We propose a generalization of the recently developed system identification method called Sign-Perturbed Sums (SPS). The proposed construction is based on the instrumental variables estimate and, unlike the original SPS, it can construct non-asymptotic confidence regions for linear regression models where the regressors contain past values of the output. Hence, it is applicable to ARX systems, as well as systems with feedback. We show that this approach provides regions with exact confidence under weak assumptions, i.e., the true parameter is included in the regions with a (user-chosen) exact probability for any finite sample. The paper also proves the strong consistency of the method and proposes a computationally efficient generalization of the previously proposed ellipsoidal outer-approximation. Finally, the new method is demonstrated through numerical experiments, using both real-world and simulated data.

We consider the event-triggered state estimation of a finite-state hidden Markov model with a general stochastic event-triggering condition. Utilizing the change of probability measure approach and the event-triggered measurement information available to the estimator, analytical expressions for the conditional probability distributions of the states are obtained, based on which the minimum mean square error event-based state estimates are further calculated. We show that the results also cover the case of packet dropout, under a special parameterization of the event-triggering conditions. With the results on state estimation, a closed-form expression of the average sensor-to-estimator communication rate is also presented. The effectiveness of the proposed results is illustrated by a numerical example and comparative simulations.

The improvement of brain imaging technique brings about an opportunity for developing and investigating brain-computer interface (BCI) which is a way to interact with computer and environment. The measured brain activities usually constitute the signals of interest and noises. Applying the portable device and removing noise are the benefits to real-world BCI. In this study, one portable electroencephalogram (EEG) system non-invasively acquired brain dynamics through wireless transmission while six subjects participated in the rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) paradigm. The event-related potential (ERP) was traditionally estimated by ensemble averaging (EA) to increase the signal-to-noise ratio. One adaptive filter of data-reusing radial basis function network (DR-RBFN) was also utilized as the estimator. The results showed that this portable EEG system stably acquired brain activities. Furthermore, the task-related potentials could be clearly explored from the limited samples of EEG data through DR-RBFN. According to the artifact-free data from the portable device, this study demonstrated the potential to move the BCI from laboratory research to real-life application in the near future.

The paper presents the synthesis and implementation algorithms of reconfigurable logic controller (RLC) implemented in a FPGA. In opposite to software centric PLCs, the RLC utilize massively parallel hardware execution of control algorithms. The specific hardware implementation significantly reduces the throughput time. The input program is described by the SFC given according to IEC61131-3 standard. An original intermediate representation with use of data flow graph has been developed for program representation and synthesis purposes. The algorithm of creating graph representation maintains sequential dependencies of processing and reveals parallel tasks. Developed method of scheduling and mapping is dedicated for implementation in LUT based FPGA devices. There are considered direct mapping based on greedy approach and optimized methods that are FPGA architecture aware. The paper is concluded with exemplary implementation comparison.
