We introduce a novel framework for analyzing reinforcement learning (RL) in continuous state-action spaces, and use it to prove fast rates of convergence in both off-line and on-line settings. Our analysis highlights two key stability properties, relating to how changes in value functions and/or policies affect the Bellman operator and occupation measures. We argue that these properties are satisfied in many continuous state-action Markov decision processes. Our analysis also offers fresh perspectives on the roles of pessimism and optimism in off-line and on-line RL. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the problem of collaborative vehicle sensing is investigated. In the considered model, a set of cooperative vehicles provide sensing information to sensing request vehicles with limited sensing and communication resources. A base station (BS) determines the subset of sensing request vehicles that each cooperative vehicle will serve and the sub-regions that each cooperative vehicle will detect. We formulate an optimization problem aiming to maximize the number of successfully detected sub-regions of sensing request vehicles while satisfying the cooperative sensing energy requirement by jointly determining the cooperative vehicle association and the sensing sub-region selection. To solve this problem, we propose a graph attention based reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm that can generate the graph information vectors based on the correlation between each cooperative vehicle and each sensing request vehicle. Using the learned graph information, the joint cooperative vehicle association and sensing sub-region selection strategy will be determined. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the number of successfully detected sub-regions of sensing request vehicles by up to 12.5% compared to the conventional RL algorithm without using graph attention networks (GANs). © 2024 IEEE.

The spectral resolution and spatial resolution of hyperspectral remote sensing images are mutually limited. To keep the same signal-to-noise ratio, the spatial resolution will decrease when the spectral resolution improves. The targets in low-resolution hyperspectral image, such as airplanes, cars and ships, appear as several pixels or sub-pixels. Current hyperspectral target detection methods mainly focus on pixel-level targets, which process spectral information and simple neighbourhood-pixel-related information in a pixel-by-pixel detection strategy. The contribution of spatial features is limited, and it takes a long time to train and detect pixel-by-pixel. Inspired by the deep learning-based object detection technologies for RGB images, we designed a hyperspectral image target detection method based on spectral-spatial features integrated YOLOv4-tiny network (SS-YOLONet). The 3D hyperspectral images were directly sent to the detection network, their spectral information and complex spatial features were extracted by channel attention module, spatial attention module and 3D convolution. Considering the small size of targets such as airplanes, we extracted two shallow features for small-scale objects. In the experiment, we used the pansharpened EO-1 hyperspectral images to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2022 ACM.

This paper considers the equilibrium-free stability and performance analysis of discrete-time nonlinear systems. We consider two types of equilibrium-free notions. Namely, the universal shifted concept, which considers stability and performance w.r.t. all equilibrium points of the system, and the incremental concept, which considers stability and performance between trajectories of the system. In this paper, we show how universal shifted stability and performance of discrete-time systems can be analyzed by making use of the time-difference dynamics. Moreover, we extend the existing results for incremental dissipativity for discrete-time systems based on dissipativity analysis of the differential dynamics to more general state-dependent storage functions for less conservative results. Finally, we show how both these equilibrium-free notions can be cast as a convex analysis problem by making use of the linear parameter-varying framework, which is also demonstrated by means of an example. The present work strives to investigate the effect of using dimensionality reduction techniques (DRTs) on breast cancer (BC) classification problem. Primarily, we focused on the following five (DRTs): Auto-Encoders (AE), T-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (T- SNE), Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE), Isometric Feature Mapping (Isomap), and Principle Component analysis (PCA). These methods are combined with two famous classifiers that are Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Multilayer perceptron (MLP). They are used for BC classification. Breast Cancer Wisconsin Diagnostic (WDBC) data set was used to validate the experiments of this work. The former was provided by the University of California, Irvine (UCI) machine learning repository. The results demonstrated that combining MLP with the chosen (DRTs) methods increased the classification accuracy for almost all built models by at least 0.7%. In addition, they revealed a decrease in the classification accuracy using SVM as a classifier for almost all built models. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Point clouds from real-world scenarios inevitably contain complex noise, significantly impairing the accuracy of downstream tasks. To tackle this challenge, cascading encoder-decoder architecture has become a conventional technical route to iterative denoise. However, circularly feeding the output of denoiser as its input again involves the re-extraction of underlying surface, leading to unstable denoising process and over-smoothed geometric details. To address these issues, we propose a novel denoising paradigm dubbed PD-Refiner that employs a single encoder to model the underlying surface. Then, we leverage several lightweight hierarchical Underlying Surface Inheritance Refiners (USIRs) to inherit and strengthen it, thereby avoiding the re-extraction from the intermediate point cloud. Furthermore, we design adaptive edge-aware supervision to improve the edge awareness of the USIRs, allowing for the adjustment of the denoising preferences from global structure to local details. The results demonstrate that our method not only achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of denoising stability and efficacy, but also enhances edge clarity and point cloud uniformity. © 2024 ACM.

