MLPFormer: MLP-integrated transformer for colorectal histopathology whole slide image segmentation

Colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer, which is mainly diagnosed using pathological images. According to the characteristics of lesions, precancerous lesions can be classified into four different grades, i.e., background, normal, low and high level. However, due to the continuity of lesion development, tissue in different stages has high similarity. Recently, visual transformers have achieved impressive results in different visual tasks, due to their capacity of capturing long-range dependencies. However, due to computational cost, transformer cannot well extract detailed feature, which is important for lesion grading. To accurately segment pathological tissues with high similarity, in this work, we embed the multi-head MLP mixer module in the transformer network to extract cell and edge information. Furthermore, we propose a hierarchical MLP decoder to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion. The proposed transformer, namely MLPFormer, achieves remarkable results against competitive baselines on the Histo-CRC Biopsy dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that MLPFormer significantly outperforms the competitive baselines, i.e., a 3% dice improvement is achieved over the SegFormer series. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Performance Design of High-Temperature Chloride Salts as Thermal Energy Storage Material

The chloride salts have great potential used as high-temperature thermal energy storage(TES) medium for the concentrated solar power *** this study,LiCl,KCl and CaCl_(2) were selected as energy storage materials in order to further broaden the working temperature of ternary chloride salt and improve its energy storage *** new high-temperature energy storage ternary chloride composed of LiCl,KCl,and CaCl_(2) was developed based on the phase diagram generated by *** components of LiCl-KCl-CaCl_(2) with the mass ratio of 37.85%-53.38%-8.77%,30.90%-13.82%-55.28% and 1.78%-18.61%-79.61% were developed,of which the corresponding melting temperature(T_(m)) 340.93,433.57 and 626.85℃,respectively,was obtained *** that T_(m) of the third group of salts was too high,only the first two groups of salts were *** test showed that the actual melting point was only 0.46% and 1.64% different from the melting point predicted by *** thermal properties of the two ternary chloride salts were also *** solid and liquid-specific heat of ternary salts was determined by DSC using sapphire as the standard *** vapor pressure and decomposition temperature of ternary chloride salts were *** results showed that the vapor pressure of salt 1 was almost constant below 650℃ by ***,the TG results showed that the upper working temperature of salt 1 was 650℃ under the air *** addition,the ternary chloride salts after short-term cycling still exhibited excellent thermal properties,which revealed that these good thermal properties make them have broad application prospects in high-temperature thermal energy storage systems.

The systolic array (SA) architecture is widely used in accelerator/AI chip design due to its excellent matrix multiplication acceleration effect. However, the mismatch between the traditional sparse matrix compression format and the SA architecture results in poor SA performance in computing sparse matrices. To solve the problem, we propose a method for co-designing the sparse compression format and SA architecture. This work proposes the Vector Group Compressed Coordinate (VGCC) data stream compression format and designs a sparse SA architecture based on hardware encoding and decoding. VGCC can handle data streams of any size without increasing the index bit width. The VGCC compression size is significantly smaller than general sparse compression formats such as COO/CSR. In a sparse matrix with a sparsity of 90%, it saves 67.13% of storage space compared to the state-of-the-art ECOO data stream compression format and achieves an average acceleration of 1.54 times. We also propose a VGCC-friendly SA architecture. Our SA architecture engine reduces logic consumption by 51.6% compared to Sparse TPU while achieving a 3.23x speedup. To mitigate the issue of high no-load rates in systolic arrays, we introduce a Data Transmission Priority (DTP) data matching algorithm. With sparsity levels ranging from 50% to 90%, the algorithm’s calculation speed is enhanced by 1.124x to 1.991x. We implemented a sparse DNN accelerator on an FPGA Zynq UltraScale+MPSoC ZCU102, utilizing the VGCC compression format proposed in this study for compressing input data. When compared to the S2 Engine, the accelerator achieved a 3.37x speed improvement in matrix multiplication with 75% sparsity, significantly enhancing the speed of sparse matrix multiplication. Aptamers are single-stranded DNA or RNA oligonucleotides that selectively bind to specific targets, making them valuable for drug design and diagnostic applications. Identifying the interactions between aptamers and target proteins is crucial for these applications. The systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment process, traditionally used for this purpose, is challenging and time-consuming. The resulting aptamers often suffer from limitations in stability and diversity. Computational approaches have shown promise in aiding the discovery of high-performance aptamers, but existing methods are usually constrained by insufficient training data and limited generalizability. Recently, advancements in pre-training large language models have offered a new avenue to mitigate the dependency on large datasets. In this study, we propose a novel method to predict aptamer-protein interactions using large language models within a contrastive learning framework. Experimental results demonstrate that our method exhibits superior generalization and outperforms existing approaches. This method holds promise as a powerful tool for predicting aptamer-protein interactions. © 2024 IEEE.

This work presents an adaptive tracking guidance method for robotic fishes. The scheme enables robots to suppress external interference and eliminate motion jitter. An adaptive integral surge line-of-sight guidance rule is designed to eliminate dynamics interference and sideslip issues. Limited-time yaw and surge speed observers are reported to fit disturbance variables in the model. The approximation values can compensate for the system's control input and improve the robots' tracking ***, this work develops a terminal sliding mode controller and third-order differential processor to determine the rotational torque and reduce the robots' run jitter. Then, Lyapunov's theory proves the uniform ultimate boundedness of the proposed method. Simulation and physical experiments confirm that the technology improves the tracking error convergence speed and stability of robotic fishes.

Drug discovery is an expensive and risky process. To combat the challenges in drug discovery, an increasing number of researchers and pharmaceutical companies recognize the benefits of utilizing computational techniques. Evolutionary computation (EC) offers promise as most drug discovery problems are essentially complex optimization problems beyond conventional optimization algorithms. EC methods have been widely applied to solve these complex optimization problems especially in lead com-pound generation and molecular virtual evaluation, substantially speeding up the process of drug discovery and development. This article presents a comprehensive survey of EC-based drug discovery methods. Particularly, a new taxonomy of the methods is provided and the advantages and limitations of the methods are reviewed. In addition, the potential future directions of EC-based drug discovery are discussed and the publicly available resources including databases and computational tools are compiled for the convenience of researchers seeking to pursue this field. Two Stages Segmentation Algorithm of Breast Tumor in DCE-MRI Based on Multi-Scale Feature and Boundary Attention Mechanism

Nuclearmagnetic resonance imaging of breasts often presents complex *** tumors exhibit varying sizes,uneven intensity,and indistinct *** characteristics can lead to challenges such as low accuracy and incorrect segmentation during tumor ***,we propose a two-stage breast tumor segmentation method leveraging multi-scale features and boundary attention ***,the breast region of interest is extracted to isolate the breast area from surrounding tissues and ***,we devise a fusion network incorporatingmulti-scale features and boundary attentionmechanisms for breast tumor *** incorporate multi-scale parallel dilated convolution modules into the network,enhancing its capability to segment tumors of various sizes through multi-scale convolution and novel fusion ***,attention and boundary detection modules are included to augment the network’s capacity to locate tumors by capturing nonlocal dependencies in both spatial and channel ***,a hybrid loss function with boundary weight is employed to address sample class imbalance issues and enhance the network’s boundary maintenance capability through additional *** was evaluated using breast data from 207 patients at RuijinHospital,resulting in a 6.64%increase in Dice similarity coefficient compared to the *** results demonstrate the superiority of the method over other segmentation techniques,with fewer model parameters.
