This paper proposes methods for the development of mathematical models and for the control of operation modes of technological objects in oil refinery in face of uncertainty based on fuzzy information. The mathematical formulation of the problem of decision-making on controlling modes, which are solved on the basis of mathematical modeling, is formalized and obtained. By using the example of the problem of decision-making on optimal operation modes of technological complex for the benzene production and based on the methods of fuzzy mathematics an algorithm of its solution is developed. The initial problem is formalized as a problem of decision-making in the fuzzy environment, since the investigated object is characterized by multicriteriality and frequently functions in a fuzzy environment. The mathematical formulation of the problem of object's mode selection in the fuzzy environment and the heuristic algorithm of its solution is obtained by modifying various optimality principles based on methods of the fuzzy sets theory.

This paper uses a convex optimization setting to design iterative learning control laws for discrete-time systems with a static nonlinearity. The nonlinearity is assumed to be sector bounded, where such nonlinearities often arise in applications. For systems with such nonlinearities the repetitive process setting is exploited to develop a linear matrix inequality based conditions for computing the feedback and feedforward (learning) controllers. These controllers guarantee acceptable dynamics along the trials and ensure monotonic convergence of the trial-to-trial error dynamics, respectively. A simulation example is given to illustrate the new design.

This paper presents a condition for global asymptotic synchronization of Lienard-type nonlinear oscillators in uniform LTI electrical networks with series R-L circuits modeling interconnections. By uniform electrical networks, we mean that the per-unit-length impedances are identical for the interconnecting lines. We derive conditions for global asymptotic synchronization for a particular feedback architecture where the derivative of the oscillator output current supplements the innate current feedback induced by simply interconnecting the oscillator to the network. Our proof leverages a coordinate transformation to a set of differential coordinates that emphasizes signal differences and the particular form of feedback permits the formulation of a quadratic Lyapunov function for this class of networks. This approach is particularly interesting since synchronization conditions are difficult to obtain by means of quadratic Lyapunov functions when only current feedback is used and for networks composed of series R-L circuits. Our synchronization condition depends on the algebraic connectivity of the underlying network, and reiterates the conventional wisdom from Lyapunov- and passivity-based arguments that strong coupling is required to ensure synchronization.

The difference of protein sequence or protein structure can be used for the construction of molecular evolutionary tree or phytogenetic tree with certain hierarchy and topology. The divergent points in the tree suggest that new genes appeared or common ancestors varied. The lengths of the branch in the tree show the evolution distances between proteins when divergences happened. The analysis of protein evolution can propose some methods for molecular evolution of various species and can confirm the accurate status in the evolution history. Moreover, the molecular evolution tree of proteins is a strong evidence for species classification. In the paper, the trees are constructed by the regular express of protein sequences and the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. The proposed method in the paper can be used conveniently and can give reliable results, which benefit the biology computing and sequence analysis. Copyright © 2016 American Scientific Publishers. Due to the distinguished properties offered by different structural phases of monolayer MoS2, phase engineering design are urgently required for achieving switchable structural phase. Strain engineering is widely accepted as a clean and flexible method, however, can not be achieved in engineering monolayer MoS2 phase transition because the critical biaxial strain required (~15%) is much larger than measured elastic limit (~11%). In this study, employing density functional theoretical calculations, it has been found out that with the forming of heterostructure between MoS2 with buckled 2D materials such as silicence, germanene and stanene, only a small strain can trigger the phase transition. As being suggested by the constructed phase stability diagram, biaxial deformation as low as 3% in MoS2/silicene and MoS2/stanene sandwich structure, would be sufficient to induce the structural phase transition in MoS2 lattice. This strain falls well within experimental elastic limit, thus would be feasible to realize in experiment. The origin of such behavior can be understood as strain induced interlayer covalent bond formation, which finally make MoS2 lattice more sensitive to external strain. This theoretical work provides one realistic route for achieving flexible phase stabilities in experimental design. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Computationally expensive problems pose a serious challenge to the successful application of evolutionary algorithms to complex engineering optimization. To address this challenge, surrogate models, also known as metamodels, are commonly used in lieu of the expensive fitness function for the computational cost of optimization. However, it is nontrivial to choose an appropriate metamodel for properly replacing the expensive fitness function. In this paper, an adaptive model selection strategy based on fitness landscape analysis is proposed for a surrogate-assisted particle swarm optimization algorithm. The structure of the sampling space is learned, based on which the more suited surrogate model, either a polynomial regression model or a radial basis function network, will be chosen to estimate the fitness value. Simulation results on seven widely used benchmark functions demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.

