In this paper, a direct numerical simulation technique, the Finite Element Fictitious Boundary Method (FBM), is used to simulate fluid–solid two-phase flows of different general shaped particles. The momentum interactions between solid and fluid phases are handled by using the FBM. The continuity and momentum equations are solved on a fixed Eulerian grid that is independent of flow features by using a discrete projection scheme inside a multi-grid finite element approach. A detailed description is presented for the geometric representation and modeling of two-dimensional particles of different general shapes, i.e., circular, elliptical, square, rectangular, triangular, and pentagonal shapes inside the fluid. We discussed the effects of particle shapes and the influences on the settling behavior of the particles. A comparison of the settling trajectories of the particles of the same mass but with different shapes is presented. Moreover, depending upon the particle’s shape, some interesting facts are discovered, which have a great influence on the particles’ trajectory and settling velocity. Some very important correlations between the drag force coefficient and particle’s Reynolds numbers with different density ratios of particles are obtained. A financial data analysis using the time series method has been performed. At the same time a correct interpretation of daily exchange rates fluctuations, for Eur foreign currencies is presented. The fractal dimension evaluation has been performed using the box-counting method, which allows for a rapid analysis of 2D images on two bits (white-black). A perfected version of this method has been employed to investigate the temporal evolution of a currency rate, which has oscillations predominantly on the vertical direction.

From fireflies to cardiac cells, synchronization governs important aspects of nature, and the Kuramoto model is the staple for research in this area. We show that generalizing the model to oscillators of dimensions higher than 2 and introducing a positive feedback mechanism between the coupling and the global order parameter leads to a rich and novel scenario: the synchronization transition is explosive at all even dimensions, whilst it is mediated by a time-dependent, rhythmic, state at all odd dimensions. Such a latter circumstance, in particular, differs from all other time-dependent states observed so far in the model. We provide the analytic description of this novel state, which is fully corroborated by numerical calculations. Our results can, therefore, help untangle secrets of observed time-dependent swarming and flocking dynamics that unfold in three dimensions, and where this novel state could thus provide a fresh perspective for as yet not understood formations.

The interactions between electric and magnetic subsystems in a ferroelectric-ferromagnetic composite occur through mechanical forces. Here we discuss results of a systematic investigation on the strength of the magnetic response of the composite to an applied electric field, known as the converse magnetoelectric (CME) effect, and its dependence on the ferroic order parameters and volume fraction for the two phases. Studies were carried out on composites of lead zirconate titanate and 2–30-μm-thick nickel zinc ferrite (NZFO) films grown by liquid phase epitaxy on lattice matched (100) and (111) MgO substrates. Ferromagnetic resonance was utilized to determine the strength of CME from data on electric field E induced shift in the resonance frequency and its dependence on ferrite film orientation and thickness as well as MgO substrate thickness. The CME coupling coefficient A was found to be a factor of 2 to 4 higher in samples with NZFO films with (100) orientation than for (111) films. A decrease in A was measured with increasing ferrite film thickness and a very significant enhancement in the strength of CME was measured for decreasing MgO thickness. A model for CME that takes into consideration the influence of nonferroic MgO substrate was developed, and estimated A values are in very good agreement with the data. The results presented here are also of importance for a new class of electric field tunable ferrite microwave devices.

The relationship between the weight of a single genes and the connection between the genes had been studied. Chemistry and physical sciences have proved the attraction between molecules. Molecules are attracted to each other by bond. This paper is presented to disclose the relationship between weight and connectivity of nodes with biased random walk. An equation of biased random walk which named as significant directed random walk is formed to enhance the connectivity of nodes in directed graph via weigh. To be completely biased to the random walk, references data is implement as directed graph. Weight of genes will be used as one of the parameter in the formula. While the adjacency matrix is further enhanced by Warshall's algorithm to increases the accessibility of nodes via vector. The evolution of random walk is disclosed in this paper as well. Significant directed random walk will be used to prove the importance of weight in this paper. Comparison of the result between biased random walk is presented to prove the enhancement of random walk.

Currently, the growth of information and technology is rapid. It makes a lot of things in various fields including education becoming more effective and efficient. In education, one of its implementation which is a game is proven to be a useful tool to support conventional teaching methods and bring a more natural understanding of learning materials. Moreover, as a product of the popular culture in modern society, video game mirrors the general culture practice in real life and reflects it via its own culture inside the game. This makes a video game can give a contribution to the social construction of reality as it affects the player's view towards learning in real life and vice versa. From there, we see that there is an opportunity for learning about religion to be supported by its utilization to provide an interactive and fun learning experience. In this paper, we discuss how a video game is implemented to support religious learning. The game was developed with the scrum method where we surveyed to gather the user requirements before the design step. The game design was made by using the use case diagram and storyboard, and it was built using Unity version 2017.3.0f3.

