The electroencephalogram (EEG) serves as a significant tool in the realms of clinical medicine, cerebral investigation, and neurological disorders research. However, the EEG records we obtain are often easily contaminated by various artifacts, which can blur or distort the underlying EEG signals and make data interpretation difficult. Generally speaking, removing EEG artifacts is considered an essential step in brain signal analysis. Therefore, removing artifacts is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable EEG signals for subsequent analysis. Recently, deep learning techniques have found widespread application across various domains for denoising tasks, including image denoising and EEG denoising. Many advanced algorithms have been developed in image denoising, which has achieved good results in enhancing low-quality images. Moreover, it has shown superior performance in EEG denoising. In contrast, few people have devoted themselves to studying EEG denoising, and existing convolutional neural network EEG denoising methods still have problems of overfitting and poor denoising effect in Electromyograph(EMG) and ElectroOculoGram(EOG) artifact removal. Therefore, this paper proposes a method called DWINet (De-artifacting with Image-based Network for EEG Signals) based on an image dehazing network DRHNet for removing artifacts from EEG signals. Specifically, our approach DWINet, addresses the de-artifacting issue in EEG signals by converting it as an image dehazing problem and utilizes the image dehazing capability of DRHNet to enhance the denoising performance of EEG signals. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the compared algorithms in removing the ocular artifact in EEG signals and exhibits higher accuracy and robustness. © 2024, J. This paper introduces an innovative approach for determining the dynamic stability margin of a power system. The method employs a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to optimize the parameters of a Conventional Power System Stabilizer (CPSS) linked with the automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) in a multi-machine power system. The objective is to tune the stabilizers in a way that effectively shifts the lightly damped and undamped electromechanical modes of all plants to a specified region in the s-plane. To achieve this, a multiobjective problem is formulated, optimizing a composite set of objective functions that include the damping factor of the lightly damped electromechanical modes. The dynamic behavior of the system is assessed using small signal stability analysis, while the stability of the system is evaluated by monitoring the variations of eigenvalues under line-to-ground (LG) fault conditions. The proposed method is then demonstrated on a 3-machine 9-bus system, and the effectiveness and robustness of the suggested Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) are showcased by incorporating them into a conventional AVR-PSS model. This allows the proposed approach to efficiently damp low-frequency oscillations in the power system.

The paper presents a novel observer design method for estimating the front and rear wheel slips of the vehicle. The proposed observer design technique consists of two parts: A simple linear observer algorithm, which uses a reformulated lateral vehicle model to estimate the tire slips. The second part is based on an ultra-local model. The main goal of the ultra-local model is to eliminate the nonlinear, unmodeled, uncertain dynamics of the lateral vehicle model. In this way, the performance level of the linear observer can be significantly increased especially under critical circumstances such as high lateral acceleration maneuvers or driving on a low µ surface. The proposed observer algorithm is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink environment connected to the high-fidelity simulation software, CarMaker. The operation and the effectiveness of the proposed observer are demonstrated through several simulation examples.

Constructing a holistic digital twin of a system composed of multiple physical domains is crucial for various tasks. In particular, when the simulation is extended with faults, it becomes a very important resource to achieve robust functional safety analysis. This article proposes a new methodology to build non-electrical fault models for the thermal domain. Such thermal faults are defined through an electrical circuit representing the thermal behavior of the system, known as the Cauer network, based on the physical analogies between the two domains. Including this thermal representation in a multi-domain system allows to simulate the interconnections between different physical domains, thus achieving a more realistic system behavior and evaluating the mutual impact of different domains (e.g., mechanical, electrical and thermal). The entire methodology is applied to a complex case of study implemented by using Verilog-AMS as a proof of concept.