This paper proposes an improvement over Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression algorithm by employing a new method that uses exponential decay (ED) as a tool to manage and remove infrequently used entries in the LZW dictionary. The presented results demonstrate that ED may be an efficient tool to manage and refresh the LZW dictionary. The achieved compression ratio is higher than in the traditional methods like Dictionary Reset DR and Least Recently used LRU. The experimental results demonstrate that the dictionary refresh by the ED may provide higher compression ratio, compared with the original LZW algorithm. In order to investigate the benefits of ED method, it is compared with some other way of LRU-based enhancements. In particular, we consider a LRU-like LZW scheme with Huffman coding of difference from last used word.

Identification of nonlinear rational systems defined as the ratio of two nonlinear functions of past inputs and outputs is considered in this paper. Although this problem has a long history, there is still lack of a globally consistent identification algorithm for such identification problem. This paper develops a globally consistent algorithm by the following steps: model transformation, bias analysis, noise variance estimation, and compensation. First, the paper studies the prediction error type estimator(nonlinear least square estimators) and the corresponding solving algorithm(Gauss-Newton algorithms). It is shown that the Gauss-Newton algorithm is locally convergent but actually asymptotically efficient by calculating the Crame′r-Rao lower bound under Gaussian observation noises. This motivates that a global and asymptotically efficient estimator can be constructed by combining the proposed globally consistent estimator with the Gauss-Newton algorithm. So, a two-step method is proposed,which consists of first executing the globally consistent algorithm and then applying the Gauss-Newton algorithm with the consistent estimate serving as the initial value. A simulation example is provided to verify the good performance of the proposed two-step method.

Testing designing an electrical device compliant with the electromagnetic compatibility directive

The goal of presented work was to build an electronic device in order to test the effectiveness of different EMC-improving solutions. Three EMC tests were done in order to check the created device compliance with the electromagnetic compatibility directive. Each of them was conducted for both industrial and non-industrial parameters (voltage and field strength), according to IEC PN-EN 61000 standards. Three tests were done: conductive immunity test in EM clamp, radiated immunity test in GTEM chamber, radiated emission test in GTEM chamber. Firstly, the device's conductive immunity was examined. The set of possible solutions was created by examining existing designs, papers, books and producers' recommendations. In result, different component configurations were chosen to determine the most EMC-effective one. Next, electromagnetic compatibility of proposed device configurations was tested in the GTEM chamber (radiated immunity and radiated emission). Tests results are presented on charts and analysed in order to verify if designed device face requirements of the electromagnetic compatibility directive. It was verify which of proposed electromagnetic compatibility improving solutions can solve problems with electromagnetic compatibility.

The series connection of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) allows the operation at voltage levels higher than the rated voltage of one IGBT. However, the technology has not been widely applied due to transient voltage unbalance. Asynchronous gate drive signals, which cause series-connected IGBTs not to turn-on and turn-off at the same time, result in serious unbalanced voltage sharing. This paper presents an active voltage balancing control for multi series connected HV-IGBTs including the active voltage balancing control (AVBC) circuit integrated in the gate driver and the control for multi series connected IGBTs. The effectiveness of the control has been experimentally validated in a 10 kV dc-link voltage converter using four 4.5 kV HV-IGBTs in series connection.
