We investigate quantum state tomography(QST) for pure states and quantum process tomography(QPT) for unitary channels via adaptive measurements. For a quantum system with a d-dimensional Hilbert space, we first propose an adaptive protocol where only 2d. 1 measurement outcomes are used to accomplish the QST for all pure states. This idea is then extended to study QPT for unitary channels, where an adaptive unitary process tomography(AUPT) protocol of d2+d.1measurement outcomes is constructed for any unitary channel. We experimentally implement the AUPT protocol in a 2-qubit nuclear magnetic resonance system. We examine the performance of the AUPT protocol when applied to Hadamard gate, T gate(/8 phase gate), and controlled-NOT gate,respectively, as these gates form the universal gate set for quantum information processing purpose. As a comparison, standard QPT is also implemented for each gate. Our experimental results show that the AUPT protocol that reconstructing unitary channels via adaptive measurements significantly reduce the number of experiments required by standard QPT without considerable loss of fidelity.

Novel antenna design for WLAN applications comply IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n protocol is proposed. The design is based on a dielectric filled discone antenna. The antenna is characterized by omnidirectional radiation patterns in the azimuthal plane and similar to each other radiation patterns at both WLAN operational bands at 2.4GHz and 5.5GHz in the elevation plane in the angular sector from 40° to 60°.

Highly mobile wireless communication attracts much more attention currently due to the rapid development of high speed railways (HSRs) all over the world. Although the single train scenario has been well studied by now, two trains encountering scenario over the general two-way railways is also an important problem deserving to investigate. To this end, this paper concentrates on the uplink information transmission of HSRs in the two trains encountering scenario, which is modeled as a time-varying partial multiple access channel. In order to evaluate the transmission performance, the achievable rate region is utilized as a metric to characterize the tradeoff between the rates that each train can obtain under limited channel source constraint. With the help of superposition modulation and sequential interference cancelling, an optimal adaptive power allocation scheme aided by real-time position information is proposed to achieve the maximal boundary of the achievable rate region, namely alleviating the effect of encountering on information transmission to the largest extent. According to the numerical results, great improvement can be obtained by new proposed adaptive power allocation along time.

The continuous-variable version of quantum key distribution (QKD) offers the advantages (over discrete-variable systems) of higher secret key rates in metropolitan areas, as well as the use of standard telecom components that can operate at room temperature. An important step in the real-world adoption of continuous-variable QKD is the deployment of field tests over commercial fibers. Here we report two different field tests of a continuous-variable QKD system through commercial fiber networks in Xi’an and Guangzhou over distances of 30.02 km (12.48 dB) and 49.85 km (11.62 dB), respectively. We achieve secure key rates two orders-of-magnitude higher than previous field test demonstrations by employing an efficient calibration model with one-time evaluation. This accomplishment is also realized by developing a fully automatic control system which stabilizes system noise, and by applying a rate-adaptive reconciliation method which maintains high reconciliation efficiency with high success probability in fluctuated environments. Our results pave the way to deploy continuous-variable QKD in metropolitan settings. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

It's always difficult to satisfy both strict requirements of dynamic performance and settling performance of high-precision and high-acceleration point-to-point motions on electronic packaging equipment, i.e., Die bonders, Wire bonders, Flip-chip bonders, Wafer bumping machines, and so on. Focusing on this difficulty, Fuzzy logic is promoted in this paper to fine tune feed forward coefficient parameters of motion systems on packaging equipment to satisfy multiple targets of dynamic and settling performance requirements. This intelligent fine tuning approach, with achievable multiple motion targets, provides a therapy to automate and optimize motion system performance on packaging equipment, help on development and mass production of semiconductor packaging equipment, and improve machine intelligence.

Massive routinely-acquired raw volumetric datasets are hard to be deeply exploited by cyber worlds related downstream applications due to the challenges in accurate and efficient shape modeling. This paper systematically advocates an interactive 3D shape modeling framework for raw volumetric datasets by iteratively optimizing Hessian-constrained local implicit surfaces. The key idea is to incorporate contour based interactive segmentation into the generalized local implicit surface reconstruction. Our framework allows a user to flexibly define derivative constraints up to the second order via intuitively placing contours on the cross sections of volumetric images and fine-tuning the eigenvector frame of Hessian matrix. It enables detail-preserving local implicit representation while combating certain difficulties due to ambiguous image regions, low-quality irregular data, close sheets, and massive coefficients involved extra computing burden. Moreover, we conduct extensive experiments on some volumetric images with blurry object boundaries, and make comprehensive, quantitative performance evaluation between our method and the state-of-the-art radial basis function based techniques. All the results demonstrate our method's advantages in the accuracy, detail-preserving, efficiency, and versatility of shape modeling.

As metabolic pathways are highly variable among different patients, then an accurate and continuous monitoring of the personal response to drug treatments is essential especially with critical medications, e.g. anesthetic and anti-cancer cocktails. Currently, for anesthesia monitoring, there are no fully mature point-of-care bio-sensing systems. Indeed, it is still evaluated by mathematical models and with indirect parameters like Bispectral Index, which can not provide the actual concentration in blood. The aim of this paper is to investigate solutions for developing a portable system able to monitor simultaneously several different drugs. For this purpose, Cyclic Voltammetries with an anesthetic product and therapeutic compounds were performed for the validation of the system. A multichannel potentiostat has been realized with Off-The-Shelf Components (COTS). Then, results from electrochemical acquisitions on GC SPEs show that the proposed circuitry is suitable for this aim and they prove its high flexibility to develop portable systems for continuous monitoring of anesthetics and therapeutic compounds.

In many control problems, not all states can be measured and the system is subject to parametric uncertainties, measurement noise, and hard input constraints. To tackle such problems for linear systems, we propose to combine a recursive parameter and state estimator based on Bayes' theorem with a stochastic model predictive control approach. To efficiently obtain the probability density functions for the random variables and to propagate the uncertainties, Polynomial chaos theory is used. The parameter and state distributions are recursively estimated via Bayes' theorem, which is solved as a nonlinear least-squares problem. These distributions are utilized in a polynomial chaos based robust model predictive controller to steer the system to the desired reference while satisfying input constraints. The efficiency and properties of the resulting output feedback strategy are illustrated with two example systems, a simple paper-machine example, and the control of a chemical process.