Detecting the anomaly of human behavior is paramount to timely recognizing endangering situations, such as street fights or elderly falls. However, anomaly detection is complex, since anomalous events are rare and because it is an open set recognition task, i.e., what is anomalous at inference has not been observed at training. We propose COSKAD, a novel model which encodes skeletal human motion by an efficient graph convolutional network and learns to COntract SKeletal kinematic embeddings onto a latent hypersphere of minimum volume for Anomaly Detection. We propose and analyze three latent space designs for COSKAD: the commonly-adopted Euclidean, and the new spherical-radial and hyperbolic volumes. All three variants outperform the state-of-the-art, including video-based techniques, on the ShangaiTechCampus, the Avenue, and on the most recent UBnormal dataset, for which we contribute novel skeleton annotations and the selection of human-related *** source code and dataset will be released upon acceptance. © 2023, The Authors. In order to achieve a highly accurate estimation of solar energy resource potential,a novel hybrid ensemble-learning approach,hybridizing Advanced Squirrel-Search Optimization Algorithm(ASSOA)and support vector regression,is utilized to estimate the hourly tilted solar irradiation for selected arid regions in ***-term measured meteorological data,including mean-air temperature,relative humidity,wind speed,alongside global horizontal irradiation and extra-terrestrial horizontal irradiance,were obtained for the two cities of Tamanrasset-and-Adrar for two *** computational algorithms were considered and analyzed for the suitability of *** two new algorithms,namely Average Ensemble and Ensemble using support vector regression were developed using the hybridization *** accuracy of the developed models was analyzed in terms of five statistical error metrics,as well as theWilcoxon rank-sum and ANOVA *** the previously selected algorithms,K Neighbors Regressor and support vector regression exhibited good ***,the newly proposed ensemble algorithms exhibited even better *** proposed model showed relative root mean square errors lower than 1.448%and correlation coefficients higher than *** was further verified by benchmarking the new ensemble against several popular swarm intelligence *** is concluded that the proposed algorithms are far superior to the commonly adopted ones.

Distributed Online Bandit Nonconvex Optimization with One-Point Residual Feedback via Dynamic Regret

This paper considers the distributed online bandit optimization problem with nonconvex loss functions over a time-varying digraph. This problem can be viewed as a repeated game between a group of online players and an adversary. At each round, each player selects a decision from the constraint set, and then the adversary assigns an arbitrary, possibly nonconvex, loss function to this player. Only the loss value at the current round, rather than the entire loss function or any other information (e.g. gradient), is privately revealed to the player. Players aim to minimize a sequence of global loss functions, which are the sum of local losses. We observe that traditional multi-point bandit algorithms are unsuitable for online optimization, where the data for the loss function are not all a priori, while the one-point bandit algorithms suffer from poor regret guarantees. To address these issues, we propose a novel one-point residual feedback distributed online algorithm. This algorithm estimates the gradient using residuals from two points, effectively reducing the regret bound while maintaining O(1) sampling complexity per iteration. We employ a rigorous metric, dynamic regret, to evaluate the algorithm's performance. By appropriately selecting the step size and smoothing parameters, we demonstrate that the expected dynamic regret of our algorithm is comparable to existing algorithms that use two-point feedback, provided the deviation in the objective function sequence and the path length of the minimization grows sublinearly. Finally, we validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm through numerical simulations. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Geometric Reachability for Attitude control Systems via Contraction Theory

In this paper, we present a geometric framework for the reachability analysis of attitude control systems. We model the attitude dynamics on the product manifold SO(3) × 3 and introduce a novel parametrized family of Riemannian metrics on this space. Using contraction theory on manifolds, we establish reliable upper bounds on the Riemannian distance between nearby trajectories of the attitude control systems. By combining these trajectory bounds with numerical simulations, we provide a simulation-based algorithm to over-approximate the reachable sets of attitude systems. We show that the search for optimal metrics for distance bounds can be efficiently performed using semidefinite programming. Additionally, we introduce a practical and effective representation of these over-approximations on manifolds, enabling their integration with existing Euclidean tools and software. We consider the synthesis problem of a multi-agent system under signal temporal logic (STL) specifications representing bounded-time tasks that need to be satisfied recurrently over an infinite horizon. Motivated by the limited approaches to handling recurring STL systematically, we tackle the infinite-horizon control problem with a receding horizon scheme equipped with additional STL constraints that introduce minimal complexity and a backward-reachability-based terminal condition that is straightforward to construct and ensures recursive feasibility. Subsequently, we decompose the global receding horizon optimization problem into agent-level programs the objectives of which are to minimize local cost functions subject to local and joint STL constraints. We propose a scheduling policy that allows individual agents to sequentially optimize their control actions while maintaining recursive feasibility. This results in a distributed strategy that can operate online as a model predictive controller. Last, we illustrate the effectiveness of our method via a multi-agent system example assigned a surveillance task.
