Over the last decades, there has been growing interest in research in multiple and interdisciplinary fields of human-AI computing. In particular, approaches integrating the intersecting design with reinforcement learning (RL) have received more attention. However, the current research on RL may need to consider its enhancement from a humaninspired approach further. In the present work, we focus on enabling a meta-reinforcement learning (meta-RL) agent to achieve adaptation and generalization according to modeling Markov decision processes using Bayesian knowledge and analysis. By introducing a novel framework called human-inspired meta-RL (HMRL), we incorporate the agent performing resilient actions to leverage the dynamic dense reward based on the knowledge and prediction of a Bayesian analysis. The proposed framework can make the agent learn generalization and prevent the agent from failing catastrophically. The experimental results show that our approach helps the agent reduce computational costs with learning adaptation. Finally, we conclude and anticipate that integrating human-inspired meta-RL can enable learning more formulations relating to robustness and scalability, leading to promising directions and more complex AI goals in the future. © 2023 IEEE.

The multimodal and time-varying aspects of blind equalization problems in communication systems are treated here by means of an immune-inspired strategy capable of estimating the coefficients of the FIR equalization filter in an unsupervised manner. The associated optimization problem is solved by means of a population-based search technique characterized by a dynamic control of the population size and diversity maintenance. Static and time-varying channels have been proposed in simulated scenarios, aiming at indicating the tracking capability derived from the adaptive adjustment of the coefficients of the blind equalizer. © 2005 IEEE.

ISS (Instruction Set Simulator) plays an important role in pre-silicon software development for ASIP. However, the speed of traditional simulation is too slow to effectively support full-scale software development. In this paper, we propose a hybrid simulation framework which further improves the previous simulation methods by aggressively utilizing the host machine resources. The utilization is achieved by categorizing instructions of ASIP application into two types, namely custom and basic instructions, via binary instrumentation. Then in a way of hybrid simulation, only custom instructions are simulated on the ISS and basic instructions are executed fast and natively on the host machine. We implement this framework for an industrial ASIP to validate our approach. Experimental results show that when the implemented ISS, namely GS-Sim, is applied to practical multimedia decoders, an average simulation speed up to 1058.5MIPS can be achieved, which is 34.7 times of the state-of-art dynamic binary translation simulator and is the fastest to the best of our knowledge. © 2011 IEEE.

The computational power of concurrent data types has been the focus of much recent research. Herlihy showed that such power may be measured by examining the type's ability to implement wait-free consensus. Jayanti argued that this "ability" could be measured in different ways, depending, for example, on whether or not read/write registers could be used in an implementation. He demonstrated the significance of this distinction by exhibiting a nondeterministic type whose ability to implement consensus was increased with the availability of registers. We show that registers cannot increase the computational power (to implement consensus) of any deterministic type or of any type that can implement 2-process consensus. These results significantly impact upon the study of the wait-free hierarchies of concurrent data types. In particular, the combination of these results with other recent works shows that Jayanti's h_m hierarchy is robust for deterministic types. © 1994 ACM.

Mangroves play an important role in providing essential ecosystem services and resources for fisheries, offering protection against climate change and coastal erosion. Understanding the changes in mangrove forests is essential for the sustainability of the coastal ecosystem. The study aims to analyze the spatiotemporal changes of mangrove forests in Tarakan Island using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 images from 2018 and 2023. The analysis shows changes in land cover, with an increase in aquaculture land and a decrease in other land types. The results of the accuracy assessment show good results, with an accuracy value of 0.82 and a Kappa value of 0.78 in the mangrove areas in 2023. These values indicate that the classification of land cover in the study area was reliable and accurate. The conversion of mangrove forests into aquaculture land poses a challenge for their conservation. Therefore, preserving and conserving mangrove forests in the study area is essential for maintaining the ecological balance and supporting the livelihoods of local communities. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Powder bed fusion of metals with laser beam (PBF-LB/M) using Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) has enabled delicate fabrication of biocompatible medical implants. This research focuses on how the spatial uniformity of laser irradiation affects material under continuous wave (CW) and pulse width modulated (PWM) laser conditions, using a self-developed PBF-LB/M system. The volumetric energy density (VED) was used as a reference parameter in order to accurately compare the effects of CW and PWM lasers, but limitations of VED, which does not include spatial and kinetic factors, which are reinforced in the PWM laser process, were also considered. Results revealed that the uniform distribution of energy irradiation across the entire region brought similar porosities and Vickers hardness tendencies for CW and PWM laser processes. In contrast, the spatially nonuniform energy transfer resulted in a significantly higher porosity in the specimen fabricated using the PWM laser than that produced using the CW laser at the same VED, reducing compressive yield strength. The electron backscattered diffraction analysis showed no significant differences in the average grain size, phase distribution, and misorientation angle of the samples produced using CW and PWM lasers under the same VED. However, sharper grains with an aspect ratio of less than 0.3 were 7 % higher in specimens produced using the PWM laser. This study highlights the possibility of controlling the microstructure and mechanical properties in a wider range when using the PWM laser with spatially nonuniform irradiation.

