Software systems often encounter various errors or exceptions in practice, and thus proper error handling code is essential to ensure the reliability of software systems. Unfortunately, error handling code is often bug-prone, while sufficiently testing them is challenging as such code often cannot be triggered under normal conditions. Motivated by this, recent studies have proposed to leverage software fault injection (SFI) based fuzzing to discover potential bugs in complicated error handling code. Despite the promising results achieved, their effectiveness and efficiency are still compromised in practice due to the huge search space of error sites, inadequate fuzzing guidance, and the overhead induced by context-sensitive SFI. To achieve effective and efficient testing of error handling code, this study presents AFL-FI, which first utilizes a similarity-based method to identify suspicious error sites, and then incorporates the idea of error site coverage to guide the fuzzing process. Finally, the design of lightweight context-sensitive SFI enables AFL-FI to execute test cases efficiently. We evaluate AFL-FI on eight large-scale open-source projects, and the results show that it can outperform existing state-of-the-art fuzzing tools significantly in terms of branch code coverage. More importantly, AFL-FI has discovered 13 previously unknown bugs, and all of them have been confirmed while 12 of them have been fixed. Besides, our evaluation also demonstrates that all the key designs of AFL- F I are effective that contribute significantly to its overall performance.

Virtual-Source and Virtual-Swarm-Based Particle Swarm Optimizer for Large-Scale Multi-Source Location via Robot Swarm

Multi-source location is a significant application in the field of robot swarm and is required to find all sources whose number and distribution are unknown in advance. With few parameters and fast search, Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO) variants that have certain grouping capability have been applied to address multi-source location problems by dividing a swarm such that every source has robots to locate. However, they are difficult to predetermine the exact number of groups, require a big number of robots, and are easily trapped in the no-signal areas when the proportion of no-signal areas is high. This work proposes a Virtual-source and Virtual-swarm-based PSO (VVPSO) to divide a search area into multiple cells equally, each of which has a virtual source in its center. Then, instead of robots grouping, only one group of robots is employed to traverse all virtual sources, and search their corresponding cells to locate real sources by a new PSO called Real-virtual mapping PSO (RMPSO). RMPSO asymmetrically maps a robot into a particle swarm with multiple virtual particles to perform PSO, which greatly reduces the requirements for the number of robots. Experimental results show that VVPSO has great search scalability and can solve large-scale multi-source location problems than two state-of-the-art grouping methods and three representative multimodal PSO variants, even with only one robot. In order to guarantee the frequency security and stability of the power system with high proportional of wind generation, virtual inertia control techniques are gradually being promoted and applied. However, there is still a lack of methods and techniques to accurately estimate the equivalent virtual inertia of wind farms in real time, which makes it difficult to quantitatively evaluate the effect of virtual inertia control and to dynamically monitor the inertia level of power systems. Therefore, in this paper, an AR model with eXogenous input is applied to the time-varying characteristics of the virtual inertia of wind farm, and a recursive least squares identification algorithm based on a fuzzy control algorithm with an adaptive forgetting factor is proposed to estimate the virtual inertia of wind farms online. The proposed identification model and solution algorithm have superior tracking ability and good convergence. All that is required is to obtain perturbation data on the frequency and active power of the point of common coupling from the phasor measurement unit. A case study is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

The large-scale integration of renewable energies brings about low inertia characteristics to the power system, and the frequency security faces greater challenges. The existing inertia research lacks the synergy between different types of inertia sources and different control methods, and the inertia response capability of power system still can be improved. In this paper, with the aim of proposing a virtual inertia cooperative control strategy for the power system with high penetration of renewable energies, we analyze the virtual inertia mechanisms of wind power, PV units and energy storage system (ESS), and propose control methods for wind power and PV units to participate in inertia response. Considering the reason of limited inertia response capability of renewable energy units, the fuzzy control is used to make the ESS participate in inertia compensation to improve the frequency response capability. Finally, case study is carried out to verified the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. © 2022 IEEE.

