We consider a real-time system of multiple tasks, each task having a plant to control. The overall quadratic control cost is to be optimized. We exploit the periodicity of the task response time, which corresponds to a periodic delay pattern in the feedback control loop. Perturbed periods are used as a tool to find a finite hyper period. We present an analytical procedure to design a periodic linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) controller for tasks with fixed execution times as well as a numerical solution to the periodic -- stochastic LQG problem for tasks with variable execution times. The controllers are evaluated using simulations in real-time scheduling and control co-design examples.

This paper is concerned with the state estimation problem for a class of nonlinear discrete-time complex networks subject to false data injection attacks. By utilizing Bernoulli random binary distributed white sequences, the false data injection attack model is established to describe the characteristics of false data injection attacks applying to the complex networks under consideration. An estimator is designed to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the estimation error in mean square. By employing stochastic analysis approach, suf cient conditions are derived for the existence of the desired estimators whose gains are parameterized by minimizing an upper bound of the output variance of the estimation errors. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the results.

The economic dispatch problem (EDP) is of vital importance in the operation and control of power systems. In this paper, we consider the extended EDP that takes into account transmission losses and propose a distributed algorithm based on the average consensus algorithm and the bisection method. We assume that the total transmission losses can be represented by the B matrix loss formula, and the communication network between generators (nodes) is a connected undirected graph. A leader node is used to broadcast the total demand information by communicating with merely a small part of the nodes. Our algorithm is distributed in the sense that the nodes conduct local computations and communicate with their neighbors. Simulation results are given to show the performance of our algorithm.

After short review and defining the motivation and recognizing the bottlenecks, the case study is presented. It is based on the laboratory pneumatic setup representing the nonlinear continuous process of the higher relative degree. Current state-of-the-art correct-by-design controllers are designed for full-state measurable systems. This work extends the applicability of correct-by-design controllers to partially observable linear, time-invariant (LTI) models. Towards the certification of the synthesised controllers, approximate simulation relations are leveraged to attain a quantification for the accuracy of introduced approximations. Additionally, the robustness of the approach allows the extension to models with the presence of probabilistic disturbances on state transitions and on output measurements. This paper proposes a novel discrete time identification method for flexible wing aircraft models from simulated data. The special properties of the dynamics arise from the fact that all the poles are located very close to the unit circle and their location changes with the flight velocity. Using identification criteria based on Euclidean metrics suffers from the problem of obtaining instability in the search and also on the possible high number of poles. The paper offers an alternative approach and associated identification method to obtain the poles directly using Laguerre-representation of the impulse responses and hyperbolic metrics for identification criteria. The method utilises the hyperbolic geometrical properties of the descriptions of discrete-time signals and systems on the unit disc, and is strictly connected to the representations in rational orthogonal bases. Beyond the conceptual clarity, examples also confirm that it forms an adequate basis for estimating poles of systems as a significant part of an identification process.

This paper studies the evaluation of the video streaming over Mobile Peer-to-Peer (MP2P) networks using Scalable Video Coding. The proposed research framework exploits the MP2P diversity characteristics where each node acts as a Mobile Peer for every neighboring node in a relay-based communicating path. Mobile Peers use a common look-up table to request video streaming resources in order to estimate the video packets transfer duration in the end-to-end path. The collaborative streaming is achieved through the data packets replication policy, which uses a bounded upper time limitation for the video packets of each layer (Use of Scalable Video). Each node/device utilizes a specified amount of capacity for both channel and storage purposes. Different scenarios have been introduced in this paper towards evaluating the video streaming policy in the MP2P system, using a real-time probabilistic Fractional Brownian Motion (FBM) and a Random Waypoint (RWP) Mobility model. In both models, nodes move according to certain probabilities, location and time. Intermittent connectivity occurs while nodes claim video streams, whereas promiscuous caching policy enables -where possible-recoverability of lost packets offering priority to packets from the base layer. The simulation results show that FBM provides better objective and subjective quality results for two video sequences resolution, in the MP2P network configuration.

The purpose of this paper is to study stabilization problem of linear time-invariant systems subject to stochastic multiplicative uncertainties and time delays. We consider a structured multiplicative perturbation which consists of static, zero-mean stochastic processes and we assess the stability of system based on mean-square criteria. The mean-square stabilization problem for multi-input multi-output systems generally requires solving an optimization problem involving the spectral radius of a certain closed loop transfer function matrix. This problem in general is non-convex and by and large unresolved, only approximate solutions are available based on numerical algorithms resembling to the D-K iteration for μ-synthesis. Our main contributions include the fundamental conditions, both necessary and sufficient, which insure that the multi-input multi-output minimum phase systems can be stabilized by output feedback in the mean-square sense. We provide a complete, computationally efficient solution in the form of a generalized eigenvalue problem readily solvable by means of linear matrix inequality optimization. For conceptual insights, limiting cases are analyzed in depth to characterize and quantify explicitly how the directions of unstable poles may affect the mean-square stabilizability of multi-input multi-output systems.
