A Novel Thermal Analysis Method for Tubular PM Linear Motors Based on Transfer Learning

Thermal modeling and analysis are critical for permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PMLSMs), particularly in multi-physical analysis and motor design optimization. This paper proposes a new method for thermal steady state modeling and analysis based on transfer learning, which combines the thermal mechanism model with the data-driven model to achieve high-precision temperature analysis with small number of finite element analysis (FEA) samples. First, an equivalent thermal circuit (ETC) model is established for PMLSMs based on the structural parameters and heat transfer principles. Second, a hybrid model based on transfer learning is developed: the model is pre-trained by a large sample set generated from the ETC in the source field (mechanism analytical model), and then the trained model is transferred to the target field (FEA data-driven model). The parameters of the neural network in the target field are optimized by a few FEA sample sets with higher precision to improve the prediction accuracy of the target model. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly boosts the performance of the deep neural network (DNN) model, particularly when training sets are small. The root mean square error (RMSE) of the DNN model decreases by 0.901 in the 5:5 (training/testing) dataset and 1.726 in the 2:8 dataset;and the corresponding R2 and maximal absolute error of motor performances are significantly decreased. The smaller the proportion of the training set, the better performance of the hybrid modeling will achieve. Furthermore, a temperature rise experiment conducted on a prototype motor validates the efficacy and precision of the proposed hybrid modeling methodology. © 2015 IEEE.

In the field of robust audio watermarking,how to seek a good trade-off between robustness and imperceptibility is challenging. The existing studies use the same embedding parameter for each part of the audio signal, which ignores that different parts may have different requirements for embedding parameters. In this work, the constraints on imperceptibility are first ***, we present a segment multi-objective optimization model of the scaling parameter under the constrained Signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) in Spread spectrum(SS)audio watermarking. Additionally, we adopt the Nondominated sorting genetic algorithm Ⅱ(NSGA-Ⅱ) to solve the proposed model. Finally, we compare our algorithm(called SS-SNR-NSGA-Ⅱ) with the existing methods. The experimental results show that the proposed SS-SNRNSGA-Ⅱ not only provides flexible choices for different application demands but also achieves more and better trade-offs between imperceptibility and robustness.

This work develops a distributed graph neural network (GNN) methodology for mesh-based modeling applications using a consistent neural message passing layer. As the name implies, the focus is on enabling scalable operations that satisfy physical consistency via halo nodes at sub-graph boundaries. Here, consistency refers to the fact that a GNN trained and evaluated on one rank (one large graph) is arithmetically equivalent to evaluations on multiple ranks (a partitioned graph). This concept is demonstrated by interfacing GNNs with NekRS, a GPU-capable exascale CFD solver developed at Argonne National laboratory. It is shown how the NekRS mesh partitioning can be linked to the distributed GNN training and inference routines, resulting in a scalable mesh-based data-driven modeling workflow. We study the impact of consistency on the scalability of mesh-based GNNs, demonstrating efficient scaling in consistent GNNs for up to O(1B) graph nodes on the Frontier exascale supercomputer. © 2024 IEEE.

Face recognition (FR) technology has numerous applications in artificial intelligence including biometrics, security,authentication, law enforcement, and surveillance. Deep learning (DL) models, notably convolutional neuralnetworks (CNNs), have shown promising results in the field of FR. However CNNs are easily fooled since theydo not encode position and orientation correlations between features. Hinton et al. envisioned Capsule Networksas a more robust design capable of retaining pose information and spatial correlations to recognize objects morelike the brain does. Lower-level capsules hold 8-dimensional vectors of attributes like position, hue, texture, andso on, which are routed to higher-level capsules via a new routing by agreement algorithm. This provides capsulenetworks with viewpoint invariance, which has previously evaded CNNs. This research presents a FR model basedon capsule networks that was tested using the LFW dataset, COMSATS face dataset, and own acquired photos usingcameras measuring 128 × 128 pixels, 40 × 40 pixels, and 30 × 30 pixels. The trained model outperforms state-ofthe-art algorithms, achieving 95.82% test accuracy and performing well on unseen faces that have been blurred orrotated. Additionally, the suggested model outperformed the recently released approaches on the COMSATS facedataset, achieving a high accuracy of 92.47%. Based on the results of this research as well as previous results, capsulenetworks perform better than deeper CNNs on unobserved altered data because of their special equivarianceproperties.

