The state of the art of artificial intelligence (AI) for various medical imaging applications leads to enhanced accuracy, analysis, visualization, and interpretation of chest Xray (CXR) images for diagnosis. Many diseases are diagnosed based on CXR images. In this paper, two types of abnormalities are diagnosed based on AI techniques. The two classes are atelectasis and cardiomegaly. The acquired images are segmented to localize the chest region and then enhanced using gray-level transformation methods. The enhanced images are passed to two pretrained convolutional neural networks (CNNs): shuffle and mobile net. The transfer learning approach is utilized in this stage. The automated features are extracted from the last fully connected layer. Each CNN deserves to have the two most representative features for the two classes. These four features are passed to support the vector machine classifier. The training accuracy reached 100% and the test accuracy was 96.7%. The proposed method can be extended to be a milestone in the classification of all heart-lung diseases that can be diagnosed using chest X-ray images.

TERMinator: A Neural Framework for Structure-Based Protein Design using Tertiary Repeating Motifs

Computational protein design has the potential to deliver novel molecular structures, binders, and catalysts for myriad applications. Recent neural graph-based models that use backbone coordinate-derived features show exceptional performance on native sequence recovery tasks and are promising frameworks for design. A statistical framework for modeling protein sequence landscapes using Tertiary Motifs (TERMs), compact units of recurring structure in proteins, has also demonstrated good performance on protein design tasks. In this work, we investigate the use of TERM-derived data as features in neural protein design frameworks. Our graph-based architecture, TERMinator, incorporates TERM-based and coordinate-based information and outputs a Potts model over sequence space. TERMinator outperforms state-of-the-art models on native sequence recovery tasks, suggesting that utilizing TERM-based and coordinate-based features together is beneficial for protein design. © 2022, CC BY.

Dealing with resolution variations in dual-temporal remote sensing images is challenging due to differences in sensor capabilities, altitudes, footprints, resampling, and data fusion. Conventional methods for different-resolution change detection struggle to effectively address these challenges, primarily due to insufficient consideration of global and local feature interactions. In this paper, we propose a novel change detection model that leverages the power of multi-scale resolution fusion(MRF). By incorporating the MRF-Block, our approach extracts hierarchical multi-scale features from the input data, enabling effective capture of contextual information at various granularities. This facilitates improved handling of resolution disparities and promotes interactions between global and local features. Experimental evaluations conducted on diverse datasets, demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed model in achieving accurate change detection in dual-temporal remote sensing imagery, even in scenarios characterized by varying resolutions. Forged content shared widely on social media platforms is a major social problem that requires increased regulation and poses new challenges to the research community. The recent proliferation of hyper-realistic deepfake videos has drawn attention to the threat of audio and visual forgeries. Most previous work on detecting AI-generated fake videos only utilizes visual modality or audio modality. While there are some methods in the literature that exploit audio and visual modalities to detect forged videos, they have not been comprehensively evaluated on multi-modal datasets of deepfake videos involving acoustic and visual manipulations. Moreover, these existing methods are mostly based on CNN and suffer from low detection accuracy. Inspired by the recent success of Transformer in various fields, to address the challenges posed by deepfake technology, in this paper, we propose an Audio-Visual Transformer-based Ensemble Network (AVTENet) framework that considers both acoustic manipulation and visual manipulation to achieve effective video forgery detection. Specifically, the proposed model integrates several purely transformer-based variants that capture video, audio, and audio-visual salient cues to reach a consensus in prediction. For evaluation, we use the recently released benchmark multi-modal audio-video FakeAVCeleb dataset. For a detailed analysis, we evaluate AVTENet, its variants, and several existing methods on multiple test sets of the FakeAVCeleb dataset. Experimental results show that our best model outperforms all existing methods and achieves state-of-the-art performance on Testset-I and Testset-II of the FakeAVCeleb dataset. © 2023, CC BY.

Palladium is the most prominent material in both scientific and industrial research on gas storage,purification,detection,and catalysis due to its unique properties as a catalyst and hydrogen *** the dynamic optical phenomena of palladium reacting with hydrogen,transduction of the gas-matter reaction into light-matter interaction is attempted to visualize the dynamic surface chemistry and reaction *** simple geometry of the metal-dielectric-metal structure,Fabry-Perot etalon,is employed for a colorimetric reactor,to display the catalytic reaction of the exposed gas via water-film/bubble formation at the dielectric/palladium *** adsorption/desorption behavior and catalytic reaction of hydrogen and oxygen on the palladium surface display highly repeatable and dramatic color changes based on two distinct water formation trends:the foggy effect by water bubbles and the whiteout effect by water film *** and experiments demonstrate the robustness of the proposed Fabry-Perot etalon as an excellent platform for monitoring the opto-physical phenomena driven by heterogeneous catalysis.

