Physics-Guided State-Space Model Augmentation Using Weighted Regularized Neural Networks ⁎

Physics-guided neural networks (PGNN) is an effective tool that combines the benefits of data-driven modeling with the interpretability and generalization of underlying physical information. However, for a classical PGNN, the penalization of the physics-guided part is at the output level, which leads to a conservative result as systems with highly similar state-transition functions, i.e. only slight differences in parameters, can have significantly different time-series outputs. Furthermore, the classical PGNN cost function regularizes the model estimate over the entire state space with a constant trade-of hyperparameter. In this paper, we introduce a novel model augmentation strategy for nonlinear state-space model identification based on PGNN, using a weighted function regularization (W-PGNN). The proposed approach can efficiently augment the prior physics-based state-space models based on measurement data. A new weighted regularization term is added to the cost function to penalize the difference between the state and output function of the baseline physics-based and final identified model. This ensures the estimated model follows the baseline physics model functions in regions where the data has low information content, while placing greater trust in the data when a high informativity is present. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy over the current PGNN method is demonstrated on a benchmark example.

Multi-objective Feature Attribution Explanation for Explainable Machine Learning

The feature attribution-based explanation (FAE) methods, which indicate how much each input feature contributes to the model's output for a given data point, are one of the most popular categories of explainable machine learning techniques. Although various metrics have been proposed to evaluate the explanation quality, no single metric could capture different aspects of the explanations. Different conclusions might be drawn using different metrics. Moreover, during the processes of generating explanations, existing FAE methods either do not consider any evaluation metric or only consider the faithfulness of the explanation, failing to consider multiple metrics simultaneously. To address this issue, we formulate the problem of creating FAE explainable models as a multi-objective learning problem that considers multiple explanation quality metrics simultaneously. We first reveal conflicts between various explanation quality metrics, including faithfulness, sensitivity, and complexity. Then, we define the considered multi-objective explanation problem and propose a multi-objective feature attribution explanation (MOFAE) framework to address this newly defined problem. Subsequently, we instantiate the framework by simultaneously considering the explanation's faithfulness, sensitivity, and complexity. Experimental results comparing with six state-of-The-Art FAE methods on eight datasets demonstrate that our method can optimize multiple conflicting metrics simultaneously and can provide explanations with higher faithfulness, lower sensitivity, and lower complexity than the compared methods. Moreover, the results have shown that our method has better diversity, i.e., it provides various explanations that achieve different tradeoffs between multiple conflicting explanation quality metrics. Radio frequency energy harvesting offers a promising solution to provide low power Internet of Things (IoT) devices with convenient and perpetual energy supply. In this work, we investigate the reliable performance of an energy-constrained transmitter communicating with a receiver over Nakagami-m channel, where the effects of transceiver hardware impairments and finite blocklength coding are jointly considered. Specifically, the communication link between the transmitter and receiver operates within the coverage of an existing wireless system, with radio frequency signal from the existing system serving as an energy signal for the transmitter while acting as an interference signal for the receiver. By utilizing the finite-blocklength information theory, we first derive average block error rate (BLER) and asymptotic average BLER in closed-form expressions, which enable us to quantify the extent of reliability loss. Then, we analyze effective throughput of the system, and determine the optimal blocklength that maximizes the effective throughput. computer simulations are employed to validate the accuracy of our analytical findings, demonstrating the presence of an outage threshold solely due to hardware impairments. Furthermore, if transmission rate exceeds the outage threshold defined by the level of hardware impairments, reliable communication within the system under consideration cannot be achieved, regardless of the transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). © 2024 The Authors

In the field of automated language processing, distinguishing between Moroccan Arabic (Darija) in multilingual contexts is a major challenge. This study addresses this challenge by exploiting feature selection techniques to improve the accuracy of tongue detection. Using a comprehensive methodology integrating various feature selection methods, including TF-idf, CBOW, Word2Vec for feature extraction, LASSO regression, decision trees for machine learning techniques, and statistical feature selection such as ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Mutual information, alongside semantic techniques by developing our semantic encoders adapted to Arabic data, we strive to uncover the most important, relevant language features while attenuating the noise. As a result, we have obtained robust results by applying the famous XGBOOST, with conventional extraction methods and SVD as a dimensional reduction method with a very reasonable execution time. Our experimental results highlight the effectiveness of feature selection techniques to reinforce supervised learning tasks. This research not only advances the field of natural language processing but also highlights the central role of feature selection in deciphering complex linguistic landscapes. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

