The concept of Digital Twin has been widely used by researchers to represent physical entities in computer-generated reality in the metaverse. In this research, a novel concept of “Mobile Twin” is coined. Mobile Twin serves as a replica of a mobile device in the virtual environment enabling communication. The purpose of introducing Mobile Twin in the metaverse is to bring mobility and benefits similar to tangible mobile devices while eliminating the need for individual energy sources, storage limitations, resource usage, and efficiency. The true benefits of a mobile twin can be achieved with an architecture where computing nodes are decentralized, data processing is near the network's edge with faster response times and reduced latency. For this purpose, the mobile twin-based applications of metaverse are built over edge computing-based network architecture. This idea introduced the aspect of “Revolutionary Ultra-low latency (RULL)” in the metaverse.

Ontology is an organization of knowledge that can represent knowledge in a structured manner. An ontology-based Knowledge Management System is a system that combines elements of knowledge management with the application of ontology as a knowledge base. Meanwhile, knowledge is dynamic and continues to develop all the time, giving rise to new knowledge. Therefore, the ontology must be updated regularly through ontology enrichment to meet adequate knowledge requirements. Ontology enrichment is carried out to ensure that the ontology remains relevant and responsive to developments in its knowledge domain. However, there are no standard stages in implementing enrichment in ontology-based Knowledge Management systems. Therefore, this research conducted a literature review to determine when and how to apply enrichment in ontology development. Data was obtained from related journals in 2018 - 2023. The method used in this research is the Systematic Literature Review method to systematically identify, review, evaluate, and interpret all available research in the area of interest with specific relevant research questions. The research results show that the ontology enrichment procedure generally includes preprocessing stages, relation extraction, and enrichment processes. Ontology enrichment is generally applied during the development of a new ontology as part of the ontology development cycle and on existing ontologies, which are a separate stage from the initial ontology development cycle. Based on these findings, the researcher provides recommendations for researchers who want to use or develop new ontology enrichment methods.

For the first time, we examine the performance of gate-all-around nanosheet field effect transistor (GAA NS FET) with both monolayer (ML) and bilayer (BL) molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ). As compared to the control sample of silicon (Si), MoS 2 devices exhibit reduced short-channel effects (SCE) owing to its larger band gap and larger effective mass. The GAA NS FET with BL MoS 2 possesses moderate energy bandgap and large channel thickness which exhibits superior on state current and voltage gain.

We investigate the use of animal videos (observations) to improve Reinforcement Learning (RL) efficiency and performance in navigation tasks with sparse rewards. Motivated by theoretical considerations, we make use of weighted policy optimization for off-policy RL and describe the main challenges when learning from animal videos. We propose solutions and test our ideas on a 2D navigation task. We show how the use of animal videos improves performance over RL algorithms that do not leverage such observations.

Cloud Platforms are heterogeneous, and users may face interoperability issues migrating applications or exchanging data among distinct clouds due, for instance, to the lack of standards solutions. Several solutions have been proposed to overcome lock-in situations, and middleware platforms are one of them. A semantic interoperability solution named middleware for Data as a Service (DaaS)/Database as a Service (DBaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS)—MIDAS has been developed to overcome this lock-in issue. It is an intermediate communication layer to retrieve data from DaaS or DBaaS through a Structured Query Language (SQL) or a Not Only SQL (NoSQL) created at the SaaS level. MIDAS is a platform for software execution, but software development needs support for its entire life cycle. Therefore, we propose the Model drIven Approach for MIDAS (MIAMI), which enables the specification of platform-independent middleware models and their use to generate code on different cloud platforms. MIAMI comprises a Domain-Specific Modeling Language (DSML) that enables middleware models and a transformation specification, which defines how these models can be converted to code. MIAMI offers a strategy for MIDAS specification and code generation phases to help middleware developers’ activities. MIAMI was applied to code generation specifications in Cloud Foundry, Amazon Web Services, OpenShift, and Heroku providers to evaluate our approach. This specification shows MIAMI’s feasibility and points out that MDD is a promising approach to improving cloud interoperability solutions. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Literacy, or the ability to read and write, is a crucial indicator of success in life and greater society. It is estimated that 85% of people in juvenile delinquent systems cannot adequately read or write, that more than half of those with substance abuse issues have complications in reading or writing and that two-thirds of those who do not complete high school lack proper literacy skills [1]. Furthermore, young children who do not possess reading skills matching grade level by the fourth grade are approximately 80% likely to not catch up at all [2]. Many may believe that in a developed country such as the United States, literacy fails to be an issue;however, this is a dangerous misunderstanding. Globally an estimated 1.19 trillion dollars are lost every year due to issues in literacy;in the USA, the loss is an estimated 300 billion [3]. To put it in more shocking terms, one in five American adults still fail to comprehend basic sentences [4].Makingmatters worse, the only tools available now to correct a lack of reading and writing ability are found in expensive tutoring or other programs that oftentimes fail to be able to reach the required audience. In this paper, our team puts forward a new way of teaching English spelling and word recognitions to grade school students in the United States: Wordification. Wordification is a web application designed to teach English literacy using principles of linguistics applied to the orthographic and phonological properties of words in a manner not fully utilized previously in any computer-based teaching application. © 2023, CC BY.

