To save time, improve flexibility and guarantee accuracy of the navigation system of the mobile robots, a multi-function landmark and a new navigation algorithm are proposed in this paper. With the new algorithm and landmark the mobile robots can be located by only a single landmark, and can be navigated in a large area by serial landmarks. The simple configuration and the convenient material of the landmark increased the system's flexibility and decreased the complexity of the algorithm. From the experimental results it can be concluded that the navigation system has fast navigation speed and high navigation accuracy.

Thermal behaviors of transformers have a close relationship with the ageing processes of transformer insulation. In oil immersed transformers, feature temperatures such as top-oil temperature and hot spot temperature are recommended to be monitored online. To minimize the risk of failure and to extend the serving life time of transformers, both temperature rises should be controlled within certain range. However, it is difficult to monitor the hot spot temperature of the transformer. Commonly used method is to calculate the rise of the hot spot temperature based on top-oil temperature rise, as recommended in GB/T15164-94 (Chinese standard) and IEEE C57.91. Later on, electrical-thermal analogy models were developed and proved to be accurate in practice. These electrical-thermal models present heat transfer in the transformers as thermal circuits, where each component represents different thermal distribution in the transformers. General model for the thermal circuits were improved by combining fluid transfer theory into the exponential factors. This paper provides an experimental result which was measured from a 5 kV, 100 kVA transformer equipped with fiber optic probes and thermocouples. The paper also summarizes the most often used models for top-oil temperature and especially hot spot temperature calculation. Comments on both models are given in the paper.

This paper presents the particle swarm optimization (PSO) for reactive power and voltage control (Volt/Var Control) in distribution system considering DFIG wind farm. In this paper, the reactive power output of DFIG wind farm has been considered as the control variables in the Volt/Var Control scheme by considering the reactive power compensation capability of DFIG. The minimization of total system real power loss and voltage deviation are utilized as an objective and the PSO is used to determine the reactive power output of DFIG wind farm, tap positions of load tap changer transformers (LTC) and numbers of the capacitor banks. Finally, the proposed scheme is applied to the 33-node distribution system. The results indicate that the proposed Volt/Var control scheme can improve the voltage profiles of distribution networks on a large scale.

Compared to the other types of sensor networks, the wireless camera sensor networks can offer much more comprehensive and accurate information in mobile target tracking applications. We propose a dynamic node collaboration scheme for mobile target tracking in wireless camera sensor networks. Unlike the traditional sensing models, we develop a nonlinear localization-oriented sensing model for camera sensors by taking the perspective projection and the observation noises into account. Based on our sensing model, we apply the sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) technique to estimate the belief state of the target location. In order to implement the SMC based tracking mechanism efficiently, we propose a dynamic node collaboration scheme, which can balance the tradeoff between the quality of tracking and the network cost. Our scheme deploys the dynamic cluster architecture which mainly includes the following two components. First, we design a scheme to elect the cluster heads during the tracking process. Second, we develop an optimization-based algorithm to select an optimal subset of camera sensors as the cluster members for estimating the target location cooperatively. Also conducted is a set of extensive simulations to validate and evaluate our proposed schemes.

This paper addresses the selectivity problem, for the ultra-wide band (UWB), transform-domain receiver loss of orthogonality. A novel selective time-domain direct-sequence front-end for transform-domain ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless local area network (WLAN) receiver is proposed. The architecture comprises a multi-block, linear, dynamic feedback low-noise amplifier (LNA), quadrature mixer, and baseband filter. The dynamic feedback with inductive output load reduces the LNA to a simple second-order filter, with zero at the origin, while improving the conversion gain (CG) and noise figure (NF). Thus, the CG is further maximized when limiting the two poles within the 5-6 GHz frequency band. The mixer, based on a merged quadrature topology, employs single-peak notch network, with benefits to the NF and IIP3 of CG at 5.6 GHz. The front-end dissipates a 19.6 mW from 1.8 V supply voltage and achieves at 5.6 GHz 34.8 dB conversion gain, 6.42 dB NF, and 1-dB gain desensitization with -8 dBm interferer power at 7 GHz. Other simulation results are -2.35 dBm minimum IIIP3, and -35 dBc rejection at the UWB group #3.

With our society more information-driven, we have begun to distribute data in wide-area storage systems. At the same time, both physical failure and logic error have made it difficult to bring the necessary recovery to bear on remote data disaster, and understanding this proceeding. We describe ARRAY, a system architecture for data disaster recovery that combines reliability, storage space, and security to improve performance for data recovery applications. The paper presents an exhaustive analysis of the design space of ARRAY systems, focusing on the trade-offs between reliability, storage space, security, and performance that ARRAY must make. We present RSRAII (Replication-based Snapshot Redundant Array of Independent Imagefiles) which is a configurable RAID-like data erasure-coding, and also others benefits come from consolidation both erasure-coding and replication strategies. A novel algorithm is proposed to improve snapshot performance referred to as SMPDP (Snapshot based on Multi-Parallel Degree Pipeline).

In this paper an approach using the Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) is proposed which allows to locate the defective elements in an antenna array. A cost function has been proposed using the array factor of the defected array that can lead to the location of the defective antenna elements in the array. Complete fault as well as partial fault elements are considered in the formulation. Although in this paper the formulation has been developed for linear array, it can easily be extended to case of a planar array.

In ad hoc networks, when the load is heavy, the performance of on-demand routing protocols, such as DSR protocol, will suffer large degradation. For instance, the absence of balanced distribution of network flow among nodes in the whole network is highly prone to producing heavy-load key nodes. This results in fast energy consumption of these key nodes, and finally decreasing the survival time of the network caused by their premature failures. To address this problem, a novel algorithm called cross-layer based load balancing algorithm for DSR (CLB-DSR) is proposed. In CLB-DSR, the cross-layer strategy is adopted to exchange the information between data link layer and network layer. Simulation results show that the improved routing protocol using CLB-DSR can effectively balance network load, improve the network throughput and reduce the end-to-end delay, the rate of data dropped.
