The purpose of this research aims to show a thesis motivation strategy for systems engineering and electronic engineering undergraduates that allow them to obtain their bachelor's degree and professional title according to the three-stage methodology, first: know the technology developments of companies and universities from developed countries, second: to select research topics taking into account the global development, companies issues and the community of university environment, third: disseminate the selected topics and conduct research on these issues with students in their courses. As a methodology application, two universities were visited, one in Germany and another in the United States;each professor developed a research topics portfolio related to their research lines, professional interest and specialization. Students are able to start their final thesis research when they are at the fifth or sixth level. © 2019 IEEE.

Agricultural drones are Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) applied to farming in order to help increase crop production and improve farm efficiency. Crop-dusting drones are able to spray powdered fertilizer, pesticide, or insecticide on crops from the air, resulting in reduced costs and increased efficiency compared to traditional methods. The objective of this research work was to improve and enhance the performance of the crop-dusting process using agricultural drones. This research paper details the development of an improved storage container design and stabilized release mechanism for crop-dusting. To stabilise the release of payload when the drone is moving or swaying in the air, a gimbal mechanism was added to the release mechanism in which weights were used to produce constant downward force which balances the mechanism. Tests conducted on the prototype system showed that it performs as required. The stabilization tests show an improvement in accuracy of granule spread when using the stabilized release mechanism developed in this research work. As such, the wastage of fertilizers and pesticides can be reduced. The prototype system was also found to much more capable at carrying heavier loads for a longer period of time compared to current designs. Thus, using the prototype system developed for this research work, the size of storage container as well as the weight of fertilizer or pesticide granule payloads can be increased.

The professional training of the electronic engineer must include competencies such as research, technological development and innovation. According to Peruvian Technical Standard NTP 732.001, technological development is the application of knowledge for the creation or improvement of products or processes or management up to the level of demonstrative pilots, and the technological development project activity (TDP), is linked to the design and implementation of a prototype that solves a requirement of reality. The research question is, which approach should address the management of activities RDI so that technological development projects allow contributing to develop new competencies in the engineer and preserve the knowledge generated? The UNPRG's Electronic engineering program aims to be a successful program thanks by its competitive professionals, its links with companies for activities RDI, valued by the knowledge generated by its students and professors, and the appropriate approach should be based on knowledge management and interdisciplinarity. © 2019 IEEE.

To improve the vocabulary ability is very important in language learning. Thus, if we can learn and remember a word very effectively, then we will be able to master a language more quickly. Therefore, many scholars began to propose related research. Due to the learning mechanism of human brain, sometimes when people learn a new knowledge they may forgot at a short time. In order to make the consideration more complete, after analyzing Hermann Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve experiment, we added two variables, one is the acceptance of each word by the same person, and the other is the ability of different people to remember vocabulary. With the above two parameters, we want to design a system to help user to review the vocabulary which may be forgetting before. The forgetting curve can be personalized, and it is more accurate to calculate the best time for each user to review the vocabulary. © 2019 IEEE.

Background: The adoption of Agile methods has grown significantly and now almost all software companies state that they are using some aspects of Agile in their software processes. However, the introduction of Agile methods into a software development environment is not a straightforward process. Thus, Agility Assessment (AA) is an important tool that supports the evaluation of how well a company has adopted the agile approach. Problem: Agility Assessment is usually a manual process and there are few automatic steps during the various phases. Part of this limitation arises because the requirements to check the agility of a project/company are still described in natural language and spread across many sources of documents such as manifestos and company policies. Aim: The aim of this paper is to organize the body of knowledge related to Agile Methods and identify a set of requirements that can be used in an Agility Assessment process. We extend the metaphor of a bad smell to an Agility Assessment context and propose the term Bad Agile Smell to describe an early warning signal that something in an agile project may need to be adjusted. Method: A literature review, as well a survey with practitioners, were conducted to identify a set of Agility Bad Smells. The resulting set of identified Agility Bad Smells is presented as a structured catalog. Result: We identified a set of 20 Bad Agile Smells for agile methods that were considered relevant according to research criteria. The agriculture industry is one that is highly resource- and labour-intensive. As such, farmers are increasingly turning to technology and automation to address this issue. However, agricultural robots are far too complicated, slow, and costly to be made publicly available. As a result, the agriculture sector still lags behind in integrating modern technologies. This research paper details the development of a low-cost agricultural robot for spraying fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture fields as well as for general crop monitoring. The prototype system is a two-wheeled robot that consists of a mobile base, a spraying mechanism, a wireless controller for controlling the robot movement, and a camera for crop health and growth monitoring as well as detecting the presence of pests in the agriculture field. Tests conducted on the prototype system show that while the productivity of the robot in terms of crop coverage is slightly lower than a human worker, the labour cost savings afforded by the agricultural robot prototype is much greater as it functions completely in an autonomous mode and only requires the operator to control the robot when placing it at the start of the crop path. Furthermore, the prototype system also provides greater resource savings and reduction in the contamination of underground water sources due to leeching process, thus achieving precision agriculture goals. Lastly, the excellent battery life of the prototype system ensures that there will be no increase in the operation times and reduction in the efficiency of the fertilizer and pesticide spraying process due to the recharging times when replacing human workers. Future recommendations include making the agricultural robot fully autonomous, using either a rail- or line-following system, to further reduce the labour requirements and costs.