Device-to-Device (D2D) communications is one of the promising technologies for future fifth-generation cellular networks (5G). The first step to enable D2D communication is to discover neighbor devices and choose which will establish a D2D communication link. The limited battery life, discovery resources and the growing number of devices bind the current discovery protocols, so we need to find a new discovery protocol that goes with the next 5G cellular network. In this paper, we propose a new discovery protocol "MEC Discovery"based on Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) for D2D communication in 5G. The MEC server will discover neighbor devices for a User Equipment (UE) when requested and keep track of discovered devices in case other UEs ask for the same information with D2D mode in the near future. Our simulation results indicate a huge dropping in power consumption by the UE and reduced interferences caused by many devices doing discovery simultaneously in the same area. © 2024 IEEE.

The work reported in this article addresses the challenge of building models for non-trivial aerobatic aircraft maneuvers in an automated fashion. It is built using a Behavioural Cloning approach where human pilots provide a set of example maneuvers used by a Machine Learning algorithm to induce a control model for each maneuver. The best examples for each maneuver were selected using a set of objective evaluation metrics. Using those example sets, robust models were induced that could replicate (and in some cases outperform) the human pilots that provided the examples (the clean-up effect). Complete complex maneuvers were performed using a meta-controller capable of sequencing the basic ones learned by imitation. This endeavor was rewarded by the results that show several Machine Learning models capable of performing highly complex aircraft maneuvers. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Given the critical role of rotating machinery in industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPS), ensuring their reliable operation is essential for the stability and safety of ICPS. Deep neural networks have demonstrated competitive results for intelligent fault diagnosis, which are usually trained via the historical data of all fault modes. However, in real engineering, it is usually difficult to collect samples and exhaust all failures during the training stage. As a result, out-of-distribution fault diagnosis (OOD-FD) becomes a more realistic problem that requires the methods to not only accurately diagnose the known faults, but also effectively recognize unknown ones. Therefore, a novel orthogonal anchor clustering with focal attention (FA-OAC) is proposed in this paper for OOD-FD. Firstly, an orthogonal anchor clustering (OAC) algorithm is proposed to fix the class center of each fault mode orthogonally and distinguish the known and unknown faults at the class level. Then, because the identifiability of different fault modes changes a lot in OOD-FD, the focal attention mechanism is applied to dynamically adjust the attention to different fault modes according to the distance loss of OAC, thus addressing the identifiability imbalance problem. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, different OOD-FD tasks are designed based on two rotating machinery datasets. The experimental results and comparison with state-of-the-art fault diagnosis methods have demonstrated that the proposed method has improved the OOD-FD performance greatly and therefore provides an effective tool in real engineering. © 2023 IEEE.

The ever increasing demand for massive connectivity, combined with the specific characteristics of machinegenerated wireless traffic, is pushing the existing solutions for device registration and data transfer beyond their operational limits. In this paper, we target specifically the 3GPP 5G New Radio random access channel, proposing some enhancements inspired by recent research results in the field of unsourced multiple access (UMAC). Aiming to enable massive grant-free connectivity for large machine-type and Internet of things terminals, we focus on modifications of the two-step random access procedures originally introduced in 3GPP Release 16. By means of simulations, we show that remarkable gains in both energy and spectral efficiency can be attained while retaining a strong resemblance to the legacy protocol. © 2024 IEEE.
