallelism. We develop more efficient parallel simulation techniques by introducing more knowledge into the compute unified device architecture (CUDA) on the GPU. Our experimental result shows that the new algorithm can produce performance results for a number of set-associative caches in just a single simulation run and still produce the exact results.

Broadband over Power Line (BPL) technology has garnered significant attention lately due to recent advancements in solid state technologies and channel coding schemes. The successful application of BPL technology for in-home automation and networking has led to suggestions of applying BPL in other systems including ships. The application of BPL technology using the Shipboard Power system (SPS) as a potential communications network for ship automation systems has been proposed, to achieve recent U.S. Navy ship management concepts geared toward reducing ship manning while improving operational efficiency. This paper presents an analytical model developed to examine the channel response characteristics and estimated throughput capacity of SPS cables. The work used a multiconductor transmission line theory based approach to model the channel response of SPS distribution lines and estimated the channel throughput capacity using a ldquowater-fillingrdquo communication technique. This work found that BPL using the SPS cables has a strong potential for use as a communications network for ship automation systems.

Shamir proposed the first (t, n) threshold secret sharing scheme. Shamir's scheme is ideal and perfect. In this paper, we propose two modifications of Shamir's secret sharing scheme. In our first modification, each shareholder keeps both x-coordinate and y-coordinate of a polynomial as private share. In our second modification, dealer uses polynomial with degree larger than the threshold value t to generate shares for a (t, n) threshold scheme. We show that these two modified schemes are ideal and perfect. Using these two modifications, we design a multilevel threshold secret sharing schemes (MTSS). We prove that the proposed scheme is secure. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper proposes an alternative docking charger station for mobile robots. One crucial task in swarm robots scenario is to find low battery robots and recover them. Overcoming this problem requires a versatile mobile charging station that is able to actively locate and charge inactive mobile robots unlike the conventional stationary docking stations. The mobile charger robot should perform independent tasks other than the swarm robots global task. It uses similar communication method with other swarm robots, however new preprogrammed instructions are required to facilitate battery charging task for swarm robots.

With the evolution of mobile devices and networks, and the growing trend of mobile Internet access, rich, multi-player gaming using mobile devices, similar to PC-based Internet games, has tremendous potential and interest. However, the current client-server architecture for PC-based Internet games, where most of the storage and computational burden of the game lies with the client device, does not work with mobile devices, constraining mobile gaming to either downloadable, single player games, or very light non-interactive versions of the rich multi-player Internet games. In this paper, we study a cloud server based approach, termed Cloud Mobile Gaming (CMG), where the burden of executing the gaming engines is put on cloud servers, and the mobile devices just communicate the users' gaming commands to the servers. We analyze the factors affecting the quality of user experience using the CMG approach, including the game genres, video encoding factors, and the conditions of the wireless network. Based on the above analysis, we develop a model for Mobile Gaming User Experience (MGUE), and develop a prototype for real-time measurement of MGUE that can be used in real networks. We validate MGUE model using controlled subjective testing, and then use it to characterize user experience achievable using the CMG approach in wireless networks.