Writing is challenging, especially for non-native speakers. To support English as a Second Language (ESL) writing, we propose StructFeed, which allows native speakers to annotate topic sentence and relevant keywords in texts and generate writing hints based on the principle of paragraph unity. First, we compared our crowd-based method with three naïve machine learning (ML) methods and got the best performance on the identification of topic sentence and irrelevant sentence in the article. Next, we evaluated the StructFeed system with two feedback-generation mechanisms including feedback generated by one expert and by one crowd worker. The results showed that people who received feedback by Struct- Feed got the highest improvement after revision. Copyright © 2017, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). As more and more Web applications emerging on sever end today, the Web browser on client end has become a host of a variety of applications other than just rendering static Web pages. This leads to more and more performance requirements of a Web browser, for which user experience is very important. This situation may become more urgency when on handheld devices. Some efforts like redesign a new Web browser have been made to overcome this problem. In this paper, we address this issue by optimizing the main processes of the Web browser on a state-of-the-art 64-core architecture, Godson-T, which was developed at Chinese Academy of sciences, as multi-/many-core architecture to be the mainstream processor in the upcoming years. We start a new core to process a new tab when facing up to intensive URL requests, and we use scratch-pad memory (SPM) of each core as a local buffer to store the HTML source data to be processed to reduce off-chip memory access and exploit more data locality, otherwise, we use DTA to transfer HTML data for backup. Experiments conducted on the cycle-accurate simulator show that, starting each tab process by a new core could obtain 5.7% to 50% speedup with different number of cores used to process corresponding URL requests, with onchip scratchpad memory of each core used to store the HTML data, more speedup could be achieved when number of cores increase. Also, as Data Transfer Agent (DTA) used to transfer the HTML data, the backup of HTML data can get 2X to 5X speedups according to different data amount. © 2011 IEEE.

Quality of images used in a variety of systems contributes to the success of discovering beneficial details used in different fields of computing. The quality of the image plays a vital role in increasing the success rate of image recognition and related fields. Image quality can be degraded due to distortion, imperfection during image capture, inappropriate light balancing, and exposure to name a few. Various deblurring techniques were introduced to address blurred issues, transforming an image to lesser imperfections, successfully reading and/or identifying available details on it. This study aims to identify, define, and evaluate deblurring techniques in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in the design. Significantly, the study compares various techniques that can be used to recover hidden details in the presence of image noise. The MA TLAB was used as a tool for testing and evaluating the deblurring techniques. PSNR, MSE, and computational time were used to compare each identified deblurring techniques. Based on the comparative performance results of each technique, in terms of accuracy measure, Lucy-Richardson got the highest PSNR ratio of 25.8312 that leads the best result while wiener filter got the lowest PSNR ratio of 21.3012. While, based on the MSE results, Wiener Filter got a higher rate of 0.0074;while blind deconvolution and Lucy-Richardson got the lowest value of 0.0026. And in terms of execution time, Wiener Filter performs the fastest computational time. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper discusses the design and implementation process of mobile applications used by nurses to communicate with the elderly or with people appointed to represent the elderly in using this mobile application. This mobile application is expected to help caregivers or nurses monitor the health condition of the elderly, and this mobile application has several functions that make it complete. These functions include submitting weekly reports, communicating with others via forums, and providing relevant information about the elderly and how to deal with them, including news and government regulations on elderly care. This mobile application uses case diagrams to describe business processes and class diagrams to illustrate database design. As for the implementation, android studio and MySQL database are used for database storage. This paper is limited to 9 references for literature review previous similar research by searching for publication titles with the sentences 'mobile application'+elderly+care using quotation marks and without quotation marks for the words elderly and care for all years of publication. © 2022 IEEE.