The Smart Power Grid (SPG) is pivotal in orchestrating and managing demand response in contemporary smart cities, leveraging the prowess of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Within the immersive SPG environment, the ubiquitous deployment of smart meters stands as a testament to their paramount importance in the realm of vigilant monitoring and oversight. These smart meters are installed on high-tension electricity lines and transmit information about electricity outages and other issues to the utility center. To access services from utility centers, smart meters need to communicate securely over a public channel, even though the network itself is insecure. However, potential attacks from adversaries ( Ad) can exploit this communication. Therefore, protecting this communication is of utmost importance. Several privacy-preserving authentication protocols designed for SPG have been introduced in the literature. Nevertheless, a significant number of these protocols exhibit vulnerabilities to diverse security attacks. This article introduces a lightweight and anonymous authentication protocol specifically designed to address these concerns in the SPG environment. Our protocol ensures both security and efficiency, surpassing other comparable protocols in terms of its lightweight nature. By employing both formal and informal analysis, we showcase the robustness of our protocol against significant attacks while remaining lightweight. The proposed protocol provides added security features and incurs 23.8879% lower computation cost than related protocols. Consequently, our protocol is highly suitable for implementation in the SPG system. © 2020 IEEE.

Adaptive filtering plays an essential role in digital signal processing (DSP), being present in many application fields such as noise reduction, telecommunication, and audio signal processing. Notably, the least mean square (LMS) and its normalized version (NLMS) are the most used algorithms due to their simplicity and robustness, which turn them attractive to hardware solutions. This work proposes architectural solutions for LMS and NLMS algorithms targeting an energy-efficient VLSI design. We explore fully sequential, fully parallel, and semi-parallel architectures reusing the hardware as much as possible for both algorithms. It allows for investigating the number of steps necessary for each architecture, demonstrating the energy per operation, circuit area, and throughput savings. The synthesis results highlight the semi-parallel architectures LMS-2 steps and NLMS-3 steps have the best trade-off energy-speed. In addition, we proved the architecture’s energy efficiency in a harmonic canceling case study, achieving more than 60% in energy savings using both filters.

Thanks to the high energy efficiency achieved by approximate circuits, the exploration of approximate solutions for a wide of applications is the focus of academic and industrial research. However, defining the most appropriate approximation considering the power consumption and accuracy trade-off can be exhaustive. This paper proposes a novel approach to estimate the synthesis results for approximate adders (AxA) with different bit-width and approximation levels based on a database and simple mathematical operations to reduce the synthesis process complexity during an approximate circuit development. We implement the proposed approach to estimate the synthesis results for the Copy, Error-Tolerant Adder I (ETA-I), Lower-part-or (LOA), and Truncation (Trunc) AxAs. Comparing our estimation with real synthesis results obtained by an industrial synthesis tool, we prove the approach’s efficiency by presenting an average error on the estimated parameters (area, power and delay) less than 10% in the worst case. In addition, our approach reduces by more than 25 times the number of synthesis runs when estimating the synthesis results for all circuits in the bit width range of 2 to 64 with all possible approximation levels.

Game system models introduce abstractions over games in order to support their analysis, generation, and design. While excellent, models to date leave tacit what they abstract over, why they are ontologically adequate, and how they would be realized in the engine underlying the game. In this paper we model these abstraction gaps via the first-order modal µcalculus. We use it to reify the link between engines to our game interaction model, a player-computer interaction framework grounded in the Game Ontology Project. Through formal derivation and justification, we contend our work is a useful code studies perspective that affords better understanding the semantics underlying game system models in general.
