Fruit harvesting poses a significant labor and financial burden on the fruit industry, which underscore the urgent need for advancements in robotic harvesting solutions. Despite considerable progress in leveraging deep learning and machine learning techniques for fruit detection, a common shortfall is the inability to swiftly extend the developed models across different orchards and/or various fruit species. Additionally, the limited availability of pertinent data further compounds these challenges. In this work, we introduce MetaFruit, the largest publicly available multi-class fruit dataset, comprising 4,248 images and 248,015 manually labeled instances across diverse U.S. orchards. Furthermore, this study proposes an innovative open-set fruit detection system leveraging advanced Vision Foundation Models (VFMs) for fruit detection that can adeptly identify a wide array of fruit types under varying orchard conditions. This system not only demonstrates remarkable adaptability in learning from minimal data through few-shot learning but also shows the ability to interpret human instructions for subtle detection tasks. The performance of the developed foundation model is comprehensively evaluated across several metrics, outperforming existing state-of-the-art algorithms in our MetaFruit, thereby setting a new benchmark in the field of agricultural technology and robotic harvesting. The MetaFruit dataset (https://***/datasets/jiajiali/metafruit) and detection framework (https://***/JiajiaLi04/FMFruit) are open-sourced to foster future research in vision-based fruit harvesting, marking a significant stride toward addressing the urgent needs of the agricultural sector. © 2024 ASABE Annual International Meeting. VARIATIONAL AUTO-ENCODER BASED SOLUTIONS TO INTERACTIVE DYNAMIC INFLUENCE DIAGRAMS

Addressing multiagent decision problems in AI, especially those involving collaborative or competitive agents acting concurrently in a partially observable and stochastic environment, remains a formidable challenge. While Interactive Dynamic Influence Diagrams (I-DIDs) have offered a promising decision framework for such problems, they encounter limitations when the subject agent encounters unknown behaviors exhibited by other agents that are not explicitly modeled within the I-DID. This can lead to sub-optimal responses from the subject agent. In this paper, we propose a novel data-driven approach that utilizes an encoder-decoder architecture, particularly a variational autoencoder, to enhance I-DID solutions. By integrating a perplexity-based tree loss function into the optimization algorithm of the variational autoencoder, coupled with the advantages of Zig-Zag One-Hot encoding and decoding, we generate potential behaviors of other agents within the I-DID that are more likely to contain their true behaviors, even from limited interactions. This new approach enables the subject agent to respond more appropriately to unknown behaviors, thus improving its decision quality. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in two well-established problem domains, highlighting its potential for handling multi-agent decision problems with unknown behaviors. Edge intelligent computing is often combined with the tasks of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Most applications of UAV require the location and identity information of human targets. Traditional human target detection and face recognition algorithms require a lot of time in edge intelligent computing. In addition, the final recognition result is not accurate enough. To this end, this paper proposes an improved YOLOV5-Cozy target detection algorithm to detect human targets and faces in a fast and accurate way. The algorithm uses MobileNetV3, depthwise separable convolution and shuffleconv to improve the original YOLOV5 (You Only Look Once version 5) algorithm. Compared with the original algorithm, the improved algorithm has an average detection accuracy drop of less than 5%, and its calculation time has been reduced by 20%. In terms of face recognition, we use the FaceNet algorithm with the addition of a face augmentation module. The module enhances the face recognition ability of the FaceNet algorithm in different environments, and the accuracy of face recognition has increased by 20%. We implement the proposed algorithm on the embedded computer Jetson Agx Xavier for UAV edge intelligent computing, and the average FPS achieves at about 23.6. © 2021 IEEE.

Database watermarking plays an irreplaceable role in copyright authentication and data integrity protection, but the robustness of the watermark and the resulting data distortion are a pair of contradictory objects that cannot be ignored. To solve this problem, a reversible database watermarking method, named IGADEW, is proposed to balance the relationship between them. The biggest difference from previous research is that IGADEW synthesizes the optimization objects and obtain various parameters through genetic algorithm (GA). Second, the fitness function considers the weights of robustness and distortion, aiming to find the optimal balance between the two. IGADEW uses the Hash-based Message Authentication Code (HMAC) algorithm to encrypt the experimental parameters and uses the primary key hash algorithm for data grouping, both to ensure robustness. And the data distortion is limited with the help of threshold constraints. Finally, experiments using the UCI dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of IGADEW. Experimental results show that, compared with existing methods, IGADEW is more robust against common attacks, with lower data distortion.

In this work, phase apodized silicon Bragg grating filters with varying sidewall ridge width and location were investigated, while the resonance wavelength, extinction ratio and rejection bandwidth can be tuned flexibly. The grating filters with a waveguide width of 500 nm and grating period of 400 nm were fabricated and characterized for a proof of concept. The presented sidewall ridge modulated apodized grating can be expected to have great application prospects for optical communications and semiconductor lasers.

