This paper presents a hardware-efficient autocorrelation scheme for the synchronization of MIMO-OFDM based wireless local area network (WLAN) systems, such as IEEE 802.11n. Carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation for the frequency synchronization requires high complexity autocorrelation operations of many training symbols. In order to reduce the hardware complexity of the MIMO-OFDM synchronization, we propose an efficient correlation scheme based on time-multiplexing technique and the use of reduced samples while preserving the performance. Compared to a conventional architecture, the proposed architecture requires only 27% logic gates and 22% power consumption with acceptable BER performance loss.

In this paper, we propose a low-complexity carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation algorithm for OFDM based wireless LAN, IEEE 802.11a. The complexity of the arctangent operation to calculate the argument of auto-correlation for CFO estimation is reduced by a novel range pointer method. The proposed algorithm estimates fine CFO value first and then based on the fine CFO value, simple criteria is used for the boundary decision of integer CFO estimation. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is slightly better than the conventional method while the computational complexity is reduced by 50%. Furthermore, the proposed method can be easily implemented for the low complex next generation MIMO-OFDM based WLAN systems.

This paper proposes a robust adaptive algorithm for adjusting coefficients of an adaptive filter, which is used in active noise canceller (ANC). The filtered LMS algorithm, which is widely used in digital signal processing, is deployed to reduce the effect of acoustic interference in a noisy environment. In this paper the zero noise output of the proposed one and two stages dual predictive line ANC (DPL-ANC) algorithm, which could be deployed in underground communication system, is presented. A second DPL-ANC using voice activity detection (VAD) to control the updated filter coefficients is also proposed. Evaluation results with real-world underground and noisy speech data exhibit significant improvement on the convergence and the zero noise output of both proposed two stages DPL-ANC.

Caches play a major role in the performance of high speed computer systems. Trace driven simulator is the most widely used method to evaluate cache architectures. However, as the cache design moves to more complicated architectures, along with the size of the trace is becoming larger and larger. Traditional simulation methods are no longer practical due to their long simulation cycles. Several techniques have been proposed to reduce the simulation time of sequential trace driven simulation. This paper considers the use of generic GPU to accelerate cache simulation which exploits set partitioning as the main source of parallelism. We develop more efficient parallel simulation techniques by introducing more knowledge into the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) on the GPU. Our experimental result shows that the new algorithm gains 2.76 times performance improvement compared to traditional CPU based sequential algorithm.

This paper presents a voice activity detection (VAD) algorithm based on the Wavelet Packet Transform and the Teager Energy Operation (TEO) processing. The signal is decomposed into subband signals. We used the multi-resolution analysis property of the Wavelet Transform to extract and analyse time-frequency components corresponding to speech. In order to obtain a parameter called Voice Activity Shape (VAS), we used TEO processing to better distinguish subband signals corresponding to speech. The subband variance values of each TEO signal are summed to obtain the VAS, which is higher in speech regions than in non speech regions. Experimental results show that our VAD perform better than the G729B, particularly in difficult noise conditions and also in the case when the speech sound is passed in a nonlinear communication channel. Experimental results are shown in the case of real speech communications from a spaceship to terrestrial 3G cellular network assuming nonlinear interferences.

In this review, we have discussed about approaches in pathway based microarray analysis. Commonly, there are two approaches in pathway based analysis, Enrichment Score and Supervised Machine Learning. These pathway based approaches usually aim to statistically define significant pathways that related to phenotypes of interest. Firstly we discussed an overview of pathway based microarray analysis and its general flow processes in scoring the pathways, the methods applied in both approaches, advantages and limitations based on current researches, and pathways database used in pathway analysis. This review aim to provide better understanding about pathway based microarray analysis and its approaches.

This paper presents the VLSI design of a multi-mode Reed-Solomon codec. Our decoder design is based on the modified Euclidean (ME) algorithm and shares hardware between the ME algorithm and the computation part of the Chien search. With its ability to support a variety of RS(n, k, t) code parameters (0 les n les 255), (0 les t les 8) as well as different finite fields GF(2 m ), (3 les m les 8), this RS codec design is suitable for use in a reconfigurable baseband processing platform. Synthesis results indicate that this codec operates at a maximum frequency of 177 MHz and has a peak data processing rate of 1416 Mbps.

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the relation between changes in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) during listening to music and the impression of that music. As an indicator of rCBF, the oxygenated hemoglobin concentration (oxy-Hb) was adopted, as measured using near-infrared spectroscopy. In all, eight subjects participated in Experiment 1: we compared effects of music and noise played at three sound pressures. A significant decrease in rCBF was found in most subjects when listening to music at ca. 65 dB. Linear regression of evaluated items of impression against changes in rCBF was conducted, revealing that absorption had the largest coefficient of determination. In Experiment 2, two of the eight subjects compared effects of music of various kinds. Linear regression revealed the same results as Experiment 1, suggesting that some regions near the prefrontal cortex become active when a listener is absorbed in listening to music.

Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is vulnerable to passive monitored attacks because of the specific character of wireless channel. The existing security routing protocols of WMN are all the improved ones based on the original Ad hoc network protocols, so it is necessary to design a new security protocol for the specific character of WMN. In this paper the Onion Ring protocol designed by Lee has been analyzed that it cannot defend against a so-called intersection attack, a new type of attack. Based on this protocol, an improved layered Onion ring protocol is proposed which can defend against this attack effectively. Therefore, the proposed protocol is more secure and effective than the existing one.
