作者: Richardson, James C. Berman, Paul I. Capt. James C. Richardson Jr. a surface warfare officer was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and the American University. With proven subspecialities in Material Management and Computer Systems Technology he has served as Commanding Officer USS Hepburn (FF-IOSS) Program Manager of the Mk 86 Gun Fire Control System at the Naval Sea Systems Command and is currently Commanding Officer of the Navy Regional Data Automation Center Washington D. C. Paul Berman is manager of Product Support Engineering for Lockheed Electronics Company Plain field New Jersey. His department is responsible for logistics planning and analysk supply support field engineering training and technical documentation in support of the division as products. His 30 years of experience in product support include preparation of logistics plans engineering data technical publications and training materials. He is also an adjunct instructor at Rutgers University. Mr. Berman received a BA from Queens College in 1951 and an MA from Hunter College in 1957. He attended the U.S. Army Signal Corps radar school and was a field radio and radar repairman during the Korean War. He is currently a member of the Society of Logistics Engineers and the National Management Association.

He completed his bachelor of science degree in aeropace and ocean engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1985 and his master of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland in 1990. Mr. Dirlik recently completed a master of science program in applied physics at The Johns Hopins University and currently works in the Radar Cross Section and Target Physics Branch of the Signatures Directorate at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Corderoke Division. He has worked on Navy low observable programs since 1990. Stephen Hambric:is a research associate at the Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his B. S. and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his D. Sc. in mechnical engineering from the George Washington University. He has worked on several computer aided multidiscikplinary design and optimization projects over the years including an automated propeller design system and a structural acoustic optimization capability. Dr. Shpour Azarm:is currently working as an associate professor with the Design and Manufacturing Group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of maryland at College Park. Dr Azarm's expertise is in the areas of optimization-based designed and concurrent design and optimization of multidisciplinary systems. He was a consultant at Black & Decker Corporation (summer 1996) and worked as a Navy senior summer faculty fellow (summer 1995) and a NASA summer faculty fellow (summer 1994). He was a visiting scientist at NASA Langley Research Center for Multidisciplinary Analysis and Applied Structural Optimzatiom at the University of Siegen in Germany (spring 1992) and the Design Institute of the Technical University of Denmark (summer 1990). Swenson USNR (Ret.):is a project manager for special projects in the Surface Ship Systems Division Hughes Aircraft Company Fullerton Calif where he has been employed since his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1975. Originally trained as an electronics technician during WWII in the Captain Eddy program he later received a BS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester Rochester N. Y. in 1950. Subsequent engineering education was received at the University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Penn. and the Naval Postgraduate School Monterey Calif. After commissioning he was ordered to duty as the electronics division officer on the USSMissouri(BB-63) and electronics ships superintendent at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard San Francisco Calif. When the design of the Naval Tactical Data System began in the mid-1950s Lt. (j.g.) Swenson was ordered to the Bureau of Ships Navy Department Washington D.C. as the junior engineering duty only officer assigned to the project. From 1962 to 1965 LCdr. Swenson was assigned as the BuShips technical representative on the program at Remington Rand Univac St. Paul Minn. For the next ten years he returned to BuShips/NavSea/NAVSEC as the NTDS project officer. During this time the project expanded considerably foreign military sales were heavily involved and interoperability with other services and countries were established. His final effort on active duty was to instigate the redesign of the previousSpruanceclass destroyers into the newerAdmiral Kiddclass improvement program. He is a registered professional electrical engineer in the State of California listed inWho's Who in the Worldis a life member of ASNE and chairman of the Long Beach/Greater LA Section. Capt. His past experiences include: Naval Architect for the Naval Ship Engineering Center 1959 Deputy Chief Design Engineer for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard 1958 to 1959 and Naval Architect the former Bureau of Ships 1948 to 1958. His education is comprised of a B.S. degree from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture an L.L.B. degree from the George Washington University Law School completion of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University and current study of Transportation at the American University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia and a Member of the Bar in the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. In addition to ASNE his other professional memberships include the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers the Society of Aeronautical Weight Engineers and the Association of Senior Engineers of the Naval Ships Systems Command (Honorary). USN Commander L. Dennis Ballou: USN is the Head of the Engineering Service Office Naval Ship Engineering Center. He is involved in computer hardware and software services to support engineering design automatic data processing systems design work study and quality assurance. Prior to NavSec duty Commander Ballou served in various billets afloat and ashore: tours on the USS Skagit and Tang supervision of the USS Skipjack's first overhul construction of the USS Nathanael Greene and helping to establish the Polaris overhaul program. He received the B. Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Concordia University Montreal Canada in 1989. He is at present completing the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering at Concordia University. (S'75–S'79–M'79–SM'86) received the Ph.D. degree from Southern Methodist University Dallas TX in 1979. He spent the next two years working as a Visiting Professor in Egypt after which he moved to Ottawa Canada in 1982. He assumed teaching and research positions in Carleton and Manitoba Univerities and later moved to Concordia University Montreal Canada in 1983 where he is now a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He has published numerous papers in IEEE and international journals in the areas of spread spectrum and networking. He is a well-known expert in these areas and serves as a consultant to many companies. His current research interests include wide-band metropolitan networks switching architectures and performance of on-board multibeam satellites acquisitionless CDMA networks code distribution and orthogonalization of CDMA signals responsive congestion control for ATM-based networks ARQ techniques and investigation of the novel SUGAR CDMA systems in fading channels. David Berg a native of Michigan received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Michigan Technological University in 1951 after which he began his career with the Bureau of Ships in the Machinery Design Branch on noise shock and vibration problems. He was project engineer for the axial flow pumpjet development on USS Witek (DD848) and USS Glover (AGDE1) and received his Master of Engineering Degree in Naval Architecture in 1964 from the University of California Berkeley. Mr. Berg is currently acting head of the Ship Performance and Trials Section of the Propulsion Systems Analysis Branch in the Naval Ship Engineering Center. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1962 for contributions to the design of the USS Thresher (SSN593) and was awarded the Superior Performance Award for Outstanding Performance in 1966. Hugh Marron a native of Pennsylvania received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1939. Upon graduation he was employed for one year with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways as a construction engineer. In July 1940 he became a Marine Engineer at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where after a period of apprenticeship and special training in this new field he was assigned to the Machinery Scientific Group of the Design Division. Then in October 1945 he was transferred to the Design Division of the Bureau of Ships. Mr. Marron is now a Project Coordinator in the Propulsion Power and Auxiliary Systems Division of the Naval Ship Engineering Center. Walter S. Jones a native of Virginia graduated from the George Washington University with a BME in June 1958. From July of that year through June 1965 he served with the Machinery Design Branch of the Bureau of Ships where he was Project Engineer for the Hydroneu-matic Ram Jet and Water jet Propulsion Systems. Mr. Jones is currently the Machinery Coordinator for the Computer Aided Ship Design Program in the Naval Ship Engineering Center.
