Towards reaping the benefits provided by conversational systems, conversational systems in form of chatbots have been deployed to provide different kinds of services in different countries of the world. However, government-based services to the citizens are limited. Consequently, there is a need to know the level of the adoption of this technology in Nigeria so as for the stakeholders to be guided as per the line of action to be taken in reaping the benefit of the technology being usable to bridge the digital divide prevalent in the country. This work therefore investigated the level of adoption of conversational systems - both text-based and voice-based by the various governments in Nigeria. In carrying out the investigations, the websites of the various state governments were visited and searched, for text-based and voice-based conversational systems as well as the availability of any chatting facilities. The results obtained show that even though the vast majority of the state governments have web presence, conversational systems are generally not available. Only three states have chatting facilities;two are text-based and one has a chatting interface that is really not a conversational system. None has voice-based conversational system and two states from the North Central zone have no web presence at all. Consequently, governments need to adopt the usage of conversational systems in order to make services more available in different modes for the benefits of the mases and to reach the unreached. The North central states specifically also need to fully have web presence like the others in the remaining geo-political zones. © 2023 ACM.

More and more serious global warming boosters the research on environmental protection from both the industries and academia. The collection of environmental data is a basic block for the environmental protection. Due to the mobility and the release of stringent power constraints, vehicular sensor networks (VSN) provides an efficient way to collect environmental data. However, many existing work on the application of VSN in the environmental protection focuses on using the collected data to generate the environmental report. The increasing popularity of social networks motivates our interests in providing more innovative applications by integrating the VSN with social networks. In this paper, we intro-duce the structure of the integrated system, discuss the applications and the challenging issues.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is fast playing important roles as it is useful in several ways to curate data on movement patterns, wildlife observations, monitor ecological population and as well, understand behaviours. Here, in this study, current trends of how artificial intelligence are used to understand several activities of the Eidolon helvum fruit bats. The study reviewed 122 publications that is related to bats and its environment, of which just 20 (16%) used machine learning to assess the several activities of bats ranging from specie classification to sound signal processing. We also identified the most popular machine-learning techniques, as well as probable explanations for why they are rarely used in ecology and workable remedies. Furthermore, the study identified other AI-based technology like Edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) as new opportunities in ecological *** conclusion, the study anticipates that the joint use cutting edge technologies for ecological research and conservation and the need for innovative methods and AI-driven solutions to track wildlife demographics. © 2023, The Authors. With biodiversity loss escalating globally, a step change is needed in our capacity to accurately monitor species populations across ecosystems. Robotic and autonomous systems (RAS) offer technological solutions that may substantially advance terrestrial biodiversity monitoring, but this potential is yet to be considered systematically. We used a modified Delphi technique to synthesize knowledge from 98 biodiversity experts and 31 RAS experts, who identified the major methodological barriers that currently hinder monitoring, and explored the opportunities and challenges that RAS offer in overcoming these barriers. Biodiversity experts identified four barrier categories: site access, species and individual identification, data handling and storage, and power and network availability. Robotics experts highlighted technologies that could overcome these barriers and identified the developments needed to facilitate RAS-based autonomous biodiversity monitoring. Some existing RAS could be optimized relatively easily to survey species but would require development to be suitable for monitoring of more ‘difficult’ taxa and robust enough to work under uncontrolled conditions within ecosystems. Other nascent technologies (for instance, new sensors and biodegradable robots) need accelerated research. Overall, it was felt that RAS could lead to major progress in monitoring of terrestrial biodiversity by supplementing rather than supplanting existing methods. Transdisciplinarity needs to be fostered between biodiversity and RAS experts so that future ideas and technologies can be codeveloped effectively.

With advancements in the science of detection and attribution studies, the influence of climate change over many events has now been quantified. Because of the rapidly increasing temperatures, vulnerable populations (adults older than 65 years, and children younger than one year of age) were exposed to 3·7 billion more heatwave days in 2021 than annually in 1986–2005 (indicator 1.1.2), and heat-related deaths increased by 68% between 2000–04 and 2017–21 (indicator 1.1.5), a death toll that was significantly exacerbated by the confluence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the local cooling and overall health benefits of urban greenspaces, only 277 (27%) of 1038 global urban centres were at least moderately green in 2021 (indicator 2.2.3), and the number of households with air conditioning increased by 66% from 2000 to 2020, a maladaptive response that worsens the energy crisis and further increases urban heat, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.