Energy-efficient knowledge distillation for spiking Neural Networks

Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have been gaining interest as energy-efficient alternatives of conventional artificial neural networks (ANNs) due to their event-driven computation. Considering the future deployment of SNN models to constrained neuromorphic devices, many studies have applied techniques originally used for ANN model compression, such as network quantization, pruning, and knowledge distillation, to SNNs. Among them, existing works on knowledge distillation reported accuracy improvements of student SNN model. However, analysis on energy efficiency, which is also an important feature of SNN, was absent. In this paper, we thoroughly analyze the performance of the distilled SNN model in terms of accuracy and energy efficiency. In the process, we observe a substantial increase in the number of spikes, leading to energy inefficiency, when using the conventional knowledge distillation methods. Based on this analysis, to achieve energy efficiency, we propose a novel knowledge distillation method with heterogeneous temperature parameters. We evaluate our method on two different datasets and show that the resulting SNN student satisfies both accuracy improvement and reduction of the number of spikes. On MNIST dataset, our proposed student SNN achieves up to 0.09% higher accuracy and produces 65% less spikes compared to the student SNN trained with conventional knowledge distillation method. Developing a smart grid is a trend nowadays and an indispensable basic necessity of life. In recent years, the electricity demand has risen rapidly due to economic development and quality of life improvement. The power grid in significant cities is unstable due to old equipment, and power outages occur frequently. The smart grid can adjust the grid’s distribution strategy through the consumer’s real-time electricity demand so that the consumer’s electricity consumption data is always transmitted to the grid. Failure to protect the privacy and security of such information will expose consumers’ habits and even make the grid unnecessarily wasteful. The smart grid’s abnormality detection efficiency determines the overall grid’s stability. Failure to detect anomalies or power theft in the grid promptly will not only lead to the selection of the wrong distribution strategy for the smart grid but also reduce the transmission efficiency of the grid. This research ensures the privacy and security of transmitted data to enhance the efficiency of abnormality detection in the smart grid. ERP stands for enterprise resource planning. It is an information system that is all rolled into one, is very flexible and adaptable, and optimizes business operations while also centralizing all of the company's data. This study aims to empirically investigate the elements that affect users' intention and usage of enterprise resource planning (ERP). This research incorporates self-efficacy into the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2). A quantitative technique was taken, and as a result, 143 replies that might be used were effectively collected. After that, the information was put through a structural equation modelling partial least square (SEM-PLS) analysis. According to the findings of this research, self-efficacy appears to have a significant influence on all endogenous variables (EE, BI, and UB), as indicated by t-values of 3.951, 7.573, and 5.492, respectively. In addition, the analysis also indicated that PE (4.317), EE (2.397), and HM (3.084) are likewise statistically and substantively significant to BI. The result shows that the R2 for BI and UB indicate a moderate impact of 0.603 and 0.521, respectively. It is suggested that the model has valuable applications in academic and real-world contexts.

Energy storage technologies, including short-duration, long-duration, and seasonal storage, are seen as technologies that can facilitate the integration of larger shares of variable renewable energy, such as wind and solar photovoltaics, in power systems. However, despite recent advances in the techno-economic modeling of energy storage (particularly for short-duration applications), the operation and economics of long-duration energy storage are still incomplete in power systems modeling platforms. For instance, existing modeling approaches for long-duration storage are often based either on an oversimplified representation of power system operations or limited representation of storage technologies, e.g., evaluation of only a single application. This manuscript presents an overview of the challenges of modeling long-duration energy storage technologies, as well as a discussion regarding the capabilities and limitations of existing approaches. We used two test power systems with high shares of both solar photovoltaics- and wind (70% - 90% annual variable renewable energy shares) to assess long-duration energy storage dispatch approaches. Our results estimate that better dispatch modeling of long-duration energy storage could increase the associated operational value by 4% - 14% and increase the standard capacity credit by 14% - 34%. Thus, a better long-duration energy storage dispatch could represent significant cost saving opportunities for electric utilities and system operators. In addition, existing long-duration dispatch modeling approaches were tested in terms of both improved system value (e.g., based on production cost and standard capacity credit) and scalability (e.g., based on central processing unit time and peak memory usage). Both copper plate and nodal representations of the power system were considered.
