Learning verbs is challenging because it is difficult to infer the precise meaning of a verb when there are a multitude of relations that one can derive from a single event. To study this verb learning challenge, we used children’s egocentric view collected from naturalistic toy-play interaction as learning materials and investigated how visual and linguistic information provided in individual naming moments as well as cross-situational information provided from multiple learning moments can help learners resolve this mapping problem using the Human Simulation Paradigm. Our results show that learners benefit from seeing children’s egocentric views compared to third-person observations. In addition, linguistic information can help learners identify the correct verb meaning by eliminating possible meanings that do not belong to the linguistic category. Learners are also able to integrate visual and linguistic information both within and across learning situations to reduce the ambiguity in the space of possible verb meanings. © Cognitive Science Society: Comparative Cognition: Animal Minds, CogSci *** rights reserved.

Multi-channel speech separation has been successfully applied in a complex real-world environment such as the far-field condition. The common solution to deal with the far-field condition is using a multi-channel signal captured by a structured microphone array and leveraging the inner difference between channels to enhance the speech separation performance. The spatial feature has been widely used in recent speech separation research. This feature appears to be insufficient when the location information becomes ambiguous. This is known as the spatial ambiguity problem. In order to deal with the spatial ambiguity problem, this study proposes an attention mechanism for the Temporal-Spatial Neural Filter (TSNF), in which the channel attention on merged features and the feature map of 1D convolution block in the temporal convolution network is proposed. The proposed method is evaluated on the multi-channel reverberant dataset which is built based on the WSJ0-2mix dataset. The dataset is simulated in the real-environment room by using the Room Impulse Response generator. In the experimental results, the proposed methods produced the SI -SNR improvement of about 1.2dB in close speakers' case, while a small decrease of 0.1dB in other cases. © 2021 APSIPA.

We for the first time study characteristic fluctuation of gate-all-around silicon nanosheet MOSFETs induced by random dopants fluctuation (RDF), interface trap fluctuation (ITF), and work function fluctuation (WKF), and their combinations. The explored devices affected by the WKF and its combination result in sizeable variability. Because of enigmatical interactions among the aforementioned random factors, overestimated variabilities occur if we only consider one random source each time, compared with the statistical 3D device simulation for full RDF, ITF and WKF at the same time. Notably, 10.78% and 103% overestimations are found for the threshold voltage and off-state current fluctuations. © 2022 IEEE.

Membrane technology holds significant potential for water treatment and air dehumidification. However, current membranes are constrained by limitations in water flux and pollutant rejection. This study introduces a novel approach to enhance the performance of microfiltration membranes by incorporating Ti3C2Tx MXene nanomaterials into polyethersulfone to fabricate a series of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). Comprehensive characterization through SEM, TEM, XRD, and AFM reveals enhanced morphology, hydrophilicity and mechanical robustness. These improvements directly contribute to performance metrics that surpass the control PES membrane reach pure water of 2280 LMH/bar and an oil rejection of 98%. The fortified mechanical properties further enable the membranes to operate effectively under elevated pressures, reducing both flux degradation and operational failures. Significantly, the study marks the first application of MXene-based membranes in air dehumidification, with the MMM membranes exhibiting a water vapor permeance (WVP) of 18,100 GPU, compared to 15,900 GPU for the control PES membranes. These advancements affirm PES-MXene MMMs as scalable, high-performance solutions with new avenues for application in water treatment and air dehumidification. © 2023, The Authors. Relying only on behaviors that emerge from simple responsive controllers; swarms of robots have been shown capable of autonomously aggregate themselves or objects into clusters without any form of communication. We push these controllers to the limit, requiring robots to sort themselves or objects into different clusters. Based on a responsive controller that maps the current reading of a line-of-sight sensor to a pair of speeds for the robots' differential wheels, we demonstrate how multiple tasks instances can be accomplished by a robotic swarm. Using the dividing rectangles approach and physics simulation, a training step optimizes the parameters of the controller guided by a fitness function. We conducted a series of systematic trials in physics-based simulation and evaluate the performance in terms of dispersion and the ratio of clustered robots/objects. Across 20 trials where 30 robots cluster themselves into 3 groups, an average of 99.83% of them were correctly clustered into their group after 300 s. Across 50 trials where 15 robots cluster 30 objects into 3 groups, an average of 61.20%, 82.87%, and 97.73% of objects were correctly clustered into their group after 600 s, 900 s, and 1800 s, respectively. The object cluster behavior scales well while the aggregation does not, the latter due to the requirement of control tuning based on the number of robots.

