Collaborative filtering (CF) from implicit datasets has attracted much attention in recent years. The current mainstream pairwise methods optimize the Area Under the Curve (AUC) and are empirically proven to be helpful to exploit implicit feedback, but lead to not addressing the rank-biased scenarios where positive items are supposed to be placed on the top-k positions. Although there exist listwise methods, they have low efficiency and are not particularly adequate for general implicit feedback situations. To that end, in this paper, we propose a new framework, namely Collaborative List-and-Pairwise Filtering (CLAPF), which aims to introduce pairwise thinking into listwise methods. Specifically, we first smooth a well-known rank-biased measure called Mean Average Precision (MAP) as a low-bound version to make it can be optimized. After that, we combined the objective functions of optimizing the MAP with pairwise comparisons. The CLAPF framework is a new hybrid model that provides the idea of utilizing a listwise measure in a pairwise way on implicit feedback. © 2023 IEEE.

With increasingly challenging applications for quadrotors, higher requirements are emerging for tracking accuracy and safety. While high accuracy is a prerequisite for complex tasks, safety is ensured through tolerance to actuator faults and resistance to external disturbances. In this article, adaptive robust control (ARC) integrated with Gaussian processes (GPs), i.e., ARC-GP, is proposed to achieve enhanced accuracy, fault tolerance, and anti-disturbance. These three requirements are interrelated and affected by uncertainties. The primary idea of this article is to categorize uncertainties into parametric and nonparametric types, which are then addressed through parameter adaptation and GP, respectively. First, a detailed dynamic model is established, including actuator models that reflect different types of faults corresponding to changes in different physical parameters. Then, parameter adaptation is designed, with direct and indirect methods adopted for different parameters. In particular, the actuator parameters are effectively estimated to achieve targeted fault compensation. Regarding GP for nonparametric uncertainties, its model parameters are also updated via parameter adaptation. The GP thereby also learns parameter estimation errors along with external disturbances. Accordingly, ARC controllers are designed, for which robust feedback terms are constructed to further mitigate uncertainties on the basis of the covariances predicted by GP. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed ARC-GP can actively tolerate various types of actuator faults and better resist wind disturbances. © 2013 IEEE.

The visible and near-infrared image fusion aims to generate an image that integrates complementary information from images captured in different spectral bands. However, existing fusion methods either only focus on the fusion of spatial information, or fuse spatial and spectral information without decoupling, resulting in undesirable effects such as halo artifacts, information loss, and inferior visual quality. To address these issues, we propose a Spatial-Spectral Decoupling Fusion (SSDF) framework that can effectively fuse the spatial and spectral information of visible and near-infrared images. The SSDF framework decomposes the image pairs into two main branches: the Spatial Feature Enhancement (SFE) branch and the Spectral Characteristic Preservation (SCP) branch. The SFE branch enhances the salient details in the fused image by exploiting the contrast between spatial features and generating region-based fusion weights, while the SCP branch preserves the intrinsic spectral characteristics of the scene by fusing the reflectance characteristics of visible and near-infrared images. The final image is obtained by combining the spatial and spectral information. We conduct extensive experiments to show that our SSDF method can achieve superior fusion performance in subjective visual quality and objective metrics compared with state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Heterogeneous multi-core accelerators have exhibited remarkable computational performance, establishing their competitiveness within the realm of high-performance computing. The on-chip memory to support reliable and correct data access is a crucial element of the accelerator. With the continuous scaling down of semiconductor process nodes, memory units become more susceptible to soft errors caused by Single Event Upset (SEU), thus significantly increasing the risk of memory access errors. Additionally, data interaction between cores supports a variety of granularities, making it challenging to achieve error tolerant designs for multi-granular data with low hardware overhead. This paper proposes the Light-Weight ECC (LWECC) integrated in the 64-bit accelerator’s Scalar Memory (SM) to improve the efficiency of data protection for multi-granularity memory access. LWECC adopts a software-hardware co-design approach, effectively balancing area overhead and providing comprehensive and flexible data protection. Compared to the finest-grained ECC solution as a baseline, using LWECC can reduce redundant memory area by 80.90% and ECC circuit area by 16.87%, markedly reducing the whole hardware overhead of the SM. In addition, LWECC efficiently caters to diverse application domains, supporting not only high-performance computing applications but also accommodating fine-grained memory access applications with low operational latency.

