In this paper, based on 3d wavelet moments we present a new method called fractal scale descriptors for 3d objects. Just like wavelet moments, they are still robust to translation, rotation and scale, and have the multi-resolution features in the radial direction, which can handle noise to some extent and provide multi-level features to satisfy various requirements. Furthermore the new method is prior to the original 3d wavelet moments in computational complexity by using the fast algorithm of the spherical harmonics together with the Mallat algorithm of the wavelets.

Due to the existence of a large amount of legacy information systems, how to obtain the information and integrate the legacy systems is becoming more and more concerned. This paper introduces the integration pattern based on agent grid. And we propose an agent grid intelligent platform called AGrIP, which can erase information islands and integrate external systems efficiently by encapsulating the distributed application system to agents. AGrIP adopts distributed hierarchical structure, which is capable of integrating external systems to provide the users various services dynamically. AGrIP has proved itself scalable and efficient during the industry projects development and application.

For broadcast sports video, score information is an effective mid-level representation to facilitate high-level video content analysis. In this paper, we propose a real-time approach to detect score region and recognize scores in broadcast basketball video. First, score region is automatically detected using frame difference and texture information without any prior knowledge. Then, score digit is recognized using a coarse-to-fine scheme based on score spatial structure, temporal correlation and changing rules. Compared with traditional video text recognition method, our approach is computing-insensitive and independent of digit model training. Experimental results show that our approach achieves real-time performance and is robust for the variation of digit font, size, color and noise caused by low frame resolution in broadcast basketball video.

Due to the increasing software complexity, how to integrate the legacy data resources and systems is a big challenge for the enterprise. This paper makes full use of agent technologies to establish an agent grid intelligent platform for enterprise heterogeneous system integration. The agent grid intelligent platform adopts a hierarchical integration model and middleware to provide efficient integration capability for different application systems. Finally, this paper introduces the grid based city emergency interaction system to illustrate the AGrIP practical system integration.

Current mammographic screening for breast cancer is less effective for younger women. To complement mammography for premenopausal women, we investigated the feasibility screening test using 98 blood serum proteins. Because the data set was very noisy and contained only weak features, we used a classifier designed for noisy data: decision fusion. Decision fusion outperformed both a support vector machine (SVM) and linear regression with forward stepwise feature selection on all three two-class classification tasks: normal tissue vs. cancer, normal tissue vs. benign lesions, and benign lesions vs. cancer. Decision fusion detected cancer moderately well (AUC=0.84 on normal vs. cancer), demonstrating promise as a screening tool. Decision fusion also detected benign lesions similarly well (AUC=0.83 on normal vs. benign lesions) and was the only classifier to achieve any success in separating benign from malignant lesions (AUC=0.64 on benign vs. cancer). The classification results suggest that the assayed proteins are more indicative of a secondary effect, such as immune response, rather than specific for breast cancer. In conclusion, the decision fusion classifier demonstrated some promise in detecting breast lesions and outperformed other classifiers, especially for the very noisy classification problem of distinguishing benign from malignant lesions.

The WATERS Network (WATer and Environmental Research Systems Network) will be an integrated real-time distributed observing system which will enable academic and government scientists, engineers, educators, and practitioners to advance effective management of our nation's water resources by understanding human interactions with water and the natural and built environment. WATERS will provide easily accessible real time environmental data as well as analysis tools to engineers, scientists, educators, K- graduate students and policymakers so they can better understand how water quantity, quality and related components of the hydrologic cycle are impacted by natural and human influences. The WATERS strategic plan will be completed by July 2007 and requires constituent input. This paper describes the draft Conceptual Design and the Education Plan of WATERS Network. This paper will highlight the potential impact of WATERS on undergraduate and graduate environmental engineering education in order to elicit input from the environmental engineering education community on how WATERS Network could better meet the future needs of undergraduate and graduate students and educators. Privacy-Preserving Distance Measurement and Its Applications

Distance measurement is widely used in many computations. The known methods usually require one to know the whole data of the engaged objects, they aren't fit for the situation where the concerned data objects belong to different users and no user is willing to disclose his information to other users. In this paper, the privacy-preserving distance measurement is studied. The multiplication problem is first proposed and the multiplication protocol is developed based on the Pallier's homomorphic encryption schemes. A general distance measure protocol and an efficient two dimensional distance protocol are presented respectively. In the proposed solutions, secure multi-party computation techniques are adopted instead of a third party as used in the known methods. Our method proves to be secure and efficient and their applications are also discussed.

In this paper, we first introduce the analytical R-D model of scalable video in our recent work. The R-D model is induced by the R-D analysis of Generalized Gaussian Distribution (GGD). Then we proposed a simple algorithm for constant quality reconstruction of scalable video using the analytical R-D model. It needs not any search operation. The computation complexity of the proposed algorithm is O(N), where N is the smoothed frames. Extensive experiments on MPEG-4 FGS video show the efficiency and effective of our algorithm. Since our R-D analysis and smooth algorithm are general, intuitively they can be used in SVC video.

An Efficient VLSI Architecture for Motion Compensation of AVS HDTV Decoder

In the part 2 of advanced Audio Video coding Standard （AVS-P2）, many efficient coding tools are adopted in motion compensation, such as new motion vector prediction, symmetric matching, quarter precision interpolation, etc. However, these new features enormously increase the computational complexity and the memory bandwidth requirement, which make motion compensation a difficult component in the implementation of the AVS HDTV decoder. This paper proposes an efficient motion compensation architecture for AVS-P2 video standard up to the Level 6.2 of the Jizhun Profile. It has a macroblock-level pipelined structure which consists of MV predictor unit, reference fetch unit and pixel interpolation unit. The proposed architecture exploits the parallelism in the AVS motion compensation algorithm to accelerate the speed of operations and uses the dedicated design to optimize the memory access. And it has been integrated in a prototype chip which is fabricated with TSMC 0.18-#m CMOS technology, and the experimental results show that this architecture can achieve the real time AVS-P2 decoding for the HDTV 1080i （1920 - 1088 4 ： 2 ： 0 60field/s） video. The efficient design can work at the frequency of 148.5MHz and the total gate count is about 225K.
