The aim of this study was to compare the short-circuit forces in the U-type and I-type low voltage winding of a large power transformer. The comparison of forces calculated using 2D Rabinpsilas method and 3D finite element method is conducted. The influence of the winding helix pitch on the winding forces calculated using 3D finite element method is also investigated.

Among different power quality parameters, the voltage total harmonic distortion is important and often-analyzed category. Different indices have already been suggested to measure and to monitor both the current and the voltage distortion in power systems, but harmonic site characterization still cannot be performed in satisfactory way. The state of the harmonic distortion is difficult to predict due to variability and a large number of unknown, such as detailed consumer and system characteristics. In this paper a new index describing the total harmonic distortion in current measurements, total rated distortion (TRD), is suggested in order to simplify and standardize harmonic current measurements. Another index representing the increase of harmonic voltage distortion with TRD, equivalent harmonic impedance z_(eq), is proposed as an efficient way of characterizing a particular site. Finally, extensive harmonic measurements of a real distribution system were performed to prove the usefulness of the proposed indices.

In this paper, we study the global robust synchronization problem of the controlled Duffing system and the Van der Pol oscillator. By employing the internal model approach, we first show that the problem can be converted into a global robust stabilization problem of a time-varying nonlinear system in lower triangular form. Then we show that the global stabilization problem of the lower triangular system is solvable, thus leading to the solution of the global robust synchronization problem.

In ad hoc networks, the end-to-end delay of packets becomes long when other middle nodes transmit these packets and the multi-hops will affect the Quality-of-Service(QoS) of voice and video. This paper analyzes influence of multi-hops in ad hoc network by a simulative experiment, which put forward an improved access algorithm, called as More Hop First-EDCF (MHF-EDCF). The mechanisms are based on 802.11e EDCF and multi-hop characteristics of Ad Hoc networks with crosslayer method. MHF-EDCF offers a higher priority to multihops packets for voice and video. The results of simulation show that MHF-EDCF can reduce the end-to-end delay of multimedia traffic significantly and throughput of network is increased.

This paper presents the central finite-dimensional H ∞ filter for linear systems with measurement delay, that is suboptimal for a given threshold γ with respect to a modified Bolza-Meyer quadratic criterion including the attenuation control term with the opposite sign. In contrast to the results previously obtained for linear time delay systems, the paper reduces the original H ∞ filtering problem to an H 2 (optimal mean-square) filtering problem, using the technique proposed in [1]. Application of the reduction technique becomes possible, since the optimal filtering equations solving the H 2 (mean-square) filtering problems have been obtained for linear systems with measurement delay. The paper presents the central suboptimal H ∞ filter for linear systems with measurement delay, based on the optimal H 2 filter from [36], where the standard H ∞ filtering conditions of stabilizability, detectability, and noise orthonormality are assumed. Finally, to relax the standard conditions, the paper presents the generalized version of the designed H ∞ filter in the absence of the noise orthonormality. The proposed H ∞ filtering algorithm provides a direct method to calculate the minimum achievable values of the threshold γ, based on the existence properties for a bounded solution of the gain matrix equation. Numerical simulations are conducted to verify performance of the designed central suboptimal filter for linear systems with state delay against the central suboptimal H ∞ filter available for linear systems without delays. The simulation results show a definite advantage in the values of the noise-output transfer function H ∞ norms in favor of the designed filter.

There are many different instruction scheduling techniques that are used in compilers today. The most frequently used one is the list scheduling. It is easy to implement and gives good results in most cases. It works on the basic block level. According to Fisher and Rau instruction level parallelism that can be achieved using this technique cannot be greater then 2. Architectures with deep pipeline can run much more instructions in the same cycle and global scheduler techniques can give better results. In our tests we used a dominator path scheduler with three different strategies for choosing the scheduling paths. Our application encoded sound to the mp3 format, and was run on a digital signal processor with a deep pipeline. Using these scheduling techniques, our C compiler generated 10% fewer NOP instructions compared to local instruction scheduling. In addition, this implementation of a dominator path scheduler was used on a C compiler for SUN Sparc processors (for testing purposes only), and it was shown that the same implementation of the scheduler can be used for different platforms.

This paper presents the central finite-dimensional H ∞ filters for linear systems with state delay, that are suboptimal for a given threshold γ with respect to a modified Bolza-Meyer quadratic criterion including the attenuation control term with the opposite sign. In contrast to the results previously obtained for linear time delay systems, the paper reduces the original H ∞ filtering problems to H 2 (optimal mean-square) filtering problems, using the technique proposed in [1]. The paper first presents the central suboptimal H ∞ filter for linear systems with state delay, based on the optimal H 2 filter from [37], which contains a finite number of the filtering equations for any fixed filtering horizon, but this number grows unboundedly as time goes to infinity. To overcome that difficulty, the alternative central suboptimal H ∞ filter is designed for linear systems with state delay, which is based on the alternative optimal H 2 filter from [38]. Numerical simulations are conducted to verify performance of the designed central suboptimal filters for linear systems with state delay against the central suboptimal H ∞ filter available for linear systems without delays.

Language plays an important role in human and household service robot communication, and speech not only contains semantic information, but also involves the tone and emotion information of speakers. We have developed a chatting robot prototype which can use speech to communicate with users. The semantic information are used to produce response by this robot. However the emotion information is also an important clue to understand the users. Therefore how to get emotion state correctly by the chatting robot is an important issue. In this paper, speech emotion recognition of a specific person is implemented. In the experiment, mel-scale frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) and Pitch are selected as the features used in the recognition. Two emotion cases are investigated, including neutral and emotional. Two types AdaBoost algorithms: Real-AdaBoost and modest AdaBoost are chosen to construct classifiers. The average recognition rate reaches to 90%.

Bio-modeling has important role in virtual reality in telemedicine providing base for simulations and decisions. Virtual reality is based on sequences of volumetric images whose motion is captured in time. These data sets are typically very large in size and demand a great amount of resources for storage and transmission. Therefore it is necessary to compress this data both fast and efficiently. We will propose combination of lossless and lossy compression models to obtain toset demands.