Garden of Eden (GOE) states in cellular automata are grid configurations which have no precursors, that is, they can only occur as initial conditions. Finding individual configurations that minimize or maximize some criterion of interest (e.g., grid size, density, etc.) has been a popular sport in recreational mathematics, but systematic studies of the set of GOEs for a cellular automaton have been rare. This paper presents the current results of an ongoing computational study of GOE configurations in Conway’s Game of Life (GoL) cellular automaton. Specifically, we describe the current status of a map of the layout of GOEs and nonGOEs in density/size space, characterize how the density-dependent structure of the number of precursors varies with increasing grid size as we approach the point where GOEs begin to occur, provide a catalog of all known GOE configurations up to a grid size of 11 × 11, and initiate a study of the structure of the network of constraints that characterize GOE vs. nonGOE configurations. © 2022, CC BY.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Classifying Ore Deposits Based on La-Icp-Ms Geochemistry of Natural Gold

Systematic sampling of gold grains and their characterization in abundance and morphology can be used as a vectoring tool for mineral deposits. However, the processes that lead to the formation of an ore deposit are multiscale and nonlinear. As a result, the elemental compositions recorded in gold grains during the mineralization process seem mostly irregular and unpredictable. Here, we took advantage of the capabilities of neural networks to approximate, a natural nonlinear function that better explains the chemical variability observed in gold allowing us to make predictions. this was achieved by using published data of trace elements in gold of four types of gold deposits (i.e., Orogenic, VMS, porphyry and epithermal) from 47 different localities, obtained by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA- ICP-MS). The model was optimized by training five different architectures on the most influential elements, determined by principal component analysis (PCA). As a result, it was found that two hidden layers with 10 neurons each, is the best architecture for using trace elements as predictors of the type of deposit that formed a natural gold grain. In order to encourage the use of the findings made in this paper, we introduce OreGenes, an app developed in Matlab2023b based on the best-obtained model. It allows any user who possesses compatible data, the ability to import and process it to obtain a prediction with an average accuracy level of 88.9% confidence to determine the mineral deposit type that an unknown gold grain came from which grants the user the ability to have a powerful tool for exploration or research. © 2024, The Authors. Purpose: The objectives of this study were to create a device with technological development of the self-inflating bag (SIB) equipment to measure the variables tidal volume, peak inspiratory pressure, and inspiratory flow and to evaluate the knowledge of undergraduate students in handling the SIB. To reduce the risks of mortality, length of hospital stay, and infections, SIB is a resource used to ventilate the patient through the inflation of the device, but it is not capable of measuring the ventilatory parameters. Excess ventilation and incorrect handling of the bag can cause lung injury in newborns. Therefore, measuring these parameters can prevent lung injury resulting from inadequate ventilation. Method: This is a cross-sectional and experimental study, with the development of a device SIB that allows the evaluation of variables of neonatal respiratory mechanics that were tested with an artificial lung. It was approved by the Research Ethics Committee and the research was developed in three stages: the first represents the search for scientific articles for the consensus of neonatal ventilatory variables for the construction of the SIB parameters;the second stage depicts the technological development of a device capable of monitoring such variables through the SIB. In the third stage, the content validation of the device with the handling of the SIB was carried out by students of medicine and physiotherapy courses of Brazil. Results: In this work, a device that analyzes the values of the main ventilatory parameters in neonatology was developed and to generate a safety range for the use of the device, curves with a tolerance of 10% up and down were created. All electronic components were coupled to the equipment, with a display that transmits the parameter values. The web page can be used on a cell phone, tablet, computer, or SmartTv, as long as it is connected to the "RespiratorIoT_AP" network.
