New evolving fuzzy inference system based on genetic algorithm

This paper presents the amalgamation manner and structure of genetic algorithm and evolving fuzzy inference system (EFIS), applies a new EFIS based on GA for dynamic adaptive on-line and off-line learning. An evolving clustering method (ECM) is employed, and new fuzzy rules are created and updated during the operation of the system. Genetic algorithm is applied to optimize the result of ECM and modify the membership functions, the system output is calculated by the fuzzy inference system.

This paper presents a model which facilitates the allocation of spinning reserve in a power network which includes a large HVDC infeed. The basic area control model of the power system is developed and subsequently fine-tuned using a non-linear optimization procedure. The model is then used to evaluate the frequency control performance in the face of a known load forecast considering NERC performance standards

The standard particle swarm optimization (PSO) may prematurely converge on suboptimal solution partly because of the insufficiency information utilization of the velocity. The time cost by velocity is longer than position of each particle of the swarm, though the velocity, limited by the constant Vmax, onfy provides the positional displacement To avoid premature convergence, a new modified PSO, predicted PSO, is proposed owning two different swarms in which the velocity without limitation, considered as a predictor, is used to explore the search space besides providing the displacement while the position considered as a corrector. The algorithm gives some balance between global and local search capability. The optimization computing of some examples is made to show the new algorithm has better global search capacity and rapid convergence rate.

3D models are a new kind of cross-media resource which can be frequently seen in the network. Since the amount of them is very huge now, content-based retrieval can help to recognize a certain object or retrieve similar ones from the giant database. This paper presents a new method for deriving 3D moment invariants and uses them as shape descriptors for the representation of 3D models. They are insensitive to surface noise and can be used in pervasive environment conveniently. We also illustrate how to build up experimental system and simulate 3D shape retrieval in wireless environment

Smoothing, while preserving edges, has always been a major challenge in image processing. In this paper, we propose a new approach that uses segmentation in order to avoid inter-region smoothing thus preserving the edges. It is common to smooth the image prior to region growing. The opposite procedure does not work properly in the presence of noise since region growing is very noise sensitive. To overcome this difficulty we adapted a robust region growing algorithm. Since region growing is very resource consuming, we do not perform it for every pixel. Instead, we divide the image into a number of overlapping blocks for which we carry out the segmentation. Then, we use the results for some of the core pixels in that block. Now that the regions are known, we proceed to smooth each region by a fuzzy approach emphasizing the pixels residing in it. The performance of this filter is compared to that of the bilateral filter and it is shown that the new method generates superior results.

A new detection scheme, namely AND subtraction technique is proposed and presented in this paper. The theory is being elaborated and experimental results have been done by comparing double-weight (DW) code against the existing code, Hadamard. In this paper we have proved that AND subtraction technique gives better bit error rates (BER) performance than Complementary subtraction technique against the received power level.

Recently, large-scale protein-protein interactions were recovered using the similar two-hybrid system for the model systems. This information allows us to investigate the protein interaction network from a systematic point of view. However, experimentally determined interactions are susceptible to errors. A previous assessment estimated that only ~10% of the interactions can be supported by more than one independent experiment, and about half of the interactions may be false positives. These false positives might unnecessarily link unrelated proteins, resulting in huge apparent interaction clusters, which complicate elucidation for the biological importance of these interactions. Address this problem, we present an approach to integrate, assess and characterize all available protein-protein interactions in model organisms yeast and fly. We first integrate all available protein-protein interaction databases of yeast and fly, and merge all the datasets. We then use machine learning techniques to score the reliability for each interaction, and to rigorously validate the scoring scheme of yeast protein-protein interactions from different aspects. Our results show that this scoring scheme provides a good basis for selecting reliable protein-protein interaction dataset

The water quality is the most vital factor in a successfully healthy aquaculture. After investigation by 415 fish disease cases and experiments, it is found that eutrophication and the pollutants of NH3, H2S as well as heavy metals and organic compounds are the main reasons of inducing fish disease in the north of China. Generally speaking, an early warning system for fish disease based on water management is a cheaper and alternative choice available for the fish farmers to warn the risks and to minimize disease problems. A Web-GIS-based fish disease early-warning system (FDEWS 2.0) based on water quality management has been developed by us. Building a water quality monitoring network in the aquafarm and integrating a series of simulation models with the GIS and the World-Wide-Web (WWW) are the key advantages of this system

An EMG-driven arm wrestling robot (AWR) is being developed in our laboratories for the purposes of studying neuromuscular control of arm movements. The AWR arm have 2-DOF, integrated with mechanical arm, elbow/wrist force sensors, servo motor, encoder, 3-D MEMS accelerometer, and USB camera, is used to estimate tension developed by individual muscles based on recorded electromyograms (EMGs). The surface electromyographic signal form the upper limb is sampled from a real player in same conditions. By using the method of wavelet packet transformation (WPT) and auto regressive model (AR), the characteristics of EMG signals can be extracted. Artificial neural network is adopted to estimate the elbow joint torque. The effectiveness of the humanoid algorithm using torque control estimated via WRT and neural network is confirmed by experiments. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design objectives, fundamental components and implementation of our real-time, EMG-driven AWR arm.

Cache based feedback grid scheduling approach

Grid scheduling which aims at improving resource utilization and grid application performance is a key concern in grid. Currently, much research can be found about grid scheduling and some algorithms on it were proposed. However, since grid resources are autonomic, distributed and their status change over time, those scheduling algorithms did not fit for the cases well. In this paper, a cache based feedback grid scheduling (CBFS) approach is presented to capture the dynamics and impact of simultaneously co-allocated tasks in a grid. In this approach, grid scheduler utilizes recent resource performance data, such as recent task submitting time and execution time of task which are kept in cache and a feedback approach to engineer load balancing across multiple grid resources. After comparing this dynamic grid scheduling approach with previous research, it is found that CBFS is more generous than other scheduling approaches. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach diminishes latency and contributes to the overall grid load balancing, which significantly improves resource utilization and response time of tasks.
