One-shot handwriting imitation via self-supervised cross spatial transformer networks

Generating stylized characters has been a focus of research for a long time. However, current font-led algorithms in the field of handwriting generation often perform suboptimally due to severe geometric distortion among handwriting samples. Additionally, the non-Euclidean characteristic of hidden embedding is identified as another key issue in our research. To address shape distortion, we propose a Self-Supervised Style Learning (SSL) method, aiming to increase the skeleton similarity between the output image and target. Furthermore, to enhance the Euclidean spatial distributions of the generator, this paper introduces a joint spatial transformer by refining the fusion process of content and style information using an attention mechanism. Moreover, the training process of the current GAN is reformed to meet the requirements of SSL. As a result, the proposed method enriches the calligraphy diversity of stylized handwriting generation compared to existing font generation algorithms. Evaluation of the proposed method using a public Chinese handwriting database demonstrates that our approach generates handwriting images with superior quality, stroke correctness, and calligraphy similarity when compared to other prevailing font imitation methods. © 2025

Human motion prediction is a fundamental task in human-robot interaction and self-driving. Many existing human motion prediction methods use one encoder to embed the historical human poses and one decoder to predict future motion poses. We believe that it is possible to estimate the deviation of the decoding results from the groundtruth and use this estimation to further enhance the prediction results. A single deviation estimator cannot deal with all the human body components due to the varying motion dynamics. In this work, we adopt five independent lightweight branches to estimate the deviation of five human body components (i.e., left arm, right arm, torso, left leg, and right leg). Based on this component-wise deviation estimation strategy, we propose a Component-wise Self-Correction Network (CSCNet) to realize human motion prediction. Extensive experiments show that the CSCNet obtains state-of-the-art performance on three benchmarks, i.e., H3.6M, CMU-Mocap, and 3DPW.

Drought is an environmental and economic problem. Sustainable ecosystems, water resources, food security, and ecosystem sustainability. Machine all are severely affected by drought. Due to the increasing frequency and severity of droughts caused by climate change. Effective drought modeling is crucial for early warning systems and risk mitigation. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques have been developed as potential drought modeling tools, which offer accurate and reliable drought detection. This review paper summarizes the drought modeling(Drought Prediction, Drought Detection and Drought Forecasting) approaches. This paper focuses on three main aspect. 1) The selection of the region for this study, for this study South Asia(SA) is selected as region of interest (ROI) that offer accurate drought modeling, providing policymakers and decision-makers with insightful information. The geographical scope of this study is the region of South Asia. This region is selected because of its heavy reliance on agriculture. 2) This paper focuses on the current and future trends, challenges, and advances of and vulnerability to droughts. The review offers a thorough grasp of how drought conditions are evaluated by gathering and analyzing the most important drought indicators and metrics specific to South Asia. The paper explores the current state-of-the-art in ML and DL for drought modeling. 3) This review encapsulates the indicator and metrics (Complex Machine learning and deep learning models) for drought modeling which are most relevant to the SA region. This study sum up as most common challenges in drought modeling are, highlighting current challenges such as incomplete and inconsistent datasets, lack of explainable and interpretable models, and unavailability of data for model uncertainty analysis. Distributed Prescribed-Time Observer for Nonlinear systems in Block-Triangular Form

This letter proposes a design of a distributed prescribed-time observer for nonlinear systems representable in a block-triangular observable canonical form. Using a weighted average of neighbor estimates exchanged over a strongly connected digraph, each observer estimates the system state despite the limited observability of local sensor measurements. The proposed design guarantees that distributed state estimation errors converge to zero at a user-specified convergence time, irrespective of observers’ initial conditions. To achieve this prescribed-time convergence, distributed observers implement time-varying local output injection gains that monotonically increase and approach infinity at the prescribed time. The theoretical convergence is rigorously proven and validated through numerical simulations, where some implementation issues due to increasing gains have also been clarified.

Given the critical role of rotating machinery in industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPS), ensuring their reliable operation is essential for the stability and safety of ICPS. Deep neural networks have demonstrated competitive results for intelligent fault diagnosis, which are usually trained via the historical data of all fault modes. However, in real engineering, it is usually difficult to collect samples and exhaust all failures during the training stage. As a result, out-of-distribution fault diagnosis (OOD-FD) becomes a more realistic problem that requires the methods to not only accurately diagnose the known faults, but also effectively recognize unknown ones. Therefore, a novel orthogonal anchor clustering with focal attention (FA-OAC) is proposed in this paper for OOD-FD. Firstly, an orthogonal anchor clustering (OAC) algorithm is proposed to fix the class center of each fault mode orthogonally and distinguish the known and unknown faults at the class level. Then, because the identifiability of different fault modes changes a lot in OOD-FD, the focal attention mechanism is applied to dynamically adjust the attention to different fault modes according to the distance loss of OAC, thus addressing the identifiability imbalance problem. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, different OOD-FD tasks are designed based on two rotating machinery datasets. The experimental results and comparison with state-of-the-art fault diagnosis methods have demonstrated that the proposed method has improved the OOD-FD performance greatly and therefore provides an effective tool in real engineering. © 2023 IEEE.

