Childers USN (Ret.):graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1939. and later completed his graduate studies at California Institute of Technology from which he received his MS and AE degrees. He was a fighter pilot in the aircraft carriers USS Ranger and USS Essex during World War II and an instructor at the Guided Missile School. Ft. Bliss Texas from 1947 until 1949 at which time he came to Washington. D.C. as an Assistant Division Director Ships Installation Division Bureau of Aeronautics. In addition his active duty career included assignments as Naval Air Systems Command Representative Atlantic Assistant Commander for Material Acquisition Naval Air Systems Command and Deputy Project Manager for the FlllB/Phoenix Program. Bureau of Naval Weapons. During the first five years of the Polaris Program he was responsible for all testing at the Atlantic Missile Range. He also served as Commander of the Naval Missile Center where he directed the test and evaluation of Airborne Weapon Systems and had been on an earlier assignment the Missile Test Officer. His military decorations include the Silver Star the Legion of Merit two Air Medals the Navy Commendation Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation. Currently he is employed as the Manager of the Analysis and Evaluation Department at CERBERONICS. Inc. Falls Church. Va. Mr. Frederick M. Gloeckler: currently a Consultant to CERBERONICS Inc. graduated from New York University from which he received his BS degree. He began his career with the Department of the Navy in 1938. and culminated it with his retirement in 1972 at which time he was engaged in VSTOL aircraft analysis and was the Director Advanced Systems Division Naval Air Systems Command (and its predecessor organizations). During this period he made major contributions to the Fleet Ballistic Missile Program the F-14 A-7 and S-3 Aircraft Programs and the Phoenix Condor and Harpoon Missile Programs. 作者: STRAUBINGER, EK CURRAN, WC FIGHERA, VL Mr. Erwin K. Straubinger:is currently Head of the Weight Division(SEA 55 W2)of the Naval Sea Systems Command. He graduated from the University of California School of Architecture at Berkeley in 1953. Mr. Straubinger began his career with the U.S. Navyin 1959 as a Naval Architect (Stability) in the Scientific Section of the Design Division at Long Beach Naval Shipyard and transferred to BUSHIPS Weight Branch in 1962. Achieving his present position in June 1980 Mr. Straubinger was previously Head of the Special Projects Section SEA 55W21 being responsible for formulation and development of weight control policies and procedures as well as coordination of the overall U.S. NavyWeight Control Program for detail design and construction. Before obtaining that position in 1968 he worked in the Special Projects Section on a variety of weight control matters including specifications contractual weight control language estimating techniques computer applications reporting procedures and evaluation of the Weight Control Program. Mr. Straubinger is a member of ASNE SNAME ASE and the Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE) in which he serves as a member of the Government/Industry Panel for marine vehicles. Mr. William J. Cumin:is currently a task leader for surface combatant ships in the Weight Division (SEA 55W2) of the Naval Sea Systems Command. He began his career with the U.S. Navyin 1966 as a naval architect trainee at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard while participating in Drexel University's cooperative education program. Upon graduation from the D.U. School of Engineering Mr. Curran accepted a position in the Scientific Branch of the Shipyard. Some of his responsibilities during this period included the development of modernization weight estimates inclining experiments and trim dives. 作者: WIERNICKI, CJ GOODING, TG NAPPI, NS Mr. Christopher J. Wiernicki:graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1980 with a B.E. degree in Structural Engineering. Upon graduation he began his professional career at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center. As a structural engineer in the Surface Ship Structures Division Mr. Wiernicki was responsible for developing improved methods and procedures for designing and evaluating structural systems for surf ace combatants. Specific projects included design for producibility development and evaluation of automated ship structural design methods and participation in the structural design of the CG 49 Cruiser and the current DDG 51 Destroyer. In 1982 Mr. Wiernicki received his M.S. degree in Ocean Engineering from George Washington University. Mr. Wiernicki is a recipient of the SNAME 1982-82 Graduate Scholarship and is currently doing post graduate work in Naval Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology he is a member of ASNE SNAME ASCE and Chi Epsilon. Mr. Thomas G. Gooding:graduated in 1975 from the University of Michigan with B.S. degrees in Oceanography and Naval Architecture. After graduation he began his professional career at the Naval Ship Engineering Center (NA VSEC) as a structural engineer. From 1975 till 1978 Mr. Gooding worked in the area of ship dry docking and was the structural task leader on the complex overhaul ofUSS Long Beach (CGN-9). Mr. Gooding returned to the University of Michigan to receive a M.S. in Naval Architecture in 1979. Dr. Lin received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the National Taiwan University in 1957. He was awarded his M.S. degree in naval architecture and Ph.D. in engineering science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963 and 1966 respectively. From 1966 to 1969 he was employed by ESSO Research and Engineering Company to conduct marine hydrodynamic research for oil tankers and offshore structures. Since joining DTNSRDC in 1969 he has actively conducted and directed hydrodynamic research to advance naval ship design technology and improve ship performance. Active in national and international symposia on ship hydrodynamic research he is recognized for contributions to the ship research community. For the past six years he has been a member of the Performance Committee of the ITTC and currently serves as secretary of the committee. He is a member of SNAME and the Society of Naval Architects of Japan. William G. Day Jr:. has been employed as a naval architect at the David Taylor Naval Ship R&D Center since receiving a B.E.S. degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1966. He obtained an M.S. E. degree from George Washington University in 1971. As Head Design Evaluation Branch of the Ship Performance Department he is responsible for model experiments to evaluate the hydrodynamic performance of ships and propulsors. He is a member of ASNE and SNAME. In-Young Koh:received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Lowell University in 1969 and 1971 respectively and his Ph.D. in applied mechanics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1976. Dr. Koh joined DTNSRDC as an electronic engineer specializing in the application of advanced instrumentation and computer techniques to ship research and design. Chong received the B.E.(Hons.) degree with First Class Honors from the University of Adelaide South Australia in 1987 graduating top of his class and the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in 1989 and 1991 respectively both from Princeton University where he held an IBM Fellowship. He joined the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University in 1991 where he was named a University Faculty Scholar in 1999 and promoted to Full Professor in 2001. Since August 2001 he has been a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor of Mathematics at Colorado State University. His current interests are in communication networks and optimization methods. He coauthored the best-selling book An Introduction to Optimization 2nd Edition Wiley-Interscience 2001. He received the NSF CAREER Award in 1995 and the ASEE Frederick Emmons Terman Award in 1998. He coauthored a paper that was awarded Best Paper in the journal Computer Networks 2003. Professor Chong is a Fellow of the IEEE. He was founding chairman of the IEEE Control Systems Society Technical Committee on Discrete Event Systems and until recently served as an IEEE Control Systems Society Distinguished Lecturer. He has been on the editorial board of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. He is currently on the editorial board of the journal Computer Networks. He has also served on the organizing committees of several international conferences. He has been on the program committees for the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control the American Control Conference the IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications and the IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference.
