With this work, a research contribution in the field of reliability theory has been made, with which a realistic prognosis of reliability parameters of technical systems can be carried out. The motivation to deal with this topic resulted from the realization that the prognosis quality of established prognosis models must be optimized. An early and realistic prognosis of reliability parameters contributes to the success of a concern, mainly through the early implementation of quality measures. The work focuses on the development of a new multivariate prognosis model, which uses multivariate stress parameters as reference variables. Its application enables the prediction of reliability parameters for electronic control units. The predicted reliability parameters can be specified as stress-dependent (bivariate/multivariate) or time-dependent variables. While univariate reference quantities usually use the time dwell time of a technical system, the prognosis model newly presented here can process multivariate reference quantities. During the time in the field, technical systems are not only exposed to different usage behavior, but also to other stresses and influences that make a not inconsiderable contribution to failure. The use of time in the field as a univariate reference variable does not allow for this differentiated consideration and does not take into account relevant information in the reliability analysis. All existing prediction models have in common that only univariate reference parameters can be processed. For a fully comprehensive reliability analysis, all stress variables that lead to a failure must be considered. This is not sufficiently possible with a simple univariate approach. With the new approaches, it is now possible for the first time to consider different stress variables, their changes and their effects on the technical system under investigation in a field data analysis. Road accidents have been known to be one of the leading death causes around the world for a long time. Thus, cars and all kinds of road vehicles form a huge source of danger, and they relate to multiple high risks. There are many factors that can contribute to road traffic accidents such as the health condition of the driver if a medical emergency event happened while driving, drowsiness, or mind-wandering. The proposed system can monitor the behavior of the driver while driving as well as his/her health status. Moreover, it analyzes the monitored data, alerts the driver in a timely manner, and assists him/her in adjusting the driving behavior. Different dangerous and risky situations which can be faced during driving can be captured and avoided by using such a system which leads at the end to increase road traffic safety and reduce vehicle collisions. Notifications are developed in cases of drowsiness, loss of focus, or other concerns that may emerge while driving. However, when the driver's ability to operate the vehicle safely is hampered by a health concern, the implemented system is only able at this stage to alarm the driver itself and the surrounding cars as a first level of alarms.

Optical speed sensors based on the spatial frequency filter method are a proven technology that offer high measurement accuracy over a wide speed range. Newly developed variants also enable measurements at very low speeds and increase the robustness of the method [1]. This makes the sensor very suitable for use in the area of functional safety. A measurement chain up to safety integrity level 3 (SIL3) should be feasible via a combination with a safety system on a chip (SoC) for evaluating the measurement data and an extension of the sensor module to include safety-related elements [2], [3]. By integrating the sensor at IC level, a compact overall solution is to be made possible. After the first successful tests with the safety SoC, further examinations of the measuring method with regard to functional safety are now necessary.

This paper introduces a novel and comprehensive approach for estimating the reliability of safety critical software components in autonomous vehicle motion systems. The proposed approach in this paper presents a combination software reliability model (CSRM) that integrates multiple non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) software reliability growth models (SRGMs) to achieve a reasonable compromise between accuracy, the trade-off between the goodness of fit and the simplicity, and stability. By using machine learning techniques, the CSRM effectively combines the strengths of individual SRGMs while mitigating their weaknesses through suitable evaluation and calibration techniques. The developed CSRM has been successfully applied and validated to facilitate a smoother and more efficient evaluation of reliability targets for software components in autonomous robotic wheelchair (ARW). Based on the validation results, the new CSRM has significantly enhanced the efficiency of the process for evaluating whether the defined reliability goals were being achieved. Furthermore, has facilitated a more accurate assessment of the need for further test executions and better planning of the required verification and validation session. This new approach provides valuable insights into the reliability of the developed software, particularly for software developers lacking extensive experience in identifying and applying appropriate SGRM.

