Medical imaging modalities, such as four-dimensional arterial spin label magnetic resonance angiography (4D ASL MRA), can acquire blood flow data of the cerebrovascular system. These datasets are useful to determine criteria of normality and diagnose, study, and follow-up on the treatment progress of cerebrovascular diseases. In particular, variations in the arterial transit time (ATT) are related to hemodynamic impairment as a consequence of vascular diseases. In order to obtain accurate ATT estimations, the acquisition parameters of the applied image modality need to be properly tuned. In case of 4D ASL MRA, two important acquisition parameters are the blood labeling duration and the temporal resolution. This paper evaluates the effect of different settings for the two mentioned parameters on the accuracy of the ATT estimation in 4D ASL MRA datasets. Six 4D ASL MRA datasets of a pipe containing a mixture of glycerine and water, circulated with constant flow rate using a pump, are acquired with different labeling duration and temporal resolution. A mathematical model is then fitted to the observed signal in order to estimate the ATT. The results indicate that the lowest average absolute error between the ground-truth and estimated ATT is achieved when the longest labeling duration of 1000 ms and the highest temporal resolution of 60 ms are used. The insight obtained from the experiments using a flow phantom, under controlled conditions, can be extended to tune acquisition parameters of 4D ASL MRA datasets of human subjects. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

MnBi2Te4 (MBT) is the first intrinsic magnetic topological insulator with the interaction of spin-momentum locked surface electrons and intrinsic magnetism, and it exhibits novel magnetic and topological phenomena. Recent studies suggested that the interaction of electrons and magnetism can be affected by the Mn-doped Bi2Te3 phase at the surface due to inevitable structural defects. Here we report an observation of nonreciprocal transport, i.e. current-direction-dependent resistance, in a bilayer composed of antiferromagnetic MBT and nonmagnetic Pt. The emergence of the nonreciprocal response below the Néel temperature confirms a correlation between nonreciprocity and intrinsic magnetism in the surface state of MBT. The angular dependence of the nonreciprocal transport indicates that nonreciprocal response originates from the asymmetry scattering of electrons at the surface of MBT mediated by magnon. Our work provides an insight into nonreciprocity arising from the correlation between magnetism and Dirac surface electrons in intrinsic magnetic topological insulators. © 2022, CC BY.

In this study, the inner position loop addition for plastic deformation control of the error robustness of the model and actual parameters is proposed. The inner position loop is a type of position feedback control based on the estimation of model parameters and dynamics of robots. This position control system with proportional and derivative gains modifies the trajectory of the end effector close to the desired trajectory. The robustness of the proposed control scheme is evaluated by comparing it with plastic deformation control without an inner position loop in both simulation and actual environments. Finally, the stable reaction with the proposed control is demonstrated for the case where a human pushes the robot finger.

Learning simulation combined with Virtual Reality has been widely used for nursing education to gain more knowledge during skills training and a better understanding of the clinical settings. Many studies have reported that nurse students are lack of knowledge about their professional clinical settings which might lead to error in conducting medical procedures. However, studies in the use of VR for nursing simulation still focus on skill materials and visual stimuli. This paper proposes a study on auditory stimuli for VR application for pre-registered nurses' education in critical care settings. Auditory stimuli were ambisonic files recorded at the foot of the patients' bed and nursing station. These files are then decoded into 7.1/stereo with head tracking system. Thirty-seven students at their final semester participated in this study joined the classical class (class session and field trip) and audio class (listening to audio files). The subjective assessment were taken after every class session to identify which sound is perceived as audible, important, and annoying. The acceptance of students to the additional audio media were also investigated. The results prove that the knowledge of student nurses about their clinical settings are adequate since they can determine audible and important sounds. However, their expectation about annoying sounds are clearly different. Furthermore, this proposed media are highly acceptable by the students so it can lead a significant improvement of their comments between classical and audio class. © 25th International Congress on Sound and Vibration 2018, ICSV 2018: Hiroshima Calling. The purpose of this research aims to show a thesis motivation strategy for systems engineering and electronic engineering undergraduates that allow them to obtain their bachelor's degree and professional title according to the three-stage methodology,, first: know the technology developments of companies and universities from developed countries, second: to select research topics taking into account the global development, companies issues and the community of university environment, third: disseminate the selected topics and conduct research on these issues with students in their courses. As a methodology application, two universities were visited, one in Germany and another in the United States; each professor developed a research topics portfolio related to their research lines, professional interest and specialization. Students are able to start their final thesis research when they are at the fifth or sixth level.

To improve the vocabulary ability is very important in language learning. Thus, if we can learn and remember a word very effectively, then we will be able to master a language more quickly. Therefore, many scholars began to propose related research. Due to the learning mechanism of human brain, sometimes when people learn a new knowledge they may forgot at a short time. In order to make the consideration more complete, after analyzing Hermann Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve experiment, we added two variables, one is the acceptance of each word by the same person, and the other is the ability of different people to remember vocabulary. With the above two parameters, we want to design a system to help user to review the vocabulary which may be forgetting before. The forgetting curve can be personalized, and it is more accurate to calculate the best time for each user to review the vocabulary.

Large cities situated within the developing countries facing one of the most important problems are heavy traffic congestion. It happened because of fast urbanization n. Many modern infrastructures for constructing a traffic signal have been introduced. Due to high maintenance cost and less knowledge of local workers that infrastructure doesn't work well. In this paper, we proposed a new technique for signal control framework, which estimates the traffic flows using the image analysis. For this technique inexpensive Web cameras are required for supporting signal control strategy which is based on traffic volume on that particular time. Traffic volumes can be estimated with few observation points. Based on that, signal controls can be adjusted. Numerical experiments of this proposed work confirmed that average travel time is reduced to 20.6% while comparing to the fixed-time signal control.

This paper presents a procedure to estimate a homogeneous equivalent resistivity for typical transmission line tower ground arrangements that are immersed in a stratified soil model. This technique is based on artificial neural network training due to a dataset developed in a numerical routine to compute grounding resistance. The results obtained from Levemberg-Marquadt algorithm and Bayesian regularization show good accuracy compared to the applied dataset and to the measurement data from a 230 kV transmission line, a practical case analyzed. We note medians lower than 5% and acceptable values of standard deviation for practical cases, which suggests that the proposed procedure can be used for real-world conditions.

Very high adoption of mobile phones enables the possibility of using mobile phones to empower type 2 diabetes patients to self-manage their diabetic condition by providing timely information in right context through the mobile application, thus facilitating them to make informed decisions. Having identified the lack of such information is badly affecting type 2 patients we embarked on a project to develop a mobile-based information system. We have developed an architecture for a mobile application that can help in empowering users to self-manage type 2 diabetes. We have received positive feedbacks from patients and health care provider after carrying out the evaluation of the application.
