In a grid computing environment, resources are autonomous, wide-area distributed, and what's more, they are usually not free. These unique characteristics make scheduling in a self-sustainable and market-like grid highly challenging. The goal of our work is to build such a global computational grid that every participant has enough incentive to stay and play in it. There are two parties in the grid: resource consumers and resource providers. Thus the performance objective of scheduling is two-fold: for consumers, high successful execution rate of jobs, and for providers, fair allocation of benefits. We propose an incentive-based grid scheduling, GridIS, which is composed of a P2P decentralized scheduling framework and incentive-based scheduling algorithms. Simulation results show that GridIS guarantees the incentive of every participant to a satisfying extent.

Today's collaborative applications over the web span domains as diverse as enterprise e-commerce applications and biomedical applications. We have previously developed and formally investigated "Web Coordination Bonds," a theoretically powerful artifact for interconnecting autonomous web objects for control and data flows, and for enforcing dependencies. Here, we describe BondFlow, a system that enables the configuration and execution of workflows using web bonds over heterogeneous web objects. The system automatically generates lightweight proxy wrapper objects to enable encapsulated web services to be interconnected through web bonds. The small footprint wrappers (less than 10 KB) can reside on Java-enabled handheld devices. We describe the design, architecture and performance of the Bond-Flow system. Our initial performance results indicate that both wrapper creation time and web bond related execution time are small. In contrast to our BondFlow system, existing systems need expert programming to create workflows, do not easily allow distributed coordination of workflows, and usually do not support heterogeneity of device, data and network. The system is preliminary, and further research is ongoing to extend its configuration and execution platforms.

The simulation and analysis of human motion is a popular issue in simulation area and it is highly valued in sport motion training and analysis. Video is the main record form of athlete train. It is significant if we put the athlete motion of video and the normal motion of 3D virtual athlete of simulation system into the same screen because it is easy and accurate to compare the difference between them. And it will greatly benefit the athletes so that they can compare their motions with the normal motion of 3D virtual athlete and improve their competition level. While the motion of 3D virtual athlete can be observed from different viewpoints, the appearance will be different. So it is crucial to ensure that the viewpoint of virtual camera in simulation system and that in the video are the same. To solve the problem, a new concept of virtual-real comparison is put forward. Virtual here refers to the simulated motion and real is the sport video. The virtual-real comparison technique is to get the camera information from video and to adjust the view point of the virtual camera of 3D simulation system automatically. This technique is implemented in a trampoline sport simulation system and sound results are obtained. The use of virtual-real comparison technique extends the function of the sport simulation system and has greatly benefited the athlete in training.

We proposed the UPRISE (unified presentation slide retrieval by impression search engine) to retrieve scenes matched with given keywords from a video recording a lecture using presentation slides. To distinguish the most suitable scene for the keywords from scenes using reused or backtracked slides, we proposed a number of impression indicators based on the position, duration and context. The combined indicator is provide higher precision than the traditional TF-IDF. Moreover, our approach can still be improved by combining with some specificity factor like IDF. However, it is important to choose some appropriate range of calculating the factor. In this paper, we propose a new specificity factor ISFP (inverse scene frequency in a presentation) to indicate the appearance ratio of a keyword in a presentation corresponding to a lecture. We also have to consider scope of output. Sometimes, it is preferable to provide scenes from beginning the topic as output. To adjust the scope of output dynamically, we propose a new concept "output range". We evaluate the ISFP and scope varying method using actual lecture presentations. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is effective especially for keywords appeared less frequently

Image matching is a fundamental task of many computer vision problems. In this paper we present a novel approach for matching two images in the presence of image rotation, scale, and illumination changes. The proposed approach is based on local invariant features. A two-step process detects local invariant regions. Characteristic circles associated with these regions illustrate the position and radius of the regions. Then, the regions are represented by a new image descriptor. To test the new descriptor, we evaluate it in image matching and retrieval experiments. The experimental results show that using our descriptors results in effective and faster matching.