The development of the Production Unit Performance Management Tool (PUPMT), a monitoring and diagnostic tool to select basic signals that have a significant impact on output KPIs, is based on a hierarchical analysis of key performance indicators presented in the ISO 22400 standard. The growing number of quantified signals, such as ambient temperature or even the frequency of vibrations makes decision support tools more intelligent. Moreover, they also include predictive analysis in addition to online presentation of the current state of resources. PUPMT tool allows identifying key events that have a significant impact on current or future benefit in production output. It also allows what-if type analysis, running the simulation of the impact of the proposed changes, and the results of this simulation depend on the effects of similar changes that occurred in the past in a given smart manufacturing environment. Thanks to the automatic identification of potential dependencies, the proposed solution adapts to the specifics of a given environment or even a selected production unit. The paper describes the most important methods featured in the tool. Specifically, it considers a signal classification method, a signal correlation analysis and selection of key factors affecting the efficiency of the production process. In order to verify the methods various tests were carried out to calculate and control of OEE index on 20 production units. Finally, we conclude current results and future research directions.

The Fish owners of the pet fish are usually distressed when they are away from home environment because they could not feed the fish on time. Both reasons, food starvation and overfeeding risk the health of fish and leads to poor water quality in indoor fish tanks. Thus monitoring the fish feeder is of great importance which can be very beneficial for the fish owners. This work is aimed to design a fish feeder system using microcontroller and Raspberry Pi based web application to relax the distressed fish owners in feeding their fish on time. This system is designed to overcome the problem of fish dying due to fish feeder malfunction. With this design, the fish owner can monitor the fish tank for correct functioning of the fish feeder. Also, the user can set schedules for feeding the fish through the web application. © 2017 IEEE.

Towards fair and decentralized privacy-preserving deep learning with blockchain

In collaborative deep learning, current learning frameworks follow either a centralized architecture or a distributed architecture. Whilst centralized architecture deploys a central server to train a global model over the massive amount of joint data from all parties, distributed architecture aggregates parameter updates from participating parties' local model training, via a parameter server. These two server-based architectures present security and robustness vulnerabilities such as singlepoint-of-failure, single-point-of-breach, privacy leakage, and lack of fairness. To address these problems, we design, implement, and evaluate a purely decentralized privacy-preserving deep learning framework, called DPPDL. DPPDL makes the first investigation on the research problem of fairness in collaborative deep learning, and simultaneously provides fairness and privacy by proposing two novel algorithms: initial benchmarking and privacy-preserving collaborative deep learning. During initial benchmarking, each party trains a local Differentially Private Generative Adversarial Network (DPGAN) and publishes the generated privacy-preserving artificial samples for other parties to label, based on the quality of which to initialize local credibility list for other parties. The local credibility list reflects how much one party contributes to another party, and it is used and updated during collaborative learning to ensure fairness. To protect gradients transaction during privacy-preserving collaborative deep learning, we further put forward a three-layer onionstyle encryption scheme. We experimentally demonstrate, on benchmark image datasets, that accuracy, privacy and fairness in collaborative deep learning can be effectively addressed at the same time by our proposed DPPDL framework. A comparison of nonsmooth, nonconvex, constrained optimization solvers for the design of time-delay compensators

We present a detailed set of performance comparisons of two state-of-the-art solvers for the application of designing time-delay compensators, an important problem in the field of robust control. Formulating such robust control mechanics as constrained optimization problems often involves objective and constraint functions that are both nonconvex and nonsmooth, both of which present significant challenges to many solvers and their end-users hoping to obtain good solutions to these problems. In our particular engineering task, the main difficulty in the optimization arises in a nonsmooth and nonconvex stability constraint, which states that the infinite spectrum of zeros of the so-called shaper should remain in the open left half-plane. To perform our evaluation, we make use β-relative minimization profiles, recently introduced visualization tools that are particularly suited for benchmarking solvers on nonsmooth, nonconvex, constrained optimization problems. Furthermore, we also introduce new visualization tools, called Global-Local Profiles, which for a given problem and a fixed computational budget, assess the tradeoffs of distributing the budget over few or many starting points, with the former getting more budget per point and latter less.