Independent mobility is an important feature of an individual's normal life and with the elderly population continually growing, assistive devices such as walkers and canes provide help and guidance to users. Freezing of Gait (FoG) is an episodic phenomenon that is a common symptom of an age-related disease known as Parkinson Disease (PD). This paper is headed toward implementing a detection, diagnosis and correction system for FoG episodes. The proposed cane will generate visual, auditory and tactile cues to help patients overcome this problem, therefore reducing fall risks. In addition, a vibrating calf cuff will be attached to the calf for muscle stimulation. A compatible android phone application is designed to display heart rate measurements of the patient as well as his exact location in case of fall detection. The system is considered to be an electrically safe, portable, comfortable and a low-cost device. The performance of this system is analyzed thoroughly and the accuracy of all methodologies is considered carefully and evaluated. The results have shown no faulty errors and good accuracy and detection percentages. © 2021 IEEE.

Visually impaired people encounter several challenges in their mobility and navigation. Their daily activities are obstructed due to their inability to adapt or recognize accurately their surroundings, especially outside their house which they are more familiar with. Thus, it becomes the main reason of accidents, falling off, getting lost in unknown areas, etc. Furthermore, one of the sensory systems that helps the body to process data about the external environment is the visual system. Blind people also lose touch with the outside world, develops poor motor habits, which results in postural problems as a result. This project will assist visually impaired people in their daily life and simplify normal tasks through a system combining two previously designed projects, 'Smart Shoes for Blind and Visually Impaired People', and 'Human posture monitoring device'. The multifunctional system is developed with the goal of securing safe movements for visually impaired people as well as maintaining a good back posture by detecting leaning postures (LP). The purpose of the smart shoe is to identify obstacles and protect the user from unintended accidents. A compatible Android application has been developed to alert the user when there is an obstruction or when he is walking on a wet surface. Voice alarms will be used to acoustically alert the user. If the user collapses, a message with their position will be sent right away to a relative. On the other hand, the smart vest will identify the position of the user's back and alert him to maintain a straight posture through the same application as well. As the system is dealing with human health, some safety measurements would be taken into consideration to implement a safe electrical system in order to reduce error and to increase accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

The next milestone in the automotive industry is to achieve the complete autonomous driving capability. This demands high performance computing controllers and a larger number of Electronic Controller Units (ECUs) for realizing this goal. Also, the current shift towards electric cars where the battery capacity is limited, urges for new efficient approaches. Therefore, developing compact, miniaturized integrated controller that encompasses all the features is essential for minimizing the power consumption. At the same time, this approach of ECUs must also ensure the cost efficiency. To address and handle this need, the reduction in the ECUs numbers is necessary to reduce the cost factor but at the same time not compromising on the functionalities. Therefore, the approach of integrating these individual features in a single ECU is a promising way forward, i.e., system-on-Chip (SoC). To design and implement such an SoC for the automotive industry that ensures the safe operation of the controlled functions, it must follow a particular development criterion according to the ISO 26262 - functional safety of the road vehicles. This work focuses on the development of an SoC according to the ISO 26262 standard based on ARM Cortex M3 architecture which is an attractive candidate due to its low cost and low power consumption.

Various research institutions and semiconductor manufacturers have presented approaches for miniaturized safety systems based on redundant configurations in the last years. ICAS has been working on approaches for Safety systems on Chip (SoC) since 2005 and has developed several certified variants of safety SoCs in this context together with well-known safety manufacturers. In parallel, the further development of the architecture of safety SoCs was also driven forward and manifested with the ReSCU-V1 in 2018. A logical consequence is the development of the ReSCU-V2, with which further architectural developments of the safe SoC design at ICAS in Kassel have succeeded with a practically completely redundant architecture. The resulting SoC was realized on a 180 nm process from UMC. It has a chip size of 5×5 mm and consumes less than 500 mW of power.

The mechanical force imparted by industrial robots is enormous and can lead to dangerous situations for human workers and property if they malfunction. system designs based on the redundancy concept are essential to avoid or mitigate the resulting risk, which is recommended by the various safety standards. In this paper, a 1oo2D based safety SoC that provides multiple Ethernet communication interfaces is presented. Two different design approaches are implemented using the in-house FPGA development board based on the LEON3 soft processor. The software algorithms for each approach are developed and verified.