Belief Roadmaps with Uncertain Landmark Evanescence

We would like a robot to navigate to a goal location while minimizing state uncertainty. To aid the robot in this endeavor, maps provide a prior belief over the location of objects and regions of interest. To localize itself within the map, a robot identifies mapped landmarks using its sensors. However, as the time between map creation and robot deployment increases, portions of the map can become stale, and landmarks, once believed to be permanent, may disappear. We refer to the propensity of a landmark to disappear as landmark evanescence. Reasoning about landmark evanescence during path planning, and the associated impact on localization accuracy, requires analyzing the presence or absence of each landmark, leading to an exponential number of possible outcomes of a given motion plan. To address this complexity, we develop BRULE, an extension of the Belief Roadmap. During planning, we replace the belief over future robot poses with a Gaussian mixture which is able to capture the effects of landmark evanescence. Furthermore, we show that belief updates can be made efficient, and that maintaining a random subset of mixture components is sufficient to find high quality solutions. This study focuses on the exploration of five novel π-conjugated organic compounds for potential incorporation into organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The molecular structure of these compounds follows a D-Di-D setup, with a carbazole acting as the D component, and the specific Di component varying based on the donor utilized. Through analysis at the DFT/B3LYP/6-31G (d, p) level, including the determination of HOMO–LUMO energy values, after optimizing the molecules' ground state, the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) was studied using Egap band gap. Utilizing the TD-DFT and ZINDO method the optical properties like absorption (λmax) and emission (λem) were explored. Based on SILVACO-TCAD software, the estimated current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the two most efficient molecules were obtained. The indices of the studied molecules calculated from these interactions indicates that the molecules have sufficient properties which allow these molecules to be considered promising candidates for use in OLED devices as high-performing active materials.

Gaussian-Process-based Adaptive Tracking Control with Dynamic Active Learning for Autonomous Ground Vehicles

This article proposes an active-learning-based adaptive trajectory tracking control method for autonomous ground vehicles to compensate for modeling errors and unmodeled dynamics. The nominal vehicle model is decoupled into lateral and longitudinal subsystems, which are augmented with online Gaussian Processes (GPs), using measurement data. The estimated mean functions of the GPs are used to construct a feedback compensator, which, together with an LPV state feedback controller designed for the nominal system, gives the adaptive control structure. To assist exploration of the dynamics, the paper proposes a new, dynamic active learning method to collect the most informative samples to accelerate the training process. To analyze the performance of the overall learning tool-chain provided controller, a novel iterative, counterexample-based algorithm is proposed for calculating the induced L2 gain between the reference trajectory and the tracking error. The analysis can be executed for a set of possible realizations of the to-be-controlled system, giving robust performance certificate of the learning method under variation of the vehicle dynamics. The efficiency of the proposed control approach is shown on a high-fidelity physics simulator and in real experiments using a 1/10 scale F1TENTH electric car. © 2025, CC BY.

Area-Oriented Resubstitution For Networks of Look-Up Tables

This paper addresses the challenge of reducing the number of nodes in Look-Up Table (LUT) networks with two significant applications. First, Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) can be modelled as networks of LUTs, and minimizing the node count is imperative to meet resource constraints. Second, in area-oriented design space exploration for standard-cell designs, collapsing a circuit into a LUT network, restructuring it, and later remapping to the original representation helps escape local minima. Thus, the development of algorithms for optimizing and restructuring LUT networks holds considerable promise for area-oriented optimization. Substitution (also called resubstitution) is a powerful logic minimization method that can identify non-local logic dependencies and exploit them for logic minimization. State-of-the-art substitution algorithms for LUT networks rely heavily on SAT solving, limiting the number of optimization attempts and the size of the substitution sub-networks to one node mishchenko2011scalable. Conversely, our method relies on circuit simulation to increase the number of substitution candidates and enables substitutions with more than one node. The experimental results show that the proposed method identifies optimization opportunities overlooked by other methods, improving 11 out of 23 best-known results in the EPFL synthesis competition and yielding a 3.46% area reduction compared to the state-of-the-art. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Emerging cross-point memory can in-situ perform vector-matrix multiplication (VMM) for energy-efficient scientific computation. However, parasitic-capacitance-induced row charging and discharging latency is a major performance bottleneck of subarray VMM. We propose a memory-timing-compliant bulk VMM processing-using-memory design with row access and column access co-optimization from rethinking of read access commands and μ-op timing. We propose row-level-parallelism-adaptive timing termination mechanism to reduce tail latency of tRCD and tRP by exploiting row nonlinear charging and bulk-interleaved row-column-cooperative VMM access mechanism to reduce tRAS and overlap CL without increasing column ADC precision. Evaluations show that our design can achieve 5.03× performance speedup compared with an aggressive baseline.
