Rapid growth and challenges are likely to be experienced by energy generation, delivery, and consumption in the upcoming years, which in turn affect the economic and environmental perspectives. University buildings account for a significant portion of global energy consumption and associated CO₂ emissions, and this is expected to rise substantially in the near future. Unawareness of energy efficiency in academic buildings results in weak sustainability financially and environmentally. This paper aims to review the existing studies related to energy management, efficiency, prediction, and recommendations in university buildings. Various works and algorithms were discussed addressing the challenges and limitations in the existing systems, and proposing insights as an attempt to fill the gap in this significant research domain. Additionally, the limitations of current systems, which offer only short-term solutions, become evident over time. These systems are ineffective in the long run as they lack predictive capabilities that could guide users toward predefined savings goals, actions, recommendations, or established energy standards. The paper states that to facilitate energy efficiency and manage consumption, it is important to extract patterns of energy consumption by data modelling and predictive algorithms to achieve the ultimate goal of consumption recommending and advising. This data driven decisions can support the reduction of energy load which helps in having more sustainable infrastructure and ensures less economic and financial expansion. Practically, the main objective is to support universities to save energy, reduce electricity bills, and maintain people comfort. This article describes the architecture of software services that provide registration of small boat data to build maritime safety. The proposed system architecture which so-called SIMKAPEL aims to support small boat registration for maritime safety. It is developed from a conventional service-oriented architecture (SOA) with an open standard for data interoperability between elements. The goal of this research is to implement and evaluate the proposed architecture to support small boat registration and e-certification. Several parts of the architecture have been implemented as a platform that provides core services and data sources to be used by Ministry of Transportation, Directorate General of Sea Transportation, and other government agencies. Finally, the proposed SIMKAPEL platform with the SOA architecture is evaluated for its benefits to users through the expert opinion survey to measure its efficiency. The analysis results showed that SOA-based SIMKAPEL is feasible to use as a boat e-certification system. Furthermore, experiment results provide three parameters (e.g., maritime safety, namely, cargo/passengers, boat safety facilities, and maritime safety systems) with efficiency values of 42%, 46%, and 42%, respectively. The parameter with the highest efficiency shows a big effect on the level of safety of the boat and passengers. Thus, the parameters that need to be prioritized and need boat owners’ attention are cargo/passenger, boat safety equipment, and maritime safety system. © 2023, The Author(s).

Mixed reality is becoming more popular, and a lot of technology companies trying to develop and enhance mixed reality technology and using it not just in manufactures or industries but lately the technology is used for teaching and learning, either in school or for training purposes. While traditional teaching and learning processes are not effective anymore and most of the time, the learning objectives are not reached. This paper has an objective to point out the benefits of using mixed reality for teaching and learning. 99 articles have been collected and reviewed carefully as a quality assessment process, there are 41 articles has been selected for further review and top 5 benefits will be discussed. This review informs educators and scholars that there are common benefits, and the most popular benefit is better learning engagement. © 2021 IEEE.

Real-time social interactions and multi-streaming are two critical features of live streaming services. In this paper, we formulate a new fundamental service query, Social-aware Diverse and Preferred Organization Query (SDSQ), that jointly selects a set of diverse and preferred live streaming channels and a group of socially tight viewers for organization of a live multi-streaming soiree. We prove that SDSQ is NP-hard and inapproximable within any factor, and design SDSSel, a 2-approximation algorithm with a guaranteed error bound. Moreover, we study SDSQ-T, a special case of SDSQ, where the social graph is a threshold graph, and propose TDSSel, a 2-approximation algorithm without any error to SDSQ-T. We propose two pruning strategies, PCP and CDP to boost SDSSel and TDSSel. We further propose a more challenging but practical service query, Generalized Social-aware Maximum Preferred and Diverse Query (GSPQ), a generalization of SDSQ. We design GPDSel, a 4-approximation algorithm for GSPQ with a guaranteed error bound. We propose a strategy to improve the approximation ratios of the proposed algorithms. A user study on Twitch validates SDSQ, and the large-scale experiments on real datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithms over several baselines for live-streaming services. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Background: The correlation between parental and child physical activity levels has been the subject of significant investigation. Existing research has illuminated this association, particularly emphasising its influence during childhood. However, as children transition into adolescence, this relationship appears to weaken. Despite the recognised importance of parental involvement in promoting physical activity among children, scant attention has been directed towards understanding effective strategies and interventions to bolster this relationship. Consequently, there exists a critical gap in the literature concerning actionable measures to enhance parent-child physical activity engagement during the pivotal stage of adolescence. Methods: The ACTIBESE project aims to assess and intervene in Chilean schoolchildren’s active behaviours by examining the influence of personal, interpersonal, and school factors. This study includes a cross-sectional and intervention study involving schools in the Valparaíso and Araucanía Regions, representing urban and rural areas. Participants, divided into children (8–11 years old) and adolescents (12–16 years old), will undergo a comprehensive evaluation, including sociodemographic characteristics, physical activity (PA) levels, parental and peer support, teaching styles of the teachers, and school environment characteristics. In the intervention study, a 5-month continuous training program for teachers will be implemented, focusing on improving teaching styles and enhancing teaching competencies related to physical education and health classes. The research will use mixed models, ANCOVA, and logistic regressions for data analysis, network analysis, exploratory factors analysis, and structural equation modelling. In this paper, we present a comment labeling system based on a deep learning strategy. We treat the answer selection task as a sequence labeling problem and propose recurrent convolution neural networks to recognize good comments. In the recurrent architecture of our system, our approach uses 2-dimensional convolutional neural networks to learn the distributed representation for question-comment pair, and assigns the labels to the comment sequence with a recurrent neural network over CNN. Compared with the conditional random fields based method, our approach performs better performance on Macro-F1 (53.82%), and achieves the highest accuracy (73.18%), F1-value (79.76%) on predicting the Good class in this answer selection challenge. © 2015 Association for Computational Linguistics

