One hurdle to using peer-to-peer networks as anonymizing networks is churn. Node churn makes anonymous paths fragile and short-lived: failures of a relay node disrupt the path, resulting in message loss and communication failures. To make anonymous routing resilient to node failures, we use a simple yet powerful idea based on message redundancy by erasure coding and path redundancy to mask node failures. We present an allocation of erasure-coded message segments among multiple paths that provides a guideline on how to maximize routing resilience upon different node availabilities in real-world systems. Our approach allows a tradeoff between routing resilience and bandwidth usage. We show that our approach greatly improves routing resilience while only incurring a moderate bandwidth overhead

This paper discusses the relationship among the magneto-resistance (MR), magnetic properties, and microstructure of the Co-Au granular alloy prepared by pulsed electrochemical deposition. It is shown that MR ratio of the Co-Au single layer (100 nm) film deposited at the current density of 5 mA/cm2 increases with increasing Co concentration in the film and reaches a maximum of 4.4% at 40 at %Co. It is observed that both the MR ratio and grain sizes in the films are dependent on the current density values.

This paper presents a shape prediction algorithm in a noisy video sequence based on pixel representation in the undecimated wavelet domain. In our algorithm for tracking of user-defined shapes in a noisy sequence of images, the amplitude of coefficients in the best basis tree expansion of the undecimated wavelet packet transform are used as feature vectors (FVs). FVs robustness against noise has been achieved through inherent denoising and edge component separation in the best basis selection algorithm. The algorithm uses these FVs to track the pixels of small square blocks located at the vicinity of the object boundary. Searching for the best-matched block has been performed using conventional block matching algorithm in the wavelet domain. Our experimental results show that the algorithm is robust to noise in case of object's shape translation, rotation and/or scaling and can be used to track both rigid and non-rigid shapes in image sequences

A partitioning scheme for transient simulation of shipboard power systems (SPS) is presented. Using diakoptics, the piecewise transient solution to a ungrounded AC-radial (3phi) ring-bus system is found. Cable tie-lines (floating pi-segments) on the SPS ring are converted to hexagon equivalents by discretization and decoupled via source-transportation, diakoptics, and exploiting mutual-susceptance links. Transient simulation results from circuit simulation (as a whole) and via diakoptics (piecewise) are compared and discussed.

The Korteweg-Helmholtz electric and magnetic force densities for quasistatic systems including the Coulomb-Lorentz force density on free charge and free currents; polarization and magnetization force densities; and electrostriction and magnetostriction force densities are derived from Poynting's theorem. In this derivation, stationary frame linear constitutive laws are used for dielectric, magnetic, and ohmic conducting media with dielectric permittivity epsiv(rho) and magnetic permeability mu( rho), which can be functions of mass density rho, itself a function of position and time, and sigma is the ohmic conductivity which can be space and time varying. Using the quasistatic Galilean transformations for electric and magnetic field variables with conservation of mass and Poynting's theorem, results give a modified Poynting vector, differing from the usual Emacr times Hmacr by a compressibility term, but with the usual electroquasistatic and magnetoquasistatic energy densities, power dissipation density, and Korteweg-Helmholtz force densities straight forwardly derived.

A structure of logical hierarchical cluster for the distributed multimedia on demand server is proposed. The architecture is mainly composed of the network topology and the resource management of all server nodes. Instead of the physical network hierarchy or the independent management hierarchy, the nodes are organized into a logically hieraxchical cluster according to the multimedia block they caches in the midderware layer. The process of a member joining/leaving or the structure adjustment cooperatively implemented by all members is concerned with decentralized maintenance of the logical cluster hierarchy. As the root of each logically hierarchical cluster is randomly mapped into the system, the logical structure of a multimedia block is dynamically expanded across some regions by the two replication policies in different load state respectively. The local load diversion is applied to fine-tune the load of nodes within a local region but belongs to different logical hierarchies. Guaranteed by the dynamic expansion of a logical structure and the load diversion of a local region, the users always select a closest idle node from the logical hierarchy under the condition of topology integration with resource management.
