This paper presents a new generalized particle model approach of price and demands dynamic modulating for network bandwidth allocation. The approach transforms the complicated network bandwidth allocation problem into the kinematics and dynamics of numerous link particles in force-field. The generalized particle model approach of dynamically modulating price and demands is featured by the powerful processing ability under complex environment, the market mechanism between the demands and service, and better adapting ability to the real time variation of network environment. Finally, we demonstrate the corresponding parallel algorithm and its simulations on bandwidth allocation

This paper presents a new code structure and its ability in supporting multiple transmission rates in point to point spectral amplitude coding-optical code division multiple access (SAC-OCDMA) links. The double-weight (DW) code family that has a basic fixed weight of 2 was proposed. Modified double weight (MDW) code is a DW code family variation that has variable weight of greater than two. The ability of MDW codes to support simultaneous transmissions at different bit rates is shown through simulated results of the bit error rate (BER) and the eye patterns. Four MDW encoded channels were used at the bit rates of 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps. MDW code shown here significantly performs better than Hadamard and modified frequency hopping (MFH) codes.

In this paper, we consider the problem of designing nonlinear robust formation controllers on a team of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) using off-the-shelf autopilots. Two nonlinear robust formation control algorithms are presented. The first controller requires knowledge of the leader’s velocity and acceleration. The second controller, on the other hand, does not have such a requirement. Additionally, the desired trajectory for the follower UAV is generated by a perturbation-based extremum-seeking (ES) controller. With these algorithms, two formation flight objectives have been achieved: (i) a reduction of communication overhead, and (ii) a maximum energy saving mission flight. Numerical simulations validate the performance of the proposed control methodology.

In this paper, a framework for replacing missing values in a database is proposed since a real-world database is seldom complete. Good data quality in a database can directly improve the performance of any data mining algorithm in various applications. Our proposed framework adopts the basic concepts from conditional probability theories and further develops an algorithm to facilitate the capability of handling both nominal and numerical values, which addresses the problem of the inability of handling both nominal and numerical values with a high degree of accuracy in the existing algorithms. Several experiments are conducted and the experimental results demonstrate that our framework provides a high accuracy when compared with most of the commonly used algorithms such as using the average value, using the maximum value, and using the minimum value to replace missing values.

Stochastic generation is expected to take a large share of the energy production in future power systems. Two basic features of this type of generation distinguish it from the traditional centralized, conventional generation: it is highly distributed (large number of small-scale generators) and non-dispatchable (use of an uncontrolled prime mover). The incorporation of such power sources in the lower system levels leads to a new horizontal structure of the power system, where the distribution networks contain both uncertain stochastic generation and load. For the analysis of such systems, the use of a probabilistic approach is necessary. There are two basic problems with the probabilistic formulation of this problem: the large number of random variables involved in the analysis and the presence of complex dependencies between the system inputs. In this contribution, a two-step method is presented for the stochastic modeling of the system: first, clusters of positively correlated variables are defined and modeled based on the concepts of perfect correlation (comonotonicity), and then the exact correlations between these clusters are modeled based on a new proposed technique, the joint normal transform methodology. This powerful computational method can be easily applied to large systems with a high number of stochastic generators. The proposed method has been implemented and applied for the 5-bus/7-branch test system (Hale network) with a high penetration of wind generation. The results are presented in the paper

This paper proposes an improved investment priority decision method of the facilities considering the reliability of distribution networks. The proposed method decides an investment order of the facilities combining, by fuzzy rules, the investment priority decision by KEPCO and it by reliability evaluation indices. Where reliability evaluation indices are SAIFI(system Average Interruption Frequency Index) and SAIDI(system Average Interruption Duration Index). The reliability analysis method of distribution networks applied in this paper utilizes analytic method, where the used reliability data is historical data of KEPCO. Particularly, we assumed that the failure rate increased as the equipment ages. To verify the performance of the proposed method, we applied it with the planned projects to reinforce the weak facility electrical facilities in KEPCO in 2004. The evaluation result showed that, under a limited budget, the reliability of the KEPCO in the Busan region using the proposed method could be enhanced than using the conventional KEPCO's method. Therefore, the results verify the proposed method can be efficiently used in the actual priorities method for investing the electrical facilities. © 2005 IEEE.

In this paper, a neural network based framework for semantic event detection in soccer videos is proposed. The framework provides a robust solution for soccer goal event detection by combining the strength of multimodal analysis and the ability of neural network ensembles to reduce the generalization error. Due to the rareness of the goal events, the bootstrapped sampling method on the training set is utilized to enhance the recall of goal event detection. Then a group of component networks are trained using all the available training data. The precision of the detection is greatly improved via the following two steps. First, a pre-filtering step is employed on the test set to reduce the noisy and inconsistent data, and then an advanced weighting scheme is proposed to intelligently traverse and combine the component network predictions by taking into consideration the prediction performance of each network. A set of experiments are designed to compare the performance of different bootstrapped sampling schemes, to present the strength of the proposed weighting scheme in event detection, and to demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework for soccer goal event detection.

In order to manage the whole network, a novel traffic model is proposed based the active probe method. The core of the model has three parts: first, we measure the routing probability matrix by injecting a probe packet train into the network based on the Internet protocol measurement protocol (IPMP) by the Poisson law. Second, we use a passive measurement method to acquire sd traffic. Last, we can compute link traffic by means of network tomography. We prove the validity of the edge measurement method. Our computing results show the competing link traffic error within about 30% by the edge measurement model.