When studied at finite temperature, Yang-Mills theories in 3+1 dimensions display the presence of confinement/deconfinement phase transitions, which are known to be of first order—the SU(2) gauge theory being the exception. Theoretical as well as phenomenological considerations indicate that it is essential to establish a precise characterization of these physical systems in proximity of such phase transitions. We present and test a new method to study the critical region of parameter space in non-Abelian quantum field theories on the lattice, based upon the logarithmic linear relaxation (LLR) algorithm. We apply this method to the SU(3) Yang-Mills lattice gauge theory, and perform extensive calculations with one fixed choice of lattice size. We identify the critical temperature, and measure interesting physical quantities near the transition. Among them, we determine the free energy of the model in the critical region, exposing for the first time its multivalued nature with a numerical calculation from first principles, providing this novel evidence in support of a first-order phase transition. This study sets the stage for future high-precision measurements, by demonstrating the potential of the method.

Agile Software Development is an important paradigm in the software engineering community and a significant movement in the software industry. According to Version One Survey 2018[28], 97% of the surveyed organizations are using some aspect of agile practices. However, the adoption of agile practices is not a straightforward task and there are many open questions related to agile methods that the academic community is trying to answer. One of the challenges of academic research related to Agile Software Development is the lack of metamodels to support the representation of agile projects. A preliminary investigation conducted in this study revealed that existing software development metamodels focus on representing elements related to software process definition and neglect aspects related to software project execution such as Iterations, Deliveries and Task Instances. This study aims at investigating how existing software development metamodels support the representation of agile software development projects and how they can be extended to fill possible gaps. To achieve this goal, we first identified a set of concepts, entities, and information related to agile projects. Then, we investigated how existing software development metamodels represent the identified elements. Finally, we proposed a metamodel, that we named Agile Software Development Project Metamodel (ASDPM), which contains the elements necessary to represent agile software development projects. © XXII Ibero-American Conference on Software engineering, CIbSE 2019. Organic fertilizers have been used since the dawn of mankind to improve soil fertility and promote crop growth. However, the process of preparing organic fertilizers for use in agricultural activities is a labour-intensive and time-consuming procedure. Thus, in order to reduce labour costs and improve the efficiency of organic fertilizer preparation, automated organic fertilizer mixers were developed. For this research work, an improved organic fertilizer mixer based on the Internet of Things (IoT) technology capable of monitoring the status of fertilizer production remotely and providing updates and alerts to workers was developed. The aim of this work was to further reduce labour workload and costs, thus increasing efficiency of the organic fertilizer mixing process. In order to accommodate the IoT monitoring system, several modifications and design changes were carried out on the prototype of an automated organic fertilizer mixer. Tests conducted on the prototype unit showed that it performs as required. The IoT monitoring system successfully captures and uploads information on the weight of agricultural waste mixture in the storage drum to the IoT platform. This information can then be used to alert workers on when to add more agricultural waste material to the mixture or remove the processed organic fertilizer. Furthermore, an overall operational cost comparison of different organic fertilizer production methods showed that the automated organic fertilizer prototype provides operational cost savings of over 5 times when compared to current automated systems. Future work includes further automation to the agricultural waste filling and organic fertilizer removal process.

Crop seeding is a time-consuming and tedious activity for farmers and is only exacerbated in large agriculture fields. Manually sowing seeds by hand is a highly inefficient process that requires a lot of human effort and can lead to health concerns for farmers, while spreading seedlings using tractors results in a high wastage of seedlings. This research paper describes the development of a low-cost agricultural robot for crop seeding. The prototype system consists of two parts, namely a mobile base for robot movement and a seeding mechanism attached to the mobile base for crop seeding application. The mobile base has a four-wheel design to ease movement on uneven terrains, while the seeding mechanism uses the concept of a crank-slider to continuously inject seedlings into the ground. Crop seeding tests show that the robot is able to sow 138 seedlings in 5 min, with an accuracy of 92%, compared to 102 seedlings by human workers. This demonstrates an increase in the crop seeding efficiency of over 35%. As for the battery life test, it was determined that the robot can function for up to 4 h on a single charge. Thus, there will not be an increase in the operation time and reduction in the efficiency of the crop seeding process due to the recharging times when human workers are replaced with the prototype system. The recharging duration for the robot power supply is 1.5 h. While the prototype system has successfully achieved its objective of reducing human interference, labour requirement, and the overall operating costs in the field of agriculture for crop seeding process, by making the robot fully autonomous, using either a rail- or line-following system, labour costs can be further reduced as an operator is not required to manually steer the robot to each seeding path.
