This paper proposes a novel reliable multicast transport protocol for multi-hop, wireless ad hoc networks (or MANETs). To recover from the different types of losses that may occur in MANETs, our Reliable Adaptive Congestion-controlled Transport protocol, or ReACT, combines source-based congestion- and error control with receiver initiated localized recovery. While the latter attempts to recover localized losses (e.g., caused by transmission errors), the former is invoked only for losses and congestion that could not be recovered locally (e.g., caused by global congestion). Loss differentiation is an important component of ReACT and uses medium access control (MAC) layer information to distinguish between different types of losses. Through extensive simulations, we evaluate ReACT's performance under a variety of MANET scenarios, including different offered load and mobility conditions, and compare it against a strictly end-to-end (i.e., no localized recovery) scheme. Our results show that ReACT is the best performer in terms of reliability. Our results also showcase the effect of ReACT's local recovery mechanism which quickly corrects error-and path breakage induced losses and thus manages to prevent the source from reducing its rate unnecessarily, thus achieving significant throughput improvement with lower overhead when compared to the strictly end-to-end protocol. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2004.

Network Service Provider(NSP)s make much effort to provide the flexible and cost effective Operations Support system(OSS)s, so as to adapt to changing customer requirements and market opportunities rapidly. Afterward, they could provide better services at a lower cost, of reducing the time to market, of improving and customizing their relationships with customers and, ultimately, of increasing customer satisfaction and the company's profits. These objectives push NSPs into continuously improving the business processes for services. Workflaw Management technology accomplishes above the demands by modeling, redesign and execution of business processes. Especially workflow time management is important to timely schedule workflow process execution, to avoid deadline violations, and to improve the workflow turn-around times. We propose the timed workflow management with OSS-SDM(Service Delivery Management system) for cross domain Internet Access Service delivery to manage the service installation at low cost and to deliver the Internet services efficiently by choosing and using appropriate provisioning models over access network models in Internet service environments. With the proposed idea, NSPs can save lots of expenses and complete the service delivery without any physical works just by the automatic service activation of the provisioned access equipment ports on the time that the customers request.

An architecture design of the intelligent agent for speech recognition and translation is presented in this paper. The design involves the agent architecture and the method of the agent is used. The architecture design shows the relationship between the intelligent agent and speech recognition also translation. The intelligent agent for speech recognition is called S-AGENT and T-AGENT for translation. The purpose of the S-AGENT is to facilitate for transmitting the speech data via Internet or network. The S-AGENT is acting as a data transmit control to ensure the transmitted speech data is securely delivered. The task of the T-AGENT is different from the S-AGENT. The T-AGENT is acting as information retrieval. It processes the output from the speech recognition and translates the output based on its information memory database. If the information cannot be found on its memory, it searches the information required from the database dictionary provided. At the same time, it learns the information and saves the information to its memory for the future purpose.

Computational power optimization is crucial in the battery power limited secure wireless mobile networks. Therefore, in this paper, we (a) introduce a hardware/software set-up to measure and model the battery power consumption of different encryption algorithms through real-life experimentation and (b) compute optimal power (number of rounds) allocation for encrypting packets such that the constraints on power and security are met. We present the results for three block ciphers: DES, IDEA, and COST though the same analysis can be extended to the other ciphers such as AES, RC4, etc. A new measure called "vulnerability" that quantifies the success of linear cryptanalysis attack is proposed and its relationship with the power consumption is explored. Two mathematical optimization problems are then posed: (a) compute the optimal power allocation to encrypt each packet such that the vulnerability is minimized subject to a total power constraint and (b) to compute the optimal number of encryption rounds for each packet such that a total power constraint is met. The differences in these two formulations are presented. A closed form solution to the first problem is derived while the second optimization formulation is posed as an integer program and is solved numerically. Several numerical results are also provided.

We demonstrate, for the first time, a novel high-kκ AlN capacitor that is program-erasable at voltages of +4 or -4 V and that has good retention for 1T1C memory. These features are not shown by Al2O3, or other capacitors that use only a single high-κ dielectric layer. Good data retention is shown with a threshold shift of only 0.06V after +± 4V program/erase for 104 sec. ©2004 IEEE.

This paper proposes two methods for identifying recognition error. The first method is a two-level schema - given the recognition hypothesis of an utterance, an utterance classifier (UC) is first applied to decide if the hypothesis is error-free or erroneous; followed by a word classifier (WC) which is applied to each word hypothesis in the erroneous utterance to decide if the word hypothesis is a misrecognition. The second method is a one-level schema in which a word classifier is applied directly to all word hypotheses to detect word recognition errors. We compare the two methods at both word and utterance levels. Experimental results show that the two methods are comparable in terms of word error detection. However, the two-level schema is very effective in filtering out error-free utterance hypotheses, which offers a key advantage to economize on word error detection.

A joint channel adaptive rate control and randomized scheduling algorithm based on learning automata (LA) K. S. Narendra et al., (1989)is presented. The scheduling is performed at the medium access control (MAC) layer whereas the rate selection takes place at the physical/link (PHY/LINK) layer. The two components residing in the two layers exchange minimal amount of information and adaptively achieve the best throughput and desired quality of service (QoS) in terms of average transmission rates in the prevailing channel conditions. Scheduling is carried out by a LA of continuous reward penalty variate, and a discrete pursuit reward inaction (DPRI) type B. J. Oommen et al., (1990) is used for adaptive rate selection. While simple to implement, this technique requires no explicit channel estimation phase. The only feedback required are the single bit ACK signal indicating the correct reception of packets. As shown in the convergence theorems, the algorithm achieves optimal performance in "stationary'" channels. With slowly varying channels, the MCS selection algorithm sees a "quasistationary" channel and adaptively converges to the optimality. Simulation results are provided for parameters as per to HSDPA standard.

Adaptive algorithms are increasingly acknowledged in leading parallel and distributed research. In the past, algorithms were manually tuned to be executed efficiently on a particular architecture. However, interest has shifted towards algorithms that can adapt themselves to the computational resources. A cost model representing the behavior of the system (i.e. system parameters) and the algorithm (i.e algorithm parameters) plays an important role in adaptive parallel algorithms. In this paper, we contribute a computational model based on Bulk Synchronous Parallel processing that predicts performance of a parallelized split-step Fourier transform. We extracted the system parameters of a cluster (upon which our algorithm was executed) and showed the use of an algorithmic parameter in the model that exhibits optimal behavior. Our model can thus be used for the purpose of self-adaption.