Recently, learning-based methods have made significant progress for image specular highlight removal. However, many of these approaches treat all the image pixels uniformly, overlooking the negative impact of invalid pixels on feature reconstruction. This oversight often leads to undesirable outcomes, such as color distortion or residual highlights. In this paper, we propose a novel image specular highlight removal network called HighlightRNet, which utilizes valid pixels as references to reconstruct the highlight-free image. To achieve this, we introduce a context-aware fusion block (CFBlock) that aggregates information in four directions, effectively capturing global contextual information. Additionally, we introduce a location-aware feature transformation module (LFTModule) to adaptively learn the valid pixels for feature reconstruction, thereby avoiding information errors caused by invalid pixels. With these modules, our method can produce high-quality highlight-free results without color distortion and highlight residual. Furthermore, we develop a multiple light image-capturing system to construct a large-scale highlight dataset called NSH, which exhibits minimal misalignment in image pairs and minimal brightness variation in non-highlight regions. Experimental results on various datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art methods, both qualitatively and quantitatively. © 2024 ACM.

Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a prominent machine learning paradigm in edge computing environments, enabling edge devices to collaboratively optimize a global model without sharing their private data. However, existing FL frameworks suffer from efficacy deterioration due to the system heterogeneity inherent in edge computing, especially in the presence of domain shifts across local data. In this paper, we propose a heterogeneous FL framework DapperFL, to enhance model performance across multiple domains. In DapperFL, we introduce a dedicated Model Fusion Pruning (MFP) module to produce personalized compact local models for clients to address the system heterogeneity challenges. The MFP module prunes local models with fused knowledge obtained from both local and remaining domains, ensuring robustness to domain shifts. Additionally, we design a Domain Adaptive Regularization (DAR) module to further improve the overall performance of DapperFL. The DAR module employs regularization generated by the pruned model, aiming to learn robust representations across domains. Furthermore, we introduce a specific aggregation algorithm for aggregating heterogeneous local models with tailored architectures and weights. We implement DapperFL on a real-world FL platform with heterogeneous clients. Experimental results on benchmark datasets with multiple domains demonstrate that DapperFL outperforms several state-of-the-art FL frameworks by up to 2.28%, while significantly achieving model volume reductions ranging from 20% to 80%. Hadoop is currently the most popular big data processing architecture, which provides a processing framework for managing and analyzing massive data. Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is the core component for storing data in the Hadoop systems. It performs well when storing and managing large-sized files. However, it shows extremely bad performance when dealing with a large number of small files, which is reflected in the consumption of a large amount of memory space of the NameNode node and the low efficiency of accessing small files. Archive file is proposed to solve this problem. It combines small files into larger merged files for storage, and uses index files to record the relevant information of small files in the merged files. However, archive files (e.g., Hadoop Archive, MapFile) all require additional processing and multiple I/O operations to obtain index information before actually accessing the file content, which reduces the efficiency of file access. This paper proposes a novel distributed file storing mechanism called B+ Tree-Based Distributed File Storing mechanism (BTDFS), which combines a large number of small files into a merged file, records the index information of the small files in the merged file, and organizes the index information into a B+ tree for storage. Using BTDFS, while reducing the metadata consumption of the NameNode node, improves the access performance of a single small file with additional abilities, which provides convenience for analyzing a large number of small files. Finally, this paper designs corresponding experiments for the proposed BTDFS, and tests and analyzes the memory usage in N ameN ode and the access performance of small files. The experimental results show that the proposed BTDFS can effectively reduce the memory usage of the NameNode, and the efficiency of accessing small files is improved compared with state-of-the-art methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Unsupervised Martian Dust Storm Removal via Disentangled Representation Learning

Mars exploration has become a hot spot in recent years and is still advancing rapidly. However, Mars has massive dust storms that may cover many areas of the planet and last for weeks or even months. The local/global dust storms are so influential that they can significantly reduce visibility, and thereby the images captured by the cameras on the Mars rover are degraded severely. This work presents an unsupervised Martian dust storm removal network via disentangled representation learning(DRL). The core idea of the DRL framework is to use the content encoder and dust storm encoder to disentangle the degraded images into content features(on domain-invariant space) and dust storm features(on domain-specific space). The dust storm features carry the full dust storm-relevant prior knowledge from the dust storm images. The “cleaned” content features can be effectively decoded to generate more natural, faithful, clear *** primary advantages of this framework are twofold. First, it is among the first to perform unsupervised training in Martian dust storm removal with a single image, avoiding the synthetic data requirements. Second, the model can implicitly learn the dust storm-relevant prior knowledge from the real-world dust storm data sets, avoiding the design of the complicated handcrafted priors. Extensive experiments demonstrate the DRL framework’s effectiveness and show the promising performance of our network for Martian dust storm removal.