Sharding is an effective technique to improve the scalability of blockchain. It splits nodes into multiple groups so that they can process transactions in parallel. To achieve higher parallelism and concurrency at large scales, it is desirable to maintain a large number of small shards. However, simply configuring small shards easily results in a higher fraction of malicious nodes inside shards, causing shard corruption and compromising system security. Existing sharding techniques hence demand large shards, at the expense of limited concurrency. To address this limitation, we propose CoChain: a blockchain sharding system that can securely configure small shards for enhanced concurrency. CoChain allows some shards to be corrupted. For security, each shard is monitored by multiple other shards. The latter reach a cross-shard Consensus on the Consensus results of their monitored shard. Once a corrupted shard is found, its subsequent consensus will be taken over by another shard, hence recovering the system. The atmospheric scattering model is one of the most widely used model to describe the optical imaging processing of hazy images. However, the global atmospheric light used in the traditional atmospheric scattering model has limitations in describing images with varying local environmental illumination. In this paper, by extending the global atmospheric light to the local illumination, a non-uniform scattering model is proposed, which can better describe real scenes under non-uniform environmental illumination. Based on this model, an adaptive local illumination estimation for hazy image is proposed, which can adapt to the local differences of environment illumination. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can outperform the state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of not only the non-uniform scattering removal but also the adaptability. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and wildfires pose significant challenges for human intervention due to their unpredictable nature and the hazardous environments they create. In recent years, swarm robotics has emerged as a promising approach to address these challenges. Swarm robots, inspired by the collective behavior observed in nature, operate autonomously and collaboratively, offering unique advantages in disaster scenarios. These robots can rapidly deploy, adapt to dynamic environments, and pro- vide extensive coverage, making them particularly suited for search and rescue missions, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure assessment. This paper presents a comprehensive review and comparative analysis of various approaches utilizing swarm robotics to tackle natural disasters. We explore key methodologies, including decentralized coordination algorithms, communication protocols, and adaptive navigation strategies, and evaluate their effectiveness in real-world disaster scenarios. Through a detailed examination of existing literature and case studies, we highlight the strengths and limitations of each approach, providing insights into their practical applications and potential for future developments. The findings underscore the critical role of swarm robotics in enhancing disaster response capabilities, offering scalable, resilient, and efficient solutions for mitigating the impact of natural disasters. We conclude with recommendations for future research directions aimed at overcoming current limitations and advancing the field toward fully autonomous and reliable swarm-based disaster management systems.

The objective of the research consists in providing a technical-economic, and environmental assessment of renewable energy resource options. A hybrid system consisting of photovoltaic, wind turbine, tidal turbine, and hydraulic power with battery was developed from outside the network, with diesel generators providing backup power. The design of the system has been analyzed with Hybrid Multi-Energy Resource Optimization software, which simulates and optimizes the distribution of energy based on consumption and energy sources, as well as calculating pollutant gas emissions. The financial report calculated the net present and total energy unit costs. This system has been designed to satisfy the demand for energy in south-eastern Tunisia on the island of Djerba. The suggested system is the best because it considers power generation, cost of energy, emissions, and net present cost.

Augmented reality (AR) is a burgeoning interaction technology with the ability to provide users with immersive everyday experiences. Shopping is among the most common experiences. When consumers purchase products, they often encounter difficulties in obtaining detailed information relevant to their interests, such as ingredients, origin, and product comparisons, leading to frustration. This situation can be undeniably frustrating. We can use visualization technology [18] to organize it more orderly and friendly. This paper proposes a mobile augmented reality-based application framework, Product Magic Mirror (PMM), which helps to integrate basic visualization design into the application. The augmented information can be rich, e.g. they can be some visualizations and vivid data videos. In the evaluation, we simulated a goods purchase scene, and applied information to the real world by using AR. The real environment and virtual objects were superimposed on the same screen in real time, so as to achieve an experience beyond reality [24]. In our user survey, users rated our tools as a way to make better shopping choices, giving them a positive score for an immersive shopping experience. We predict that displaying information such as instructions, ingredients, and/or user review information next to products could allow consumers to make better consumption choices while reducing decision time and making shopping more immersive. © 2023 ACM.