Facing the difficulties of large-scale networked satellite communication, such as unstable topology, diversified channel types, and uncertain satellite link failure, this paper proposes a general optimal routing path calculation method based on historical data prediction, and establishes a Statistical model based on historical data prediction for inter satellite communication transmission, which is not limited to transient failures caused by aging energy, storage, and load. At the same time, in the process of calculating the transmission rate and packet loss rate of the communication link, historical data is introduced to form a channel rate function that changes over time, which is used to achieve communication prediction within the transmission time and achieve self-sensing of the communication link's state. Based on the self-prediction state of the communication link, combined with the domain search algorithm, the maximum probability optimal solution of the long-term interactive routing process is considered to achieve real-time optimal solution for data transmission in the constellation of Jupiter in orbit. A simulation verification was conducted for a large number of randomly distributed routing applications in a short period of time, and parameters such as link stability, load capacity, and business time delay were compared with previous designs. The results show that the proposed method has good stability, which is more than 10% higher than previous designs;The link load is significantly lower compared to previous designs;Under the condition of a large number of routing applications, the service delay has been reduced by 27% compared to previous designs, ensuring routing communication under the time-varying topology of the constellation group. © 2023 IEEE.

Existing face forgery detection usually follows the paradigm of training models in a single domain, which leads to limited generalization capacity when unseen scenarios and unknown attacks occur. In this paper, we elaborately investigate the generalization capacity of deepfake detection models when jointly trained on multiple face forgery detection datasets. We first find a rapid degradation of detection accuracy when models are directly trained on combined datasets due to the discrepancy across collection scenarios and generation methods. To address the above issue, a Generalized Multi-Scenario Deepfake Detection framework (GM-DF) is proposed to serve multiple real-world scenarios by a unified model. First, we propose a hybrid expert modeling approach for domain-specific real/forgery feature extraction. Besides, as for the commonality representation, we use CLIP to extract the common features for better aligning visual and textual features across domains. Meanwhile, we introduce a masked image reconstruction mechanism to force models to capture rich forged details. Finally, we supervise the models via a domain-aware meta-learning strategy to further enhance their generalization capacities. Specifically, we design a novel domain alignment loss to strongly align the distributions of the meta-test domains and meta-train domains. Thus, the updated models are able to represent both specific and common real/forgery features across multiple datasets. In consideration of the lack of study of multi-dataset training, we establish a new benchmark leveraging multi-source data to fairly evaluate the models' generalization capacity on unseen scenarios. Both qualitative and quantitative experiments on five datasets conducted on traditional protocols as well as the proposed benchmark demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. The Internet Of Things (IoT) is an emerging paradigm representing a network of infrastructure connecting different types of devices in different places. Recently, IoT-based Conversational systems gained more attention, providing users with a new human-computer interaction mode. These new systems allow users to interact with the IoT ecosystem through a virtual assistant. They also heavily rely on Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for intelligent and efficient communication. Understanding the user's needs is the first step toward a more humanized IoT interaction system. This can be achieved using Natural language understanding (NLU) modules. Slot Filling is one of the core sub-tasks in NLU. It is an active research area focusing on extracting attribute values from the user's utterance. In this study, we propose an LSTM-based model for slot filling. The model benefits from contextual embeddings extracted from the BERT transformer model, the attention mechanism, and the conditional random field (CRF) that is known to model strong dependence among adjacent tags in the output sequence. Experiments show that our model achieved competitive results on two widely used benchmark datasets. © 2022 IEEE.

Coordinated Operation of Concentrating Solar Power Plant and Wind Farm for Frequency Regulation

As a dispatchable renewable energy technology, the fast ramping capability of concentrating solar power (CSP) can be exploited to provide regulation services. However, frequent adjustments in real-time power output of CSP, which stems out of strategies offered by ill-designed market, may affect the durability and the profitability of the CSP plant, especially when it provides fast regulation services in a real-time operation. We propose the coordinated operation of a CSP plant and wind farm by exploiting their complementarity in accuracy and durability for providing frequency regulation. The coordinated operation can respond to regulation signals effectively and achieve a better performance than conventional thermal generators. We further propose an optimal bidding strategy for both energy and frequency regulations for the coordinated operation of CSP plant and wind farm in day-ahead market (DAM). The validity of the coordinated operation model and the proposed bidding strategy is verified by a case study including a base case and sensitivity analyses on several impacting factors in electricity markets.
