Immune-inspired algorithms based on the Immune Network theory have been frequently claimed to be capable of maintaining diversity among the candidate solutions in their population. However, no specific study on this aspect to verify how the intrinsic diversity mechanisms of such immune algorithms behave, when compared to other approaches from the literature, has been made yet. Therefore, in this work we have addressed this issue, by taking the opt-aiNet algorithm (a popular immune-inspired algorithm developed for real-parameter optimization) and comparing its results with those of a modified version, in which the mechanisms associated with diversity maintenance were replaced by a traditional fitness sharing approach. Besides, two distance metrics were also considered for both algorithms: the traditional Euclidean distance, and the Line Distance, a metric proposed in the literature as capable of identifying whether two solutions belong to distinct local optima. The experiments were performed on six benchmark problems from the literature, each of them with distinct characteristics, and the results have shown that the original immune-inspired mechanisms of opt-aiNet are indeed more capable of stimulating the diversity of solutions, and also requiring a smaller amount of computational resources.

Most systems are controlling by common PID controllers. These PID controllers are available in variety possibilities. They are divided by types of controlling systems, by speed of action interference, by complexity, by robustness etc. Most of industrial controllers are very expensive and except of some basic setting they are not offering any other way, how to involve into controlling process. On the other side, developing new analog controller to control simple systems is not reasonable in financial or time issue. That's why we decided to build simple, discrete controller and implement its algorithm into single chip eight bit microcontroller (MCU). This discrete controller - PSD - is characteristic its simplicity and variability. It can control plenty of less complicated systems by a mere change of its characteristic parameters. Thanks to modern approach is possible to create a full-featured controller including power action element on an area equal to 7cm 2 .

Texture feature has been widely used in object recognition, image content analysis and many others. Among various approaches to texture feature extraction, Gabor filter has emerged as one of the most popular ones. Gabor filter-based feature extractor is in fact a Gabor filter bank defined by its parameters including frequencies, orientations and smooth parameters of Gaussian envelope. In the literature, different parameter settings have been suggested, and filter banks created by these parameter settings work well in general. From the perspective of pattern classification, however, filter banks thus designed may not be ideal. In the present study, we propose a new approach to Gabor filter bank design, by incorporating feature selection, i.e. filter selection, into the design process. The merits of incorporating filter selection in filter bank design are twofold. Firstly, filter selection produces a compact Gabor filter bank and hence reduces computational complexity of texture feature extraction. Secondly, Gabor filter bank thus designed produces low-dimensional feature representation with improved sample-to-feature ratio, and this in turn leads to improved performance of texture classification. Experiment results on benchmark datasets and a real application have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The need of continuous blood pressure measurement is usable in wide spectrum of applications from physicians practice to home care applications. Many types of blood pressure measurement devices can be bought in electronics shops. All such devices are contact measurement devices which need to be in contact of human body (hand or foot mainly). Secondary they allow only one measurement per several minutes interval (typically ones in 10 minutes). Our goal is to develop a small device for noninvasive continuous measurement of blood pressure. This device must be a small battery powered embedded system which measure a blood pressure during a long time period and send this information remotely to operator's stations. We would like to try two systems of blood pressure monitoring. The first one is system with NIR CCD camera (Near Infra Red), which measure the wide changes of the blood vessels and the second one is system, which measure the pulse transmit time (PTT). At the end we can compare the systems and get information, which system will be a right way to obtain exact continuous blood pressure information.

Texture feature has been widely used in image segmentation, classification, retrieval and many others. Among various approaches to texture feature extraction, Gabor filtering has emerged as one of the most popular in recent years. Gabor filter-based texture feature extractor is in fact a Gabor filter bank defined by its parameters including frequencies, orientations and smoothing parameters of the Gaussian envelope. In the literature, these parameters are often set by trial and error, based on the experience of the user, and the Gabor filter banks thus designed are often over-sized. To address the problem mentioned above, we propose to design compact Gabor filter banks by incorporating filter selection in this study. We develop a new Mahalanobis separability measure-based supervised approach to address the need of texture feature extraction. The strengths of our methods are twofold. Firstly, the proposed method provides a systematic way for Gabor filter bank design to avoid manmade bias. Secondly, the compact filter banks thus designed overcomes the problem of redundant or insignificant/irrelevant filter banks, and this in turn leads to improved performance of texture classification. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach.

Classical linear dimensional reduction algorithms, such as Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Locality Preserving Projections (LPP) have been widely used in computer vision and pattern recognition. However, when dealing with the multidimensional dataset, they usually first transform the original data to vectors, and then analyze the data in such a high dimensional space. This process inevitably results in some obvious disadvantages. This paper proposes a novel two-dimensional dimensionality reduction algorithm called 2D Neighborhood Discriminant Projection (2D-NDP), which is based directly on 2D image matrices rather than 1D vectors. 2D-NDP detects the intrinsic class-relationships between the images by incorporating both class label information and neighborhood information. It can optimally preserve not only the local class information but discriminant information as well. Under the orthogonal constrain, 2D-NDP is developed as orthogonal 2D-NDP for classification. Experiments on the face database and the plant leaf database demonstrate that orthogonal 2D-NDP is effective and feasible for classification.

This paper is concerned with H ∞ -design for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with multiple state-delays via the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The transfer delays and packet loss that are induced by the limited bandwidth of communication networks are considered. The focus of this paper is on the analysis and design of a full-order H ∞ filter, such that the filtering-error dynamics are stochastically stable, and a prescribed H ∞ attenuation level is guaranteed. Sufficient conditions are established for the existence of the desired filter in terms of linear-matrix inequalities (LMIs). An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed design method.

This paper deals with a possibility of non-destructive diagnostics of solid objects by software analysis of vibration spectrum by accelerometers. By a use of MATLAB platform, a processing and information evaluation from accelerometer is possible. Accelerometer is placed on the measured object. The analog signal needs to be digitized by a special I/O device to be processed offline with FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation). The power spectrum is then examined by developed evaluating procedures.

In this paper, we propose an automatic way of recommending information to be visualized by users. The list of information to be recommended is generated based on the web logs of the users stored by the system in a multi relational database. This system is a web-based multi-agent system which provides geographical information and monitors the actions of the users by generating logs. Frequently, the system joins the relational web log data and runs a clustering algorithm in order to recommend a list of most accessed information up to that moment to registered users who log in the system.