DPP-HSS: Towards Fast and Scalable Hypervolume Subset Selection for Many-objective Optimization

Hypervolume subset selection (HSS) has received significant attention since it has a strong connection with evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO), such as environment selection and post-processing to identify representative solutions for decision-makers. The goal of HSS is to find the optimal subset that maximizes the hypervolume indicator subject to a given cardinality constraint. However, existing HSS algorithms or related methods are not efficient in achieving good performance in high-dimensional objective spaces. This is primarily because HSS problems become NP-hard when the number of objectives exceeds two, and the calculation of hypervolume contribution is very time-consuming. To efficiently solve HSS problems while maintaining a good solution quality, we propose a fast and scalable hypervolume subset selection method for many-objective optimization based on the determinantal point process (DPP), named DPP-HSS, which is fully free of hypervolume contribution calculation. Specifically, DPP-HSS constructs a hypervolume kernel matrix by extracting the convergence and diversity representations of each solution for a given HSS problem. This matrix is then used to build a DPP model. Subsequently, the original HSS problem is reformulated as a new maximization optimization problem based on the constructed model. A greedy DPP-based hypervolume subset selection algorithm is implemented to solve this transformed problem. Extensive experiments show that the proposed DPP-HSS achieves significant speedup and good hypervolume performance in comparison with state-of-the-art HSS algorithms on benchmark problems. Furthermore, DPP-HSS demonstrates very good scalability with respect to the number of objectives. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Video classification is a challenging task because of the intricate spatiotemporal information present within videos. Current models often rely on 2D or 3D convolutional neural networks. However, convolutional neural networks are difficult to solve the long-range dependency problem. In addition, they are computationally expensive and memory-intensive. To address the challenges, a Multi-layer Transformer is proposed for video classification. The proposed method takes advantage of the high correlation between adjacent frames by grouping them and learning local and global information with a multi-layer structure based on Transformer. First, different frame sampling rates and grouping strategies are tested in the experiments, then comparing the method with state-of-The-Art models. The results demonstrate that the proposed method has advanced performance with TOP1 accuracy of 77.8% on the Kinetics-400 dataset and 64.9% on the Something-Something v2 dataset. © 2023 IOS Press. This paper investigates the operational strategy for real-time optimal active power control of large-scale wind-PV-battery hybrid system. The MPC strategy is established with objective, forecast models and constraints for active power control of wind-PV-battery hybrid system, which simultaneously maximizes tracking accuracy and minimizes settling time. To guarantee the industrial reliability, the corresponding optimization solver and control architecture have been specifically developed and designed. Hardware-in-loop(HIL) experiments are conducted using the real-time digital simulator(RTDS) and programmable logic controllers(PLCs). Under different operating scenarios, HIL-RTDS testing results demonstrate that the MPC strategy significantly improves the tracking speed and accuracy compared to the conventional strategy in both normal and abnormal operating scenarios, which also sustain the feasibility of industrial implementation.

Topic shift detection aims to identify whether there is a change in the current topic of conversation or if a change is needed. The study found previous work did not evaluate the performance of large language models like ChatGPT on the task of topic shift. Therefore, this paper's main task and innovation lie in analyzing ChatGPT's performance on topic shift detection. To provide a more comprehensive evaluation, we conducted topic shift detection tasks on ChatGPT from three aspects: single utterances, adjacent utterances, and contextual levels. Additionally, to gauge the performance of large language models, we conducted experiments on multiple small-scale models and compared the results of the two models. Experimental results on the publicly available English TIAGE dataset showed that small-scale models exhibited lower recall in all three aspects, while ChatGPT performed better in the recall. This suggests that compared to small-scale models, large models are more capable of accurately detecting topic shifts. However, large models also exhibited lower precision, indicating that while ChatGPT can recognize content differences in utterances, its judgment on whether these different contents belong to the same topic is poor. © 2024 IEEE.

Assessing ankle joint power during real-life scenarios is crucial for analyzing human push-off and detecting abnormal gait patterns. However, traditional joint power monitoring methods require expensive and professional equipment, limiting their use to gait laboratories. To address this limitation, we propose a portable and robust two-stage approach that estimates ankle joint power using two inertial measurement units (IMU) sensors placed on the shank and foot, respectively. Our subject-independent CNN model accurately assessed ankle joint power during flat and inclined walking across 28 walking speeds and 6 ramp inclines. This solution facilitates ankle joint power assessment outside of gait laboratories and could serve as a foundation to enable gait abnormality evaluation in patients in hospitals, clinics, and home-based settings.
