There are many different instruction scheduling techniques that are used in compilers today. The most frequently used one is the list scheduling. It is easy to implement and gives good results in most cases. It works on the basic block level. According to Fisher and Rau instruction level parallelism that can be achieved using this technique cannot be greater then 2. Architectures with deep pipeline can run much more instructions in the same cycle and global scheduler techniques can give better results. In our tests we used a dominator path scheduler with three different strategies for choosing the scheduling paths. Our application encoded sound to the mp3 format, and was run on a digital signal processor with a deep pipeline. Using these scheduling techniques, our C compiler generated 10% fewer NOP instructions compared to local instruction scheduling. In addition, this implementation of a dominator path scheduler was used on a C compiler for SUN Sparc processors (for testing purposes only), and it was shown that the same implementation of the scheduler can be used for different platforms.

Finite-Dimensional H ∞ Filter Design for Linear Systems with State Delay

This paper presents the central finite-dimensional H ∞ filters for linear systems with state delay, that are suboptimal for a given threshold γ with respect to a modified Bolza-Meyer quadratic criterion including the attenuation control term with the opposite sign. In contrast to the results previously obtained for linear time delay systems, the paper reduces the original H ∞ filtering problems to H 2 (optimal mean-square) filtering problems, using the technique proposed in [1]. The paper first presents the central suboptimal H ∞ filter for linear systems with state delay, based on the optimal H 2 filter from [37], which contains a finite number of the filtering equations for any fixed filtering horizon, but this number grows unboundedly as time goes to infinity. To overcome that difficulty, the alternative central suboptimal H ∞ filter is designed for linear systems with state delay, which is based on the alternative optimal H 2 filter from [38]. Numerical simulations are conducted to verify performance of the designed central suboptimal filters for linear systems with state delay against the central suboptimal H ∞ filter available for linear systems without delays.

Language plays an important role in human and household service robot communication, and speech not only contains semantic information, but also involves the tone and emotion information of speakers. We have developed a chatting robot prototype which can use speech to communicate with users. The semantic information are used to produce response by this robot. However the emotion information is also an important clue to understand the users. Therefore how to get emotion state correctly by the chatting robot is an important issue. In this paper, speech emotion recognition of a specific person is implemented. In the experiment, mel-scale frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) and Pitch are selected as the features used in the recognition. Two emotion cases are investigated, including neutral and emotional. Two types AdaBoost algorithms: Real-AdaBoost and modest AdaBoost are chosen to construct classifiers. The average recognition rate reaches to 90%.

Bio-modeling has important role in virtual reality in telemedicine providing base for simulations and decisions. Virtual reality is based on sequences of volumetric images whose motion is captured in time. These data sets are typically very large in size and demand a great amount of resources for storage and transmission. Therefore it is necessary to compress this data both fast and efficiently. We will propose combination of lossless and lossy compression models to obtain toset demands.

In this work authors extend the model of the reinforcement learning paradigm for multi-agent systems called "Influence Value Reinforcement Learning" (IVRL). In previous work an algorithm for repetitive games was proposed, and it outperformed traditional paradigms. Here, authors define an algorithm based on this paradigm for using when agents has to learn from delayed rewards, thus, an influence value reinforcement learning algorithm for two agents stochastic games. The IVRL paradigm is based on social interaction of people, specially in the fact that people communicate each other what they think about their actions and this opinion has some influence in the behavior of each other. A modified version of Q-Learning algorithm using this paradigm was constructed. The so called IVQ-Learning algorithm was implemented and compared with versions of Q-Learning for independent learning and joint action learning. Our approach shows to have more probability to converge to an optimal equilibrium than IQ-Learning and JAQ-Learning algorithms, specially when exploration increases. © 2007 IEEE.

In this paper authors propose a new paradigm for learning coordination in multi-agent systems. This approach is based on social interaction of people, specially in the fact that people communicate each other what they think about their actions and this opinion can influence the behavior of each other. It is proposed a model in which agents, into a multi-agent system, learns to coordinate actions giving opinions about actions of other agents and also being influenced with opinions of other agents about their actions. This paradigm was used to develop a modified version of the Q-learning algorithm. This algorithm was tested and compared with independent learning (IL) and joint action learning (JAL) in two single state problems with two agents. This approach shows to have more probability to converge to an optimal equilibrium than IL and JAL Q-learning algorithms. Also, it does not need to make an entire model of all joint actions like JAL algorithms. © 2007 IEEE.

We all know that our eyes can inherently and effectively recognize/classify objects under complex conditions. Hence, we believe that an efficient clustering approach not only depends on the principles of physical systems by which the data are generated but also on the manner that human eyes sense the structure of the data. In this study a visual system theoretic cost criterion function is proposed and based upon which a new clustering algorithm is derived. The new cost criterion is visual sampling and Weber's law is applied. The new criterion function can be made "kemelized" so that developed based on a visual system modeling of the multi-dimensional data where the visual system theories like different kernel functions can be used under different practical requirements. Furthermore, it evaluates the tightness of intra-group's data distribution and the separable degree among groups simultaneously. The experimental results demonstrate that the new clustering algorithm is especially suitable for nonlinearly separable datasets. © 2007 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. This paper presents a new approach based on HMM/ANN hybrid for online signature verification. A group of ANNs are used as local probability estimators for an HMM. The Viterbi algorithm is employed to work out the global posterior probability of a model. The proposed HMM/ANN hybrid has a strong discriminant ability, i.e, from a local sense, the ANN can be regarded as an efficient classifier, and from a global sense, the posterior probability is consistent with that of a Bayes classifier. Finally, the experimental results show that this approach is promising and competing. ©2007 IEEE.
