Federated Learning With Meta-Layers Training for Privacy-Preserving in Vehicular Consumer Electronics

Vehicular consumer electronics, such as autonomous vehicles (AVs), need collecting large amounts of private user information, which face the risk of privacy leakage. To protect the privacy of consumers, researchers have proposed to apply federated learning (FL) to privacy-preserving vehicular consumer electronics, that is, leveraging FL for collaborative training of a decision model without exchanging the sensitive information generated by AVs. However, FL generally needs to exchange the gradients of client models periodically with the central server, which can be attacked by adversaries to infer user information. Thereby, it may still face the risk of privacy leakage. To solve that challenge, we put forward a novel FL framework, called FL with Meta-Layers Training (FL-MLT). Instead of exchanging the gradients of the client models, it exchanges, meta-layers with the central servers. Since meta-layers are only a slice of the client models, exchanging them helps protect privacy. On the other hand, they contain meta-knowledge to help the FL training process. In the experiments, we conduct extensive visual classification simulation to evaluate FL-MLT, and the experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of FL-MLT. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper. This paper discusses challenges, experiences and lessons learned so far while transforming a masonry build system based mostly on manual labour into a robot automated build system. Our motivation for selection of this masonry process is to try out how robot automation could impact the architects in their design work by providing a tool to directly manipulate wall expression down to individual brick level. Such manipulation is often much too costly for manual labour today. Moreover, masonry is a challenging application to automate. Understanding the manual processes involved and transforming them into automation equivalents faces several challenges;among them handling and distribution of the different materials involved, selection of tooling, sensing for handling of variation and digital tooling for the programming of the process. A novel parallel-kinematic manipulator (PKM) with computerized numerical control (CNC) is used as target for experiments, because the performance properties in stiffness, workspace and accuracy will allow us to extend work into further construction processes involving heavy and dirty manual labour. © 2022 International Association on Automation and Robotics in Construction.

We propose a new multirotor aerial vehicle class of designs composed of a multi-body structure in which a main body is connected by passive joints to links equipped with propellers. We have investigated some instances of such class, some of which are shown to achieve omnidirectionality while having a minimum number of inputs equal to the main body Degrees of Freedom DoF’s, only uni-directional positive thrust propellers, and no internal forces generated at steady state. After dynamics are derived following the Euler-Lagrange approach, an I/O dynamic feedback linearization strategy is then used to show the controllability of any desired pose with stable zero dynamics. We finally verify the developed controller with closed-loop simulations.

Intelligent fault diagnosis (IFD) plays an important role to increase the safety and reliability of rotating machinery. In recent years, there is a large number of deep-learning-based algorithms applied to IFD. Many studies have shown that the one-dimension convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) performs well in fault diagnosis on original vibration signals. However, the original vibration signals are very complicated and difficult to analyze directly. Some critical information is often hidden in different frequency subbands, such as some fault state is only related to specific subbands. In order to enhance the learning progression well organized for the 1D-CNN model, the proposed approach is based on wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) and 1D-CNN. First, decompose the original vibration signal into different frequency subbands with WPD to make the signals more concise. Next, to be compatible with the 1D-CNN model, we proposed a novel 1D-CNN with multi-resolution (CNN-MR) and the experiment result according to Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Bearing Data Center. Through CNN-MR, it achieves high accuracy for fault diagnosis. © 2021 IEEE.

Spiking neural P systems are a class of distributed parallel computing models inspired from the way neurons communicate with each other by means of electrical impulses (called “spikes”). In this paper, we continue the research of normal forms for spiking neural P systems. Specifically, we prove that the degree of spiking neural P systems without delay can be decreased to two without losing the computational completeness (both in the generating and accepting modes).

In this paper, we propose a model for the thrust coefficient of propellers that can take into account cross-influence between adjacent propellers. The aerodynamic interaction between propellers in multirotor aerial vehicles reduces the thrust they can produce. The influence between propellers depends on their relative positioning and orientation, which are taken into account by the proposed model. It is validated on measurements collected by a force sensor mounted on a propeller for different configurations of the adjacent propellers in a support structure. In this work, we focus on configurations with small relative orientations. Results show that the proposed model outperforms the traditional constant model in terms of thrust prediction on the data we collected, and it performs better than other models with fewer parameters, being the only one with less than 10% maximum percentage error.