The Fortran programming language is widely utilized in numerical computation and scientific computing. Fortran programs are prone to potential runtime errors related to numerical properties due to the large number of numerical operations. In this paper, we present F-IKOS, an abstract interpretation-based static analyzer for Fortran programs on top of IKOS, which soundly handles floating-point types in Fortran programs. Firstly, we translate Fortran programs to LLVM IR using compiler front-end Flang. After that, we extend IKOS to support sound floating-point analysis and then employ it to analyze the translated LLVM IR. Particularly, when analyzing floating-point types in programs, we first abstract floating-point expressions into real-number expressions with interval coefficients, and then linearize these expressions into real-number expressions with scalar coefficients. These linear expressions are subsequently handled by abstract domains originally designed for real-number types to produce sound analysis results. We have conducted experiments on representative Fortran programs to show the efficiency and effectiveness of F-IKOS. The experimental results are encouraging: F-IKOS soundly analyzes runtime errors in complex programs, outperforming other analyzers. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Aperiodically intermittent H∞ synchronization of coupled complex-valued neural networks with and without parameter uncertainties

In this paper, we investigate aperiodically intermittent H∞ synchronization and robustly aperiodically intermittent H∞ synchronization for both coupled complex-valued neural networks (CCVNNs) and coupled complex-valued delayed neural networks (CCVDNNs). Initially, certain synchronization criteria for CCVNNs are established using suitable Lyapunov functionals in conjunction with a variety of inequality techniques. Furthermore, we also examine robust synchronization of CCVNNs, taking into account the impact of parameter uncertainties in neural networks. In addition, the corresponding aperiodically intermittent H∞ synchronization and robustly aperiodically intermittent H∞ synchronization results are generalized to the network of CCVDNNs, in which the activation function is time-varying delayed. Finally, two numerical examples prove the reliability and the benefits of the proposed results. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Physical Unclonable Function(PUF)-based security protocols are effective in mitigating various security threats, including eavesdropping, interception, and cloning. Nevertheless, most existing protocols are implemented in software, with the primary drawback being their inability to integrate with actual PUF and their inefficiency. Although some strategies incorporate PUF into their design, these systems do not allow for configuration changes and are deficient in flexibility. In this paper, we propose the CoDPoC IP, a configurable data protection circuit that supports PUF-based various key agreement authentication schemes and allows for flexible scheme design adjustments through configurable registers. The CoDPoC IP offers two advantages: 1) hardware-level implementation incorporates PUF, leading to higher resource utilization, efficiency, and security;and 2) the IP supports flexible configuration of schemes. Experimental results indicate that the hardware execution time is 0.03504 milliseconds. Instant delivery has become a fundamental service in people's daily lives. Different from the traditional express service, the instant delivery has a strict shipping time constraint after being ordered. However, the labor shortage makes it challenging to realize efficient instant delivery. To tackle the problem, researchers have studied to introduce vehicles (i.e., taxis) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs or drones) into instant delivery tasks. Unfortunately, the delivery detour of taxis and the limited battery of UAVs make it hard to meet the rapidly increasing instant delivery demands. Under this circumstance, this paper proposes an air-ground cooperative instant delivery paradigm to maximize the delivery performance and meanwhile minimize the negative effects on the taxi passengers. Specifically, a data-driven delivery potential-demands-aware cooperative strategy is designed to improve the overall delivery performance of both UAVs and taxis as well as the taxi passengers' experience. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves the delivery number by 30.1% and 114.5% compared to the taxi-based and UAV-based instant delivery respectively, and shortens the delivery time by 35.7% compared to the taxi-based instant delivery. © 2024 IEEE.