Variable length code is an integral component of many international standards on image and video compression. Recently, Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding (CAVLC) is adopted by the emerging JVT (also called H.264 in ITU. and AVC in MPEG-4). In this paper, we describe a novel architecture for CAVLC decoder, including a coeff_token decoder, level decoder, tolalzeros decoder and runbefore decoder. Together with a barrel shifter and controller, the pipeline architecture can decode every syntax element in one clock cycle. Therefore, it is very suitable for video applications that require high throughput. © 2003 IEEE

In a music scenario, both auditory and visual elements are essential to achieve an outstanding performance. Recent research has focused on the generation of body movements or fingering from audio in music performance. The audio-driven face generation technique in music performance is still deficient. In this paper, we compile a violin soundtrack and facial expression dataset (VSFE) for modeling facial expressions in violin performance. To our knowledge, this is the first dataset mapping the relationship between violin performance audio and musicians' facial expressions. We then propose a 3DCNN network with self-attention and residual blocks for audio-driven facial expression generation. In the experiments, we compare our methods with three baselines on talking face generation. The codes and dataset are available on the Github (https://***/kevinlin91/icassp-music2face). © 2023 IEEE.

Text similarity calculation has become one of the key issues of many applications such as information retrieval, semantic disambiguation, automatic question answering. There are increasing needs of similarity calculations in different levels, e.g. characters, vocabularies, syntactic structures and semantic etc. Most of existing semantic similarity algorithms can be categorized into statistical based methods, rule based methods and combination of these two methods. Statistical methods use knowledge bases to incorporate more comprehensive knowledge and have the capability of reducing knowledge noise. So they are able to obtain better performance. Nevertheless, for the unbalanced distribution of different items in the knowledge base, semantic similarity calculation performance for low-frequency words is usually poor. In this work, based on the distributions of stop-words, we proposes a weights normalization method for semantic dimensions. The proposed method uses the semantic independence of stop-words to avoid semantic bias of corpus in statistical methods. It further improves the accuracy of semantic similarity computation. Experiments compared with several existing algorithms show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Making decisions requires different information, especially when it is crucial. The traditional Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a great algorithm that will help make these decisions more quickly because it organizes the choices in a hierarchy. However, this algorithm has trouble with big datasets and changing decision settings because they depend on pairwise comparisons and subjective judgments when making decisions. Additionally, fuzzy and stochastic AHP algorithms were developed to improve the traditional ones. However, these algorithms are complex to use on a large scale and require many computers. This study presents a novel algorithm (Top-TC AHP) that integrates Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Top-K algorithms into the traditional AHP to help people make decisions faster and better. It uses SVM to sort data and get the probabilities of the criteria for the alternatives and Top-K to choose the top options. Time complexity, consistency ratio, and throughput were the metrics used to gauge the performance of the novel algorithm. As a result, when comparing Top-TC AHP to other ways, it gets better consistency, makes computing more manageable, and speeds things up. Because of this, it is beneficial for dealing with large amounts of data and situations that change quickly. In addition, the Top-TC AHP algorithm can help people make smart decisions in many areas, such as business and school planning. ©2024 IEEE.
